“Chosen, Royal, and Holy.”

Jesus tells the disciples during the Last Supper that they know the way—- to God, to new life, to heaven. This astonishing resurrected life, given us in Baptism, makes us chose, royal, and holy people. We know, because of Jesus, the way to be all three.

† What mercy work will I do this week that fosters God’s loving-kindness?

† How will this mercy activity make me more the royal and worthy person I am?

† How will I be royal?

Our Mission

We, the family of St. Scholastica Catholic Parish, are dedicated Christian stewards of God’s gifts. We have been called in Baptism and through the Holy Spirit to be disciples of Jesus. We are a sacramental community,

sharing a sense of welcoming and belonging. We provide opportunities for spiritual growth and faith

formation. We are committed in both prayer and action to support and nurture each other and those in need.

A Continued Call to

Can you be here for your parish….

If you are able, please continue your generous support by dropping off or sending in your weekly donation. You can also support your parish online by following the guidelines below.

We are still here for you….

It is very difficult for your parish staff not be allowed to staff the parish office, but we will continue to be here for you. Please call if you are in need, in any way. We have a list of generous parishioners who have offered to shop or run errands.

On behalf of the staff and parishioners of St. Scholastica Parish, welcome! Although we are a large, diverse faith community, we strive to always cherish

and value the gifts of each parishioner. We invite you to find a place in our parish that nurtures and serves

you in your faith development.

Happy Mothers’ Day to all  moms !  Indeed this is a very

special day.  If it weren’t for this virus Covid 19, restaurants

would be bulging at the seams to accommodate all those

families who have taken mom out for a special

meal.  Addi onally, in years past and hopefully also today,

many mothers were delighted to receive some cute and

interes ng hand‐made gi s or drawings from their

children. Many children made these gi s during class  me

in school, while their husbands purchased a present from

reliable stores ranging anywhere from Target to Macy’s,

or they found a good deal at Amazon. However, this

year almost everything is put on hold while we try to

establish a new rou ne of how we do things because of the

restric ons placed upon our ac vi es. I don’t know if it ever

happened to you, but there is that old proverb, “All packed up and no place to go.”  During the years that I served on the general council of my religious community in Rome, I

did travel to several countries to conduct canonical

visita ons with my fellow Resurrec onists. Quite o en

I spent what seemed like a life me wai ng at airports

because the aircra  was delayed for some reason or other. I

know some of our parishioners whose work require that

they travel locally or interna onally have had similar

experiences of being delayed in one city or another.  Yet our

recent experiences over these past weeks is kind of like

packing a suitcase only to unpack it and wait for another

occasion to pack it and move on into the future. Our parish

school as well as all the other schools ranging from

elementary through graduate schools have been in a

con nual pack and unpack mode. Certain important

events in the lives of students have not taken place in the

tradi onal way.  We had hoped and s ll hope that certain

specific parochial events could take place.  In the not too

distant future we hope to celebrate such events as First

Communion and an  8th Grade Gradua on in a modified

manner.  The exact “how and when” is s ll undetermined at

this wri ng, but I will keep you informed.   Right now I want to change the topic. On Monday May 4th I received official

informa on that Bishop R. Daniel Conlon, the Bishop of the

Diocese of Joliet, had given his resigna on officially to Pope

Francis and it has been accepted. We wish him well and

pray that the Lord care for him.  I do want to share one part

of Bishop Conlon’s le er informing us of his resigna on. He

stated that:  I am very grateful to the people of this diocese, for their faith and the generosity with which they use their gi s for the sake of the Gospel. We wish him well too.

And, as I customarily do, I have one other topic to share at

this  me.  Fr. Marion Wroblewski,

C.R.,  a fellow Resurrec onist  priest, who ministered here

at St. Scholas ca Parish from late 2013 un l 2015 died on

May 3rd. I ask for your prayers for him. Fr. Marion had been

a member of the Congrega on of the Resurrec on for 62

years and a priest for 55 years.  In conclusion on this

5th Sunday of Easter maybe we could ask for the strength to

live this week by Jesus’ words from today’s gospel according

to John: Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me…”

Fr. Norb, C.R.

We are pleased that so many parishioners have already pledged a gift to the 2020 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA). Your support will allow

us to Be Kind and Merciful as, together, we do God’s work here on earth.

Every gift brings us closer to our parish’s 2020 CMAA goal of $101,300. If we raise more than our goal, 70 percent of the amount over goal will be returned to us for our needs. This is an amazing opportunity for our parish.

Please prayerfully reflect on your pledge to this year’s CMAA and make your gift today. You can return the pledge card you received in the mail from the diocese, make a gift online at jolietdioceseappeal.org or text “Donate” to (815) 205-1949 from your mobile phone.

Spiritual Communion

In this  me of uncertainty, when we are unable to leave our homes to a end Mass, we are encouraged to make and act of “spiritual communion,” where we unite ourselves to God through prayer.  It is a beau ful way to express to God our desire to be united with him when we are unable to complete that union in the recep on of Holy Communion. Countless saints incorporated this type of prayer into their

daily lives, not being sa sfied with receiving Jesus in the Eucharist once a week or even once a day.  Making an act of spiritual communion for them was an essen al part of life and drew them closer to God on a daily basis. St. Josemaria Escriva encouraged everyone to make a

spiritual communion as o en as they could, “What a source of grace there is in spiritual communion!  Prac ce it frequently and you’ll have greater presence of God and closer union with him in all your ac ons.” Padre Pio also had a habit of making a spiritual communion

throughout the day outside of the celebra on of Mass.  He desired to be always united with Jesus Christ in everything he did. Below is a tradi onal prayer of spiritual communion that

many saints have prayer over the years.  It can be prayed if you find yourself at Mass unable to receive the Eucharist, or even in the midst of your daily work, li ing up your thoughts to God. The ul mate goal of our lives should be communion with God

and an act of spiritual communion can help a person draw closer to that goal.

My Jesus,

I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love you above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen

PRAYER TO OUR LADY, HEALTH OF THE SICK DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a sign of

salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, united with Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need, and we trust that you will provide for those needs so

that, as at Cana of Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this moment of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us. He who took our suffering upon Himself, and burdened Himself with our sorrows to bring us,

through the Cross, to the joy of Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas—we who are put to the test

—and deliver us from every danger. O glorious and blessed Virgin.
