Infrastructure Development Updates

Scholasticans continue to go outside the bounds of the school’s walls to explore the world and learn through real-life experiences. We are proud that we are able to organize so many outings, exchange programs and trips for our students and hope to continue to do so in the future. Here is a glimpse into the events and experiences that our students indulged in this past term…

American Bangladeshi Youth Leadership Exchange Program

On a foggy December morning, 36 students and educators arrived in Bangladesh to meet their counterparts for what would be a life-changing experience for all. Funded by the US State Department’s Bureau of Educational Affairs and World Savvy, a partnership was formed by World Savvy (US based organization), SPEED Youth, and Scholastica to implement a four-week cultural exchange program in Bangladesh, focused around climate change. This program would also provide the students with a comprehensive survey into leadership, civic activism, and service learning.

Over this intense four-week exchange, American and Scholastica’s young leaders participated and created environments of learning and thoughtful dialogue. As a part of the program, the participants were sent to the far reaches of Bangladesh to discover and better understand some of the issues facing our world around

climate change. The program worked with local organizations such as CARE, IPAC, YPSA, K&K Tea, and JAAGO Foundation to create meaningful service projects that engaged students in manual labor and discussions with the local communities in Srimongol, Panchagar, Sirajganj, and Chittagong. A four-night journey into the Sundarbans opened the eyes of many; they witnessed a beautiful part of this country with immense biodiversity that plays such a key role in protecting the country from natural disasters. The program ended in Dhaka with workshops at Grameen Shakti, the Yunus Center, and UNDP that gave the students a brief view of the immense efforts that are being implemented to solve the problems of poverty and climate change.

After almost four weeks in Bangladesh, the program ended at the STM Hall of Senior Section Uttara in Scholastica with a wonderful closing ceremony where the US Ambassador, His Excellency Dan Mozena, spoke about the importance of building bridges of understanding. The participants on the last day of the program had become different people. ABYLEP is a shining example of global citizenship and the power of cross-cultural exchanges.
