Systems In Living Things
Animal Cells
Parts of a Cell• Organelles-• Organelles are the structures in every living
cell that perform the specialized functions for living.
• A typical animal cell. Within the cytoplasm, the major organelles and cellular structures include: (1) nucleolus (2) nucleus (3) ribosome (4) vesicle (5) rough endoplasmic reticulum (6) Golgi apparatus (7) cytoskeleton (8) smooth endoplasmic reticulum (9) mitochondria (10) vacuole (11) cytosol (12) lysosome (13) centriole
Cell Membrane• The Cell
membrane is the covering that holds the cell together and regulates materials that pass in and out.
Nucleus
• The nucleus of the cell contains its genetic information, DNA. It may be considered the “brain” of the cell.
Cytoplasm
• The cell is filled with fluid called Cytoplasm. It holds the Organelles and contains dissolved minerals the cell needs.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
• The Endoplasmic Reticulum is a complex network that plays a role in producing and transporting cell products.
Golgi Apparatus• The Golgi
Apparatus is a system of sacks that sort, package, and transport products inside the cell or discard them outside.
Lysosomes• Lysosomes are
where food particles are digested.
Mitochondria• Mitochondria are
little power plants where cellular respiration takes place to release energy stored in foods. The energy that keeps life going.
