We’ve merged the two operations and opened up a shiny new facility near New Braunfels, Texas, just off of I-35. It’s not just shiny and new, though. This is one of the largest and most modern distribution centers in the country. And you’re invited to come and tour all 640,000 square feet.

Top-of-the-Line Test KitchensIs it true that too many cooks spoil the broth? Not here. We say the more the merrier. We’re so proud of our new demonstration kitchens at Sysco Central Texas we cordially invite chefs, brokers, suppliers and culinary fans of all ages to come take a peek, pull out a pan and let the preparations begin.

We’ve invested in technology that allows those outside of the kitchen to look, listen and learn, too. High-definition video can be streamed from the kitchen to audiences in one or more adjacent training rooms. Demonstrations and presentations may be watched by as many as 300 guests seated in comfortable accommodations nearby.

Culinary ConsultationsWithout the expertise to consult with customers about their culinary needs, where would we be? This function is the backbone of our operations. Corporate Chef Don Carr works directly with customers, and he likes it that way. Sometimes he’s helping develop new menu concepts, or offering ideas to cross utilize products they are already using. WarehouseluPe uresti. Lupe has been with Sysco for 28 years. When it comes to warehouse operations there aren’t too many jobs he hasn’t done. He’s responsible for receiving a significant amount of inventory on a daily basis. Our new and increased dock space has helped Lupe and other receivers complete their assignments more efficiently and faster than ever.

Because of our leading position within the foodservice industry, we are able to influence the sustainability of the entire food chain, from the grower to the end user.

agricultural Practices – We support local suppliers and producers more than anyone else around. There’s one thing we insist upon. They must produce their products efficiently and preserve an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of our natural resources. Our experience is that suppliers and producers are proud to partner with us.

environmental impact: Hydrogen and More – We’re strong-minded about finding solutions to environmentally sensitive issues in every area of our business. Today, hydrogen cells power our forklifts and other moving equipment in our warehouse. Refilling a vehicle with hydrogen takes about a minute, while recharging an electric battery took eight to ten hours. We recycle our condensation water from evaporators into a 40,000-gallon retention tank. It is then used to cool our building. Super-sized ceiling fans in the warehouse keep it cool in the summer and reduce air conditioning usage. An external thermal material on the roof helps keep a constant temperature inside.

Go Green initiatives – We take our company-wide initiative to go and stay green seriously. The new distribution center was built with efficiency and environmental awareness in mind. We have energy saving refrigeration systems in place. Occupancy sensors light the entire building. We even made a conscious effort to install native grasses and trees at our new facilities to preserve natural resources.

recyclability – We understand the need to respect and preserve our limited, natural resources. That’s why all of the paper products and cutlery we supply to restaurants and institutions are 100 percent recyclable. It’s about being good stewards and passing that value on. We use eco-friendly cleaning products and sustainable alternatives such as reusable pallets. We recycle all of our cardboard, office paper and shrink wrap.

Double-Sided Menus – Menus will still showcase widely indulgent options, but will be balanced with healthier “better for you” choices.
