In this fast changing world everyone is getting busy dayby day. He has less time available for doing other things besides his
work. He wants all this available to him just by a click. We can make
use of computer and internet to solve these problems and provide a
quick service to the customer. This website will facilitate the
customer to get all the details regarding the various paint products
various companies. Now the customer will get all the desired
information about the paint products at their finger tips.

The existing paint shop POPULAR PAINTS is totally manually
operated. All the work done by the organization regarding sale and
stock maintenance is manually done. The customer comes to theshop takes information about various paint companies ,their
products , their benefits ,etc. then he/she compares these products
according to his budget and requirements.
After he finalizes the product , the next step is to choose the
color. He then looks at the various colors available through the
shade cards. After the selection process is over , he/she orders thedesired color and quantity. The shopkeeper prepares the chosen
color and delivers it to the customer.
From the shopkeeper side, when a customer order a certain
product , he has to search the various register that he maintains for
stock keeping to see whether the requested product is available or
not. This is a tedious task, takes a lot of time and creates a bad
impression in the mind of customer.
In the market very few web application are there that give
information about the paint product to the customer and that
websites are mostly of paint companies such as asianpaints.com
nerolacpaints.com and various other paint companies. They just
inform you about their products but will not sell them. To purchase
these products you have to visit a paint shop.

REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS:
Requirement analysis is usually the first phase of large-scale
software development project. It is undertaken after a feasibility
study has been performed to define the precise costs and benefits of
a software system. The purpose of this phase is to identify and
document the exact requirements for the system. The customer, the
developer, a marketing organization of any combination of the three
may perform such study.
The complete understanding of software requirements is
essential to the success of a software development effort. The
requirements analysis task is a process of discovery, refinement
modeling and specification. The software scope, initially established
by the system engineer and refined during software project planning
is refined in detail. Modular of the required data, information and
control flow, and operational behavior are created. Alternative
solution are analyzed and allocated to various software elements.

Both developer and customer take an active role in
requirements analysis and specification. The customer attempts to
reformulate a sometimes-nebulous concept of software function and
performance into concrete detail. The developer acts as interrogator
consultant and problem solver.
Requirements analysis is a software engineering task that
bridges the gap between system level software allocation and
software design.
Analysis is a bridge between system engineering and software
design.
Requirement analysis enable the system engineer to specify
software function and performance indicates softwares interface
with other system elements and establish constraints that software
must meet.
Software requirements analysis may be divided into five areas ofeffort: -
(I) Specifications
(ii) Algorithm Design
(iii) Coding
(iv) Verification and Testing
(v) Maintenance
Initially, the analyst studies the system specification and the
software project plan. Problem evaluation and solution synthesis is
the next major area of effort for analysis. Upon evaluating current
problems and desired information (input and output the analyst
begins to synthesize one or more solutions).SUBHESH CHANDRA SAHU 0700115051

14/42
During the evaluation and solution synthesis activity, the
analyst creates models of the system in an effort to better during
the evaluation and solution synthesis activity, the analyst creates
models of the system in an effort to better understand data and
control flow, functional processing and behavioral operation, and
information content. The model serves as a foundation for softwaredesign and as the basis for the creation of a specification for the
software.
The requirement analysis for this web based application is that
client wants every information about the organization, the variouspaint companies and their product available in the shop should be
accessible by the customer online. The requirements of the client
are as follows:-
1)The client wants to computerize the working and sale of
products.
2) It wants its stock keeping to be computerized and free from
data redundancy.
3)All the information about the products to be available to the
customer online
4) The customer can purchase the products online.
5) Should assist customer while choosing among various available
paint products online.

6)The application should display out of stock products so that
order can be prepared.
7) The customer can pay the bill online.
FEASIBLITY STUDY:
A feasibility study is carried out to select the best system that
meets performance requirements.
Before getting started on the new system it was important to
determine the feasibility involved in the developed system so that
the new system development could be developed. Feasibility is the
determination of whether or not a project is not worth doing. The
project followed in making this determination is called a feasibility
study. This type of study determines if a project can and should Be
Taken. Once it has been determined that project is feasible, the

analyst can go ahead and then prepare the project specification
which finalizes project requirements.
Generally, feasibility studies are undertaken within tight time
constraints and normally culminate in a written and feasibility
report.
The developed system is started after considering the main three
types of feasibilities which are discussed below:-
1)-Technical feasibility
2)-Operational feasibility
3)-Economic feasibility
1)-Technical Feasibility:-
This is concerned with specifying equipment and software that will
successfully satisfy the user requirement.
As we know the technical feasibility is concerned with specifying
equipment and software that will successfully satisfy the user
requirement. The technical needs of the system may very
considerably, but might include:
The facility to produce outputs in a given time.
Response time under certain conditions. Ability to process a certain volume of transaction at a particular
speed.
Facility to communicate data to distinct location.
In examination technical feasibility, configuration of the system is
given more importance than the actual make of hardware. The
configuration should give the complete picture about the systems
requirements: How many workstations are required, how these units

-
8/8/2019 Synopsis of Popular Paints
17/42
are interconnected so that they could operate and communicate
smoothly.
2)-Economic Feasibility:-
Economic analysis is the most frequently used technique for
evaluating the effectiveness of a proposed system. More commonly
known as cost/benefits analysis the procedure is to determine the
benefits and savings that are expected from a purposed system and
compare with costs. If benefits out weigh cost, a decision is taken todesign and implement the system otherwise further justification or
alternative in the proposed system will have to be made if it is to
have a chance of being approved. This is an on going effort that
improves in accuracy at each phase of the system life cycle. The
analysis part also clears the doubt of economic problems could be
possible in developing the system.
3)-Operational Feasibility:-
It is mainly related to human organizational and political
aspects. The points to be considered are:
What changes will be brought with the system?
What organizational structures are disturbed?
What new skills will be required? Do the existing staff
members have these skills? If not, can be trained in due
course of time.
Proposed projects are beneficial only if they can be
turned into information system that will meet the

-

18/42
operating requirements of the organization. This test of
feasibility asks if the system will work when it developed
and installed. Are there major barriers to implementation?
Issue that appears to be quite minor at the early stage can grow
into major problem after implementation. Therefore, it is always
advisable to consider operational aspects carefully. The system is
developed in keeping mind that it should be user friendly and easy
to operate hence the system is operational feasible.
This is basically a business web based application software mostlyfeasible for customers and paint shopkeeper. A very few software
are available which sell the paint products online and offer the
services included in this software.
This project is technically feasible as the software required are
freeware and can be easily downloaded from internet. For
design and development of the system several s/w products
have been accommodated such as mysql, php, javascript etc. This technology has enough efficiency in producing the system.
Economically also this is feasible as it can be very useful for the
organization as it would help to increase the business of the
organization and offer various new services and facilities to thecustomer. It would help the organization to expand their
business by adding new customers who dont have enough
time to visit the shop to buy paints.
This software is also operationally feasible as it is very userfriendly. It can be operated by any person who has a little
knowledge about computer. No changes are required to be

made in the organization to implement the system. The
database will be centralized. The administrator can update the
database from anywhere. Considering all these factors we can
conclude that all the users and end users will be satisfied by
the system.

In this software project the spiral modal is used for
development. The spiral model, combines the iterative nature of
prototyping with the controlled and systematic aspects of the
waterfall model, there in providing the potential for rapid
development of incremental versions of the software. In this
model the software is developed in a series of incremental
releases with the early stages being either paper models or
prototypes. Later iterations become increasingly more complete
versions of the product.
The model is divided into a number of task regions. These
regions are:
1. The customer communication task to establish
effective communication between developer and customer.
2. The planning task to define resources, time lines and
other project related information.
SUBHESH CHANDRA SAHU 0700115051
-
8/8/2019 Synopsis of Popular Paints
25/42
3. The risk analysis task to assess both technical and
management risks.
4. The engineering task to build one or more
representations of the application.
5. The construction and release task to construct, test,
install and provide user support (e.g., documentation and training).
6. The customer evaluation task to obtain customer
feedback based on the evaluation of the software representation
created during the engineering stage and implemented during the
install stage.
The evolutionary process begins at the centre position and
moves in a clockwise direction. Each traversal of the spiral typically
results in a deliverable. For example, the first and second spiral
traversals may result in the production of a product specification and
a prototype, respectively. Subsequent traversals may then produce
more sophisticated versions of the software.
An important distinction between the spiral model and other
software models is the explicit consideration of risk. There are no
fixed phases such as specification or design phases in the model and
it encompasses other process models. For example, prototyping
may be used in one spiral to resolve requirement uncertainties and
hence reduce risks. This may then be followed by a conventionalwaterfall development.
Each of the regions is populated by a set of work tasks called a
task set that are adapted to characteristics of the project to be
undertaken. For small projects the number of tasks and their
formality is low. Conversely, for large projects the reverse is true.
Advantages of the Spiral Model
SUBHESH CHANDRA SAHU 0700115051
-
8/8/2019 Synopsis of Popular Paints
26/42
The spiral model is a realistic approach to the
development of large-scale software products because the software
evolves as the process progresses. In addition, the developer and
the client better understand and react to risks at each evolutionary
level.
The model uses prototyping as a risk reduction
mechanism and allows for the development of prototypes at any
stage of the evolutionary development.
It maintains a systematic stepwise approach, like the
classic life cycle model, but incorporates it into an iterative
framework that more reflect the real world.
If employed correctly, this model should reduce risks
before they become problematic, as consideration of technical risks
are considered at all stages.
