SYNOPSIS
TITLE:
An analysis and to determine the growth of KSRTC state transport after implementing AWATAR.
THE BACKGROUND:
Internet has changed the way we look at life and business in particular. From emails to chats to
ecommerce, Internet has changed the way business is conducted around the world. Probably, this
has something to do with the changing times. Among the many other things, standing in a queue
to pay bills or buy travel tickets is the most grueling, especially in India as the serpentine line of
people never seems to end. Online ticket reservations seem to be answer.
It allows people to book train, flight and bus tickets via Internet. From the cool confines of their
homes and offices people can now just logon to the respective website, check the various train,
flight and bus options available and opt for the best in terms of fare and service.
In India, while flights and trains have started these services sometime back, bus service providers
are relatively the new entrants. Though private bus operators have started online bookings, state
transport service providers need to upgrade their systems. While some state transports in
association with the respective tourism departments have adopted the online ticket booking
strategy a while ago, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has shown the
way to go alone. The Corporation has developed and implemented online software called
“AWATAR”, short for Any Where, Any Time Reservation.
The Problem:
OBJECTIVES
The main objective of this project is to assist the public in gaining an easier and faster way of reservation. One can book tickets by paying online not only from anywhere in the state but also the globe. With this system in place the Corporation expects its passenger load to increase by 15 percent, while the customers find the methodology less demanding. And all this without the help of travel agents.
