Case Study – Kizomba,NigeriaFollowing itssuccess with the$3.4 billionKizomba A project,in Nigeria – thelargest deepwateroil development offthe West Africancoast – Synectics was awarded the 2ndstage project.

For Kizomba B, Exxon Mobil/HHIrequired total coverage of criticalprocess areas, to ensure safe operationof the floating production, storage andoffloading (FPSO) facility, includingflares. The system is monitored 24hours a day by Exxon staff, from apurpose built system control areaaboard the FPSO and from the SWHP.

At a total cost of $335,000, the systemincludes 18 fully-functional COEXFECH3 camera stations. Robust,versatile and cost-effective, the FECHcamera head is ideal for most types ofhazardous environment.

All cameras feature our unique FEWS2‘camera wash’ system – ensuringperfect camera visibility at all times,under any conditions, at the touch of abutton. Future expansion plans, alreadyin progress, include the Kizomba CFPSOs (Saxi Batuque and Mondo), forwhich Synectics has been awarded theCCTV surveillance contracts.

Case Study – Sarawak,MalaysiaHaving secured the contract fromEmerson, Synectics has completed ahigh-tech Ex CCTV system for Shellaboard their Sarawak oil platform,situated off the Malaysian coast.

Synectics liaised closely with theoperators of the Shell Sarawakplatform, to realise the ultimate systemspecification for their requirements.Camera positions were chosen tocomprehensively cover all operationaldecks and the busy landing area -providing constant health and safetymonitoring in these sensitive areas.

At a total cost of $400K, the installationincludes Synectics industry standardCOEX EExd certified FECH camerastations, specifically developed for thistype of hazardous area application.

The camerahousings areequipped withEExd certified,FEPT hazardousarea pan & tiltunits. The FECHcamera head isideal for surveying and monitoringthe production processes at theSarawak oil platform and is proven in installations around the world,including petrochemical plants,offshore platforms and other marineenvironments.

Case Study – BasinCliff Head, Australia

At a total cost of$300k, Roc OilawardedSynectics thecontract tosupply sevenCOEX FECHcamera stations,

covering all the key operationalsectors, as well as the landing area ofthe facility – the first to be developedin the Western Australia Basin CliffHead, off the coast of Dongara.

Following a review, a comprehensiveCCTV system was also considered tobe the most effective approach forthe remote monitoring of theunmanned platforms at the site.

The communications strategy,preferred by many of today’s oil andgas installations, involves using asingle network to interconnect allequipment – voice, data, LAN andvideo. From the commencement ofthe project, Synectics liaisedextensively with consultants WorleyParsons and Roc Oil management toprovide a production monitoring andsecurity tool in one installation, thateffectively protects all Roc Oil’sinvestments in the area.

Case Study –Daewoo LNG Carriers

Financed and operated by theJapanese J5 consortium of MOL,NYK, K Line, Iino Kaiun and Mitsui,Synectics was awarded the contractto supply specialist COEX Ex andMarine CCTV systems to five210,000 CBM LNG carriers, byDaewoo Shipbuilding and MarineEngineering.

The five ships will carry Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) fromthe Ras Gas III Project (one of the world's largest gasfields) in Qatar to berths at South Hook and the Isle ofGrain, in the UK. The new ship systems mean Ras Laffanproduct will be monitored by Synectics CCTV and controlsystems from production and transportation, through toits final destination via existing and new installations.

Specifically developed to operate in this type of marine

environment, the installation includes industry standard,

EExd certified COEX FECH Camera stations to monitor

the deck areas of each ship, plus COEX FECH thermal

cameras to locate personnel or intruders on the ship's

deck and as a navigational aid – allowing the bridge to

view other vessels, and even icebergs through thick

smoke and fog, day or night.

Our Marine cameras will also be employed to provide

operators with an unparalleled view of both port and

starboard sides – combining thermal imaging for night

and adverse conditions, with high-performance CCD

camera imaging for ultra-clear, daylight surveillance.

Synectics will also supply AV monitoring equipment to

each ships’ engine room, allowing staff to detect and

resolve any issues, quickly – minimising the resulting

downtime for these high-cost vessels.

Developed and manufactured in the UKfrom high grade 316L stainless steel, ourrigid and robust Marine camera stationscan be tailored for all types of shipping,from Oil tankers and LPG/LNG carriers toCargo and Container vessels, to Cruiseships and Car ferries.

Marine ApplicationsCOEX camera stations are relied upon toensure the safety and security of ships’crews and port personnel across the globe,controlled centrally from reliable rackmounted control systems.

Case Study –Tesma Oil Tankers

Having wonthe contract tosupply a totalof six QatarPetroleum andExxonMobilowned

vessels, with its COEX camera stations,Synectics has now completed systemsaboard two of the oil tankers, navigatingthe Americas and Asia regions.

The vessels will be operated by Tesma,an alliance network of ship managementcompanies which services 80 vessels –with full technical management –deploying over 1,800 seafarers, on morethan 100 vessels, worldwide. Each of thetwo completed vessels, Samco Americaand Samco Asia, has been equippedwith COEX’s unique MEPC Drome CCTVcameras, covering the main deck areas,and both the starboard and port sides.Images of the deck area are constantlymonitored to ensure the health & safetyof the crew, and are used to assist thecaptain in manoeuvring the vesselduring docking procedures

Case Study – HyundaiContainer Vessels Synectics has now delivered CCTVsystems for four new 8,200 TEUcontainer vessels, built by HyundaiHeavy Industries.

The 2 systems,for YM Unity andYM Utmost, wereinstalled andcommissionedby a local teamof Synecticsengineers, priorto Unity’s maidenvoyage. The newships will allowYang Ming andits CYKH alliance partners to form acomprehensive service network, linkingAsia with the Mediterranean andNorthern Europe.

The U-type vessels have beendesigned in accordance with YangMing’s strict environmental protectionpolicy, and all four have been installed

with the latest, advancedenvironmentalprotection equipment.

Case Study – BPSynectics continues its long-

term technical partnershipwith BP, at the Easingtonand Dimlington refineries.

Since taking responsibility forsecuring the sites in 2004, Synectics has installed

new, leading-edge camera switching matricesand digital recording facilities, and provided andinstalled additional perimeter cameras.

Synectics has also recently completed acomprehensive installation to secure the sensitive

Dimlington storage area, accompanied by anincrease in digital recording capacity.

Case Study –Powergen CHP

Owned byPowerGen CHP,and operated byConocoPhilips, ICHPis a world-class,flagship electricitygenerating station.Opened in

November 2004, it is one of the largest,cleanest and most efficient powerstations of its type in Europe. Costing£350m to build and utilising 500construction workers, the completedplant is operated by a staff of only 40people. CHP is as technically innovativeas it is environmentally friendly, andcontinues a long tradition of SynecticsIndustrial Systems’ involvement withthe Humber Bank Refineries andassociated Industries. Synectics hassupplied this prestigious plant with theirentire turnkey CCTV surveillancesolution, including multiple, strategicallylocated cameras, in hazardous areas,plus digital recording for viewing andcontrol at multiple locations.

Case Study –Scottish and SouthernElectricityAwarded the contract to supply theAldbrough Gas Storage Project, witha bespoke CCTV surveillancesystem, by the facilities maincontractor AMEC, Synectics will becreating a bespoke software controlsystem, whilst supplying a multiplecamera system to monitor the criticalplant processes – assuring Health &Safety standards are maintainedthroughout the site.

The specially designed system will belinked to the process alarm network,and will automatically stream video tothe Aldbrough and Atwick controlrooms, from any incident’s nearestcamera – allowing the Scottish andSouthern Electricity plc managementteam to make aquick evaluationand provide ameasuredresponse. TheCCTV cameraimages will alsobe archived, viathe latest digitalhard disk recording system in eachcontrol room.

When completed, the Aldbrough GasStorage project will be connected tothe National Transmission Networkand store its gas in naturally formedunderground caverns, for re-exportback into the national grid.
