HE WAS INVOLVED DIRECTLY IN MAJORDEVELOPMENTS INCLUDING THE 1997-98 ASIANECONOMIC CRISIS AND THE DEMOCRATIZATION ANDDECENTRALIZATION OF INDONESIA IN ITS WAKE.
