“Missionary Disciples in the Vineyard of the Lord”

Sunday, October 1, 2017 Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are “disciples” and “missionaries”, but rather that we are always “missionary disciples”. (Evangelii Gaudium, no. 120)

Throughout our Diocese on this Sunday, we are celebrating “Commissioning Sunday”. Our faith community is nurtured and grows through catechesis. Flowing from the Bishop’s ministry as teacher, catechesis is the process of “echoing the Gospel”, the passing on of the essentials of our faith. Catechesis is a whole parish project and a life-long work. Every baptised person has a responsibility to seek catechesis and a place in helping provide catechesis for others in the community. Today we focus on those people in our parish community who are involved in catechesis in a special way.

CATECHETICAL CORRESPONDENCE COURSES Our Dioceses is organizing correspondence courses for the children who are not able to attend formation at the church or school or their parents desire a formation that provides even more knowledge about the faith and church. Correspondence courses are recommended if you have a limited time schedule for your child. Programs are available for children from Kindergarten through to High School not currently receiving religious instruction. Preparation for First Communion and Confirmation for children not in Catholic Schools are also available. Families work through the programs at home. Contact the parish office for more information and for registration forms.

Children’s Liturgy I would like to thank Diana Berardi and Jessica Poos for taking the responsibility for the Children’s Liturgy this year. We will continue the ministry for children: on every first Sunday, there will be children’s liturgy and on other Sundays there might be another liturgy or special homily for children. We will resume the liturgy on Sunday October 1st at 11:00 am. Children need to attend 11:00 Holy Mass. At the beginning of the Mass the priest will send them out with their leaders to talk about faith. They come back for the offertory procession. We invite all children age 4 and older. Their parents or siblings can accompany them if they wish. The children’s Liturgy can be cancelled during school holidays or on other occasions. Please follow our website for more details and resources. /Fr. Luke, Your Pastor/
