“He Never Said A Mumbalin’ Word” Larson ... Chamber ChoirThey crucified my Lord, and he never said a mumbalin’ word; they crucified my Lord, and he never said a mumbalin’ word. Not a word, not a word, not a word. They nailed him to a tree, and he never said a mumbalin’ word; they nailed him to a tree, they pierced him in the side, and he never said a mumbalin’ word; they pierced him in the side, the blood came trickalin’ down, and he never said a mumbalin’ word; the blood came trickalin’ down, he bowed his head and died, and he never said a mumbalin’ word; he bowed his head and died, and he never said a mumbalin’ word.

SCRIPTURE Matthew 26:57-64 ... Pamela Ritchie Levitt

Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, in whose house the scribes and the elders had gathered. But Peter was fol-lowing him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest; and go-ing inside, he sat with the guards in order to see how this would end. Now the chief priests and the whole council were looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they might put him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’” The high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer? What is it that they testify against you?” But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I put you under oath before the living God, tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, From now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

When we want to rejoice, but our spirits feel sullied by our bent to selfishness, forgive us. When our hearts are willing, but our minds are confused by the world in which we live, forgive us. When our souls are thirsty, but we drink the water that so easily turns bitter, forgive us. May we seek your face in a world that passes you by; may we hear your voice in a world inwardly focused on its own voice; may we know your compassionate mercy and share it on our journey this and every day.

We know that young children would sometimes rather stay with their parents, and that’s perfectly fine too. We also have a TV set up in our second floor Reception Room with room for restless legs to run around and comfortable sofas for you to sit on with your crying/nursing/tired little ones while you listen to the sermon and watch the service via livestream. Please speak with one of the ushers for more information.

Please join us for coffee at 10:15 a.m. in the Allan Beattie Room.

Handel’s Messiah Concert & lecture series

You know it as a great Christmas tradition, or the Hallelujah Chorus sung on Easter Sunday, but there is so much more to Handel’s well-known oratorio.

During Lent, we will study Part 2 of Messiah focusing on the Passion of Christ.

Each session includes an exploration of the theology Handel presents through the lyrics, and a demonstration of how the music highlights this theology.

Sundays, March 17 & 24 – 2:00 PM lecture/recital format

Sunday, April 7 – 4:00 pm Messiah Part 2

with chamber orchestra
