Neighbourhood Action Group Meetings (NAG): 16th July at 10.30am
Beansheaf Centre.
I hope you are enjoying the warmer weather. Please find the recent press release from the Superintendent for the West Berkshire LPA, in relation to crime figures.
Crime continues to fall in West Berkshire The local police area has seen a 3.3% reduction in crime this year – 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2015 - compared to the same period last year, resulting in 340 fewer victims. There have been some significant reductions in various categories of the serious crimes which matter most to the public. Burglaries in a dwelling have fallen by 11.4%, from 271 offences to 240. Burglaries non-dwelling, which includes sheds and other out buildings, has fallen by 7%, from 743 to 691offences. Vehicle crime has also fallen across West Berkshire with 158 fewer thefts from vehicles and a 21.1% drop in theft of vehicles. There is also good news in relation to victim based crime overall which has fallen by 4.7%. Robbery is down by 11.8% which includes robbery of business property which is down by 40%. Although rape has increased by 40%, over one quarter of the reports concern crimes that happened before April 2014, reflecting victims increasing confidence in the police’s ability to investigate these crimes and bring offenders to justice. Supt Jim Weems, Local Police Commander for West Berkshire, said: “These encouraging figures demonstrate the commitment of police, partners and the community working to achieve a common aim of making our area a safer place to live and work. “However, there is no room for complacency and it means we must work even harder in this coming year to improve upon any positive outcomes and to tackle any area that could be improved upon.” To assist local residents we are offering home security visits. This is an opportunity to have a member of the Neighbourhood Policing Team visit your address to give advice on improving home security. Please call 101 to make contact with a member of the team. NEIGHBOURHOOD WARDENS During April the Neighbourhood Wardens were asked, by the Beansheaf Pre-School, to clean the surface of their outdoor play area in Linear Park. A pressure washer and stiff brushes were used to clear away the moss and dirt. Also this month your Neighbourhood Wardens have done specific work in Cow Lane and at Holymead.

FRIENDS OF LINEAR PARK 21 World War 1 memorial trees have been planted
with 20 of them forming an avenue between Pooh Bridge and the Jubilee Wood and one in the centre of the field where the poppies grew last year and, hopefully, will again this year. Each tree represents one of the people who died in the conflict that came from this area. The trees are starting to bud and will provide a lasting tribute to their memory.
A survey of water vole activity was undertaken in March and it is pleasing to report there were multiple signs of water vole activity. Keep your eyes peeled and if you do see any, please let us know either via the Parish Office or the e-mail below.
Another two benches, in memory of local residents, have been installed in the park, one on the opposite side of the field to the Beansheaf Centre and one outside the Beansheaf Centre. Made from recycled materials they have a wood like appearance and are proving very popular. If you would like to sponsor a bench please get in touch.
Keep watching the last remaining water pump on the A4 which we will be repainting to match the one in the Sensory Garden.
Keep your eyes on the noticeboards for upcoming events and get in touch if you have anything to
tell us - [email protected]
PARISH COUNCILLOR VACANCIES Following the
elections on 7th May 2015, we currently have 10 Parish Councillors, (listed
to the left). A formal election was not necessary as we, at present, have 5
vacancies.

Therefore, if you are community minded and interested in maintaining local services, and trying to improve the quality of life in the Parish you may be interested in applying to become a Councillor.
