Heritage CenterBoys Artic Adventure

Imagine being on a trip to the polar region of the earth In this wonderful place of snow and ice you will first need to build an igloo to be safe and warm. When your home is complete then you need to go hunting for your own food. Get your trail mix together to eat while out in the snow hunting. You will need to track an animal so it is necessary to know animal prints to find some supper. Having taken your trusty Huskies with you on your trip you return home to care for them and find you need to be sure the knots on your ropes are secure before eating supper and going to bed.

Each of the above skills were taught to the boys, tom boys and men while at the artic Adventure. Adding a talk about staying safety not just in the woods but also at home, Naturalist Franklin Klock taught us what to take and how to keep safe.

The Snow Princess Tea

The little princesses gather around Snow Fairy to hear the story of the Snow Princess Tea. Mom & Grandma watch and listen as well. Each princess made their own magic wand, neckless and tiara. All enjoyed the tea, hot chocolate and tea sandwiches made just for them.

http://wnep.com/2015/06/01/casino-money-helps-community-center/#ooid=NxNzhndTpnuPsfzgREkgd_y7rtS56fT8 Casino Money Helps Community Center Posted 5:51 pm, June 1, 2015, by Jackie De Tore SUMMIT HILL — A community center in Carbon County is getting a little help. After years of trying, the Summit Hill Heritage Center is finally getting a grant from casino money raised in Monroe County. “This is tremendous, our board is like on cloud nine,” said the chairperson of the Summit Hill Heritage Center Debra Ranck. For the past three years, Ranck has been applying for grant money for the heritage center. This year, the chairperson of the organization got the news she’s been waiting for: a $100,000 from casino money generated in Monroe county. The center has been around since 2009 with a food pantry that helps hundreds of people in the Summit Hill area. “That’s almost our whole basement and that’s the reason we exist,” said Ranck. One of the biggest problems with this more than 100-year-old building is the leaking roof, so the plan for most of the grant money is to replace it. Ranck said, “We’ve done some patching here and there, but it has not been enough.” Once the roof is fixed, the center wants to update the heating system. The boiler is more than a century old and has broken down quite a few times. Lou Albertini has been fixing the boiler for years. “Because they’re nice people, so we don’t always send them a bill for everything. They’re trying to do something for the community.” Right now, the center’s main focus is the food pantry, but there are also educational classes and events. With the new cash and improvements, the center hopes get even more people in the doors. “Trying to bring in different affairs and trying to build the community heritage up here,” said Albertini. The heritage center hopes to get the grant money later this summer. 40.824812 -75.871031
