WHERE KIDS GROW AND SHINE!
At the Y, we believe that all kids have amazing potential. The values and skills learned early are vital
building blocks for life, and young people deserve an opportunity to discover who they are and what they
can achieve. We are committed to the healthy development of kids through a broad range of activities and
experiences that teach positive values, build self-confidence, and cultivate lifelong friendships, all while
instilling the Y’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

STRENGTH IN COMMUNITY The Y believes that everyone deserves a chance to succeed - no matter their background or

us. That is why our cause is strengthening community through youth development, healthy
living and social responsibility.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
All kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. Our Summer Camp
programs are open to all, regardless of inability to pay. Stop by the front desk today to find out more
about how financial assistance can make camp a reality for you!
CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE
The YMCA of Southern Nevada does accept Child Care Assistance (formerly known as EOB) payments for
Summer Camp.
CAMPER NUTRITION
Snack, lunch and loads of water are a part of your camper’s day. A healthy mid-morning
and late-afternoon snack fuels the body before physical activity that follows. A packed
lunch full of healthy options goes great with the Y’s nutrition standards. *Some Y’s
provide a free lunch as part of the Summer Food Service Program. Your camper is not
obligated to eat this lunch however; it’s healthy and saves busy parents time and money.
Please send a reusable water bottle so we can stay hydrated in the summer heat.
ELEMENTS OF CAMP
At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to
make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and
thrive. In order to accomplish this in our summer programs, each camp offering fits into one of the
following focus areas:
1. Character Development: Teaching the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and
responsibility through teamwork, practice, and determination.
2. Leadership &Volunteerism: Igniting a desire within young leaders to make a difference in the world
around them through service.
3. Sports & Play: Promoting fun activities that build athletic, social and interpersonal skills.
4. Education & Literacy: Developing young minds through history, science and everything in between,
all while encouraging personal growth and a positive self image.
5. Arts & Humanities: Engaging youth in activities that foster creativity, character development and
an appreciation for other cultures.
6. Offsite Exploration: Expanding kids’ knowledge of the world around them through travel and new
experiences.

RESIDENCE CAMP
CAMP WHITTLE – BIG BEAR, CALIFORNIA
JUNE 28-JULY 5
AGES: 8-14
FEE: $599
Kids today need the traditional camp experience more than ever. Every day brings something new, exciting and challenging: the
power of a positive mentor, the confidence that comes from trying…then succeeding, and healthy, long lasting friendships.
Located four hours from Las Vegas and just two miles from Big Bear Lake in California, campers enjoy the beautiful surroundings
of the forest, lake and meadow as they participate in activities and adventure galore!
For the past seven summers, the YMCA of Southern Nevada has had the opportunity and responsibility to provide a unique
outdoor camp experience for Las Vegas youth. During this exciting week, individual goals are achieved, confidence is built, and
lifelong friendships are developed.
GROW IN THE FOUR YMCA CORE VALUES OF
CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT AND
RESPONSIBILITY. Campers will be faced with
challenges throughout the week that will give them
the opportunity to display the values that are the
heartbeat of our organization.
GROW IN THE ABILITY TO MAKE SOUND,
INDEPENDENT DECISIONS. For many campers, this
will be their first time away from home. During the
week stay at Camp Whittle, participants will be
challenged to make the best decisions about their
schedule, their daily responsibilities and nutrition.
CREATE LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS. Camp Whittle
presents a wonderful opportunity to create new
friendships that can last a lifetime. Camp staff are
intentional in initiating friendship building activities
throughout the week.
GAIN AN APPRECIATION FOR NATURE AND THE
GREAT OUTDOORS. At Camp Whittle, campers will
live surrounded by the great outdoors for an entire
week. During this time, campers will participate in
activities such as: nature walks, hiking, bike riding,
horseback riding, a petting zoo and star gazing.
