If your camper (aged 5 – 12) is registered in two half-day camps (one running in the morning, one running in the afternoon) during the same week, we can, for a registration fee of $30, take care of lunchtime supervision, which means you don’t have to worry about coming to the campus during lunch hour.

NOTE: Campers must bring their own bag lunch. Registration in the Lunch Zone is a full week commitment. If your camper is registered in a day-long camp (not two separate camps), lunch supervision is already included in the registration fee.

tHe LunCH Zone! Would you like to register your camper for two different half-day camps that run during the same week? The Lunch Zone makes it easy.

tHe serious fun differenCeWhat happens when you combine a university with a camp? Serious fun, that’s what. And while we put a heavy emphasis on fun, we put an even heavier one on meaningful learning. That’s why we design our camps to stimulate and nurture curious minds. You’ll find an extraordinary mix of camps here at Capilano University, from technology, photography and writing to chemistry, filmmaking and music. And they’re not just for kids. There are camps for teens, too. So take a look through our calendar and see what happens when big ideas meet big fun.

It’s inventor and genius Nikola Tesla. He developed the AC electrical system, the rotating magnetic field, and the Tesla coil (still used in radio technology today). He also came up with ideas for many other inventions, most of which were patented by other inventors. Consequently, Tesla rarely got the credit he deserved, which might explain why he tried to create an energy beam to point at arch-rival Thomas Edison’s house. We’re lying about the pointing at the house thing, but Tesla did in fact try to develop a particle beam. And anyone who tries to create a giant beam of any kind sounds fun to us.

Writing Imaginary WorldsAges 9 – 12

One of the best things about reading is getting lost inside another world. As a writer, having an imaginary world of your own gives you a jumping off point for an infinite number of stories, just ask J.K. Rowling or C.S. Lewis! In this workshop, we focus on creating “World Books.” These world books will contain maps, imaginary creatures, illustrations, myths and legends, a lexicon of new words, and anything else you’d like to include to give your world its own rules, history, magic, and mysteries. Creating your own imaginary world from scratch can inspire endless adventures once you, and your characters, start to explore it.

youth Camps aGes 8 – 12 Most camps in the Youth section fall into the 8 to 12 age range, but there are some that are open to teenagers as well. Teenagers can be pushy like that. Or maybe it’s curiosity? Who can say? Anyway, the upshot is that half-day camps that are open to teens and youth are listed in the Teens section. For your convenience, where a half-day camp is open to kids and teens, we’ve indicated that in a purple box immediately beneath the camp description.

It’s easy . Go to the week (column) you’re interested in, and look down the column to see the camps being offered that week . Most camps are half-day camps, and all full-day camps are indicated as such . Age ranges and page numbers are also given, so it’s easy to turn to the camp descriptions .

The chart shows Kids, Youth and Teen camps all on one page, just in case you need to book camps for teens as well as younger kids . It’s a logistical-holistical dream come true! That’s why we’ve dedicated the chart to Dwight D . Eisen-hower . He needed a big picture view when organizing the D-Day landings, and he would have killed for a chart like this . Enjoy the chart, Dwight, wherever you are!

I heartily endorse this chart . D. Eisenhower

Fantastic WritingAges 13+

Harry Potter, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Alice in Wonderland, The Golden Compass, Lord of the Rings, Percy Jackson . . . what do all these books have in common? They are all considered “fantasy.” Fantasy includes a diverse range of stories and has many subgenres, from Urban Fantasy starring vampires to High Fantasy starring wizards and dragons. In this workshop, through discussion, short fiction, and short films, we will explore these subgenres and build our own fantastic worlds. The end results will be a mythic poem and a short story based on that world. Join author Danika Dinsmore for an inspiring journey through the realm of fantasy writing.
