WELCOME TO SUMMER CAMP!Summer boredom is a thing of the past. Every week of Camp Kroc is a unique opportunity to learn new life skills, and a place to make new friends. For parents, Day Camp does more than just provide peace of mind that your children are well cared for, it also provides assurance that your children continue to develop their talents and abilities during the summer months. Day Camp can provide childhood experiences and friendships, which will benefit children for a lifetime. We consider it an honor to have your children entrusted to us and strive to continually expand and improve the care and services we offer.
ABOUT THE KROC CENTERThe Kroc Center redefines what a community center is all about. The programs, as well as the building itself, have been designed to stimulate the mind, body and spirit, to provide hope, and to transform the life of each and every member of the community.
Our summer camp program takes full advantage of all the facility has to offer. Campers stay active at venues such as the pool, gym, rock wall, Ice Arena, and outdoor fields, as well as enjoy arts and crafts, and more.

IMPACT!WEDNESDAYS FROM 2:00 TO 3:00 PM.
IMPACT! is a weekly gathering designed to share the love of Christ through high-energy music, fun activities, and a contemporary message designed for youth. Campers will have the time of their lives while building community, making new friends, and experiencing God in a powerful way. This is included for all camps and staffed in conjunction with pastors from Kroc Center Ministries.
WEEKLY CAMP THEMEWeekly themes are reflected during art sessions, all-camp celebrations, and throughout daily activities. We encourage children to get into the spirit of camp on Fridays by wearing a costume related to the theme. Costumes should be age-appropriate, non-restrictive, and allow for full participation in typical camp activities.
THURSDAYS IN THE THEATREWhat better way to beat the heat than enjoying a few relaxing hours in a full-sized movie theatre? Most Thursday afternoons, campers will be able to watch a movie in our Joan B. Kroc Theatre. Movies are selected based on appropriateness for the general camper population (G or PG), as well as the weekly theme.

Who is watching my child? The majority of our staff members are recruited from local colleges and universities. Most important-ly, our staff is made up of people who love kids. They want to spend their time playing, teaching, and working with children. All Kroc Center Day Camp staff members have cleared reference checks and a nation-al background check. In addition, all staff members are certified in basic First Aid & CPR and receive extensive training in both how to care for youth and how to prevent childhood abuse. You can be sure that we are hiring the best of the best to work with your children.
How Large Are the Camp Groups? What is the Staff to Camper Ratio? Camp groups generally range from 15-32 camp-ers per group. The staff to camper ratio ranges from 1:6 to 1:10 (depending upon the ages within the camp group) and a mini-mum of two counselors are always present, regardless of the number of campers.
What Should My Child Bring to Camp? Campers are required to wear socks and closed-toe shoes daily. Campers should wear season-appropriate clothes in which they are ready to play hard and get dirty! For girls, we do not recommend skirts or dresses. If your child’s camp is scheduled to swim, a swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen will also be needed. Sandals are allowed on the pool deck only. Please label all items and place them in a backpack for your campers to carry. Our Camp provides protective equipment for activities such as rock climbing, however, campers are always welcome to bring their own equip-ment as well.
Pee Wee Parents: Please send your child in clothing and footwear he or she can put on without assistance. We strongly recom-
mend sending your camper with a second set of clothes (in case your camper has a bathroom accident). Pee Wee camp is scheduled for a daily “quiet time” during which the campers may either take a brief nap or do a quiet activity. Parents are en-couraged to send children with a blanket, special book, or something else that helps the child relax. No valuables, please.
What Should NOT Be Brought to Camp? Please make sure that your camper leaves all electronic items (including cell phones), jewelry, toys, card games, and pets at home.
Can I Get an Age Exception for My Child? Campers must be the age indicated in the Day Camp description by September 1, 2020 in order to enroll in that camp. Chil-dren must be at least four years old on the first day of that camp session to enroll in a Pee Wee Camp.
What is ACA Accreditation? ACA is an ac-ronym for the American Camp Association. The ACA has developed a rigorous and in-depth set of standards affecting camp operations, staffing, programming, and safety procedures. Camps that meet these criteria are awarded an ACA Accreditation. We are proud to be an ACA Accredited Day Camp, providing a safe and enriching experience for our campers.
What if My Child Has Special Needs? The Kroc Center is committed to the inclusion of all children in our Day Camp Program, how-ever, the Kroc Center Day Camp Inclusion Program cannot provide specialized 1-on-1 supervision/care for any individual camper. As part of the Inclusion Application pro-cess, each child (and at least one parent)

will be required to attend an interview with the Inclusion Coordinator to discuss/deter-mine if we can provide reasonable accom-modations to meet your child’s needs and (most importantly) keep them safe while at camp. Please call the Inclusion Coordinator at (619) 269-1470 at least two weeks prior to your desired session’s start date to sched-ule your Inclusion Application interview.
How Does Lunch/Snack Work? Lunch and a morning/afternoon snack are provided to each camper free of cost! If a camper is a picky eater, has allergies or has dietary re-strictions, we encourage parents to pack a lunch from home. Our daily schedules are very flexible and vary depending upon the activities planned for your child’s camp. The typical time frame for lunch is thirty minutes between 11:30 am. and 1:30 pm. Snack and lunch menus will be emailed to parents the Friday before the scheduled camp and will also be available for pick-up each Monday at the sign-in table.
What if My Child Needs to Take Medica-tion During Camp Hours? We are happy to assist your child with their medical needs. Medication(s) must be in their original pre-scription container with the child’s name printed on the label and placed in a plastic bag. Please check-in the medication at the Day Camp Office and complete a Medical Information Sheet. Kroc Center staff will not dispense non-prescription medications without written parental consent.
What Happens if My Child Gets Sick or Injured? If a camper is too ill or hurt to con-tinue their camp day, parents will be imme-diately contacted. For minor scrapes and bruises, Day Camp staff will complete a Re-port to Parent (RTP) form to notify parents of the event at pick-up time.
Eligibility for this program is based on income level and address verification within the Kroc Center’s
service area.
