DISCOVER SCUBA Drop-in ClassHave you ever wanted to try SCUBA? Here’s your chance! There is nothing like breath-ing underwater for the very first time. It takes a little getting used to; after all, human beings weren’t designed to do that - but after a few minutes of awestruck wonder, most participants realize how easy scuba diving really is!

The class will include instruction on safety, equipment selection and use, and time to experi-ment and play with underwater games and exploration. The biggest challenge instructors have with the Discover Scuba Diving program is coaxing students out when the class is over. The fun part? It’s all fun - try it for yourself and see! The Tom Tudek Dog Park is free to visitors and is open dawn to dusk. The dog park is for dogs and their adult handler only. By honoring the official rules and respect-ing some of the dangers that children may encounter in the park, we can all work to ensure the safety of your children and dogs.

The Snetsinger Butterfly Garden at Tom Tudek Memorial Park is a diverse eco-system with a wide variety of species of butterflies and its garden is enriched with more than 100 species of native plants serving as caterpillar hosts and providing nectar for adult butterflies.

CRPR MUNICIPAL PARKS

Wondering how you can help improve the Centre Region? Donations of all shapes and sizes help CRPR provide important “extras” that create a more enjoyable leisure experience for all area residents. Over the past several years, this successful program has generated tremendous community support from individuals, groups, and organizations throughout the Centre Region.CrPr recognizes contributions to the Gifts-For-Parks program annually in the CrPr Fall Active Guide.

The Centre Region “Gifts-For-Parks” Program

The Centre Region “Park Partners” Program is an initiative that encourages public and private groups to assist with various improvements to municipal park areas. Volunteer projects have provided many valuable improvements to our park areas over the years such as the PNC-United Way “Day of Caring,” the Park Partner Day each Spring, special projects and cleanups by scouting, community, and civic groups. Volunteering is thriving in the Centre Region! Our thanks to the current CrPr Park Partners. For more information about becoming a “Park Partner” or to view a list of the 18 current partners, please visit www.crpr.org.

Centre Region “Park Partners” Another “Branch” of the Gifts-For-Parks Program

The MyVeteran/MyHero Tribute Tree Campaign initiallyfocused at the new Oak Hall Regional Park. For more information on this honorable ini-tiative please visit: www.crpr.org/MyVeteranMyHero.

Since 2008 the five participating municipalities have been working on plans for a third "Re-gional Park" to be located in Ferguson Township. • Acquisitions: 2008 (75-acres) and 2011(25-acres) for 100 acres total• Updated Master Plan Approved: 2013• Phase 1 Construction: Currently planned for late-2015 and 2016• Park Opens: Spring 2017The need for the facilities in this new park, combined with the value of regional cooperation, has also generated funding assistance from the Commonwealth. However, the postpone-ment of this park project has been associated with a proposed student housing development on the adjoining parcel; the developer is required to provide the entrance roadway, construc-tion access and the utility connections to the park.

Once constructed. Whitehall Road Regional Park will be grand! Shown below is the Master Site Plan for the entire, 100-acre park. The following Phase 1 facilities are planned: • 8 rectangular sportfields and 1 rectangular practice field• 1 larger softball or baseball field.• 1 regional playground area• Basketball court• One large pavilion• Perimeter trail and interior walkways serving the Phase I facilities. The park will also

serve as the trailhead for the Musser Gap Bikeway/Greenway• One set of restrooms with flush toilets and concession stand• Phase 1 parking and related interior park roads• All grading, erosion and sediment control and stormwater management for the 75-acre

parcel.• A new Centralized Parks Maintenance Facility to serve the entire region.

Centre Region COG and your township are

exploring the option of developing an Organics

refuse customers to recycle items including yard

waste (plant trimming, grass clippings) as well as

food waste, which accounts for 40% of waste that

goes to the landfill. We want to determine how
