Canadas New Industry Minister
VANCOUVER - Canada's new andmore secure 10-year ePassport is nowavailable to Canadians announced theHonourable James Moore, Memberof Parliament forPort MoodyWestwoodPort Coquitlam.
The new, 10-year ePassport
provides more convenience for
Canadians, and facilitates safe,
secure travel which, in turn, helpscreate jobs, growth and long-term
prosperity for Canadians, saidMinister Moore. The Canadianpassport is not only a privilege of
citizenship, but a reflection of the
rights and responsibilities of
citizenship.
ePassports are the international normin travel documents. They containtechnologically-advanced features,including an embedded electronic
chip, to prevent fraud. The chipstores the same personal informationas that which is recorded on thesecond page of the passport (exceptfor the signature) as well as a photoand a digital security feature that
proves that the passport was issuedby the Government of Canada. Tocombat fraud, once the personalinformation is stored on the chip, itcannot be modified withoutinvalidating the passport.
The new ePassport features iconicimages that celebrate our history andculture, such as: Robert Harriss
painting of the Fathers ofConfederation; a depiction of the lastspike completing the CanadianPacific Railway in 1885; and a
picture of Pier 21 in Halifax - one ofthe most significant ports of entry for
newly-arrived immigrants between1928 and 1971, and now a NationalHistoric Site.
At $160, a 10-year passport providesbetter value for money forCanadians, as it costs less per yearthan the previous cost of a 5-year
passport. It also means thatCanadians will not have to renew
their passports as frequently.In addition, the new fee structurecame into effect which will enablethe government to continue providingits citizens with one of the worldsmost secure and internationallyrespected passports in a timelymanner.

The Great Seal of CanadaGreat Seal of Canada is used onall state documents such as
proclamations and commissions of
cabinet ministers, senators, judges and
senior government officials.
The seal is made of specially tempered
steel, weighs 3.75 kilograms and is
12.7 centimetres in diameter. The seal
dates back to the beginning of the reign
of Elizabeth the Second, Queen of
Canada. A new seal will be struck
for her successor.
The seal bears the effigy of Queen
Elizabeth II, in her robes, holding theorb and sceptre, and shows her sitting
on the coronation chair.
The present seal was made by the
Royal Canadian Mint. The inscriptions
on it are in French and English.
Previous Great Seals of Canada
were inscribed in Latin.
The seal is kept by the Office of the
Registrar General of Canada.
The Registrar General is also
Minister of Industry.

Terry Fox is one of Canadasgreatest heroes and his storydeserves to be known by allCanadians as an important part ofour nations history, said MinisterMoore. The Marathon of Hopeinspired future generationsworldwide, and Terrys legacycontinues to raise millions of
dollars for cancer research yearafter year. During the first everCanada History Week, I amhonoured to announce apartnership that will giveCanadians the opportunity tolearn about Terrys life and hisoutstanding achievements.
The exhibition will feature some ofthe key artifacts from Terry FoxsMarathon of Hope, which heundertook in 1980 to raise funds forcancer research after losing his leg tocancer at age 18. The Marathon
began in St. Johns, Newfoundlandand Labrador, on April 12, 1980, andended 143 days later in Thunder Bay,Ontario, when his cancer returned.He had completed 5,373 kilometresof his journey. Terry passed away atthe age of 22 on June 28, 1981. Todate, more than $600 million has
been raised worldwide for cancerresearch in Terrys name through theannual Terry Fox Run, held acrossCanada and around the world.

BURNABY - The Honourable JamesMoore, Minister of CanadianHeritage and Official Languages andMember of Parliament forPortMoodyWestwoodPort Coquitlam,announced a partnership agreement
between the friends of the Terry FoxCollection and the future CanadianMuseum of History to honour the
legacy of Terry Fox, one of Canadasgreatest heroes. Together they willdevelop an exhibition featuring thestory and legacy of Terry Fox and hisMarathon of Hope. The exhibitionwill open at the future CanadianMuseum of History in 2015, inconjunction with the 35th anniversaryof the Marathon of Hope.

The Museum of Civilization is veryproud to be working with the friendsof the Terry Fox Collection indeveloping this important exhibitionabout Terry Fox and his Marathon ofHope, said Mark ONeill, Presidentand CEO of the Canadian Museum
of Civilization Corporation, whichwill soon become the CanadianMuseum of History. As Canadasnational museum of history, we lookforward to sharing the story of oneof Canadas greatest heroes, and hisincredible legacy, with Canadiansacross the country.
In addition to the exhibition to openat the Museum in April 2015, the
partnership agreement includes thejoint development of a travellingversion of the exhibition forCanadians across the country. The
partnership agreement also sets a

Since its introduction in 2001,
Health Canada's Marihuana Medical
Access Program (MMAP) has grown
exponentially, from under 500
authorized persons to over 30,000
today. This rapid increase has hadunintended consequences for public
health, safety and security as a result
of allowing individuals to produce
marihuana in their homes. Under the
new regulations, production will no
longer take place in homes and
municipal zoning laws will need to
be respected, which will further
enhance public safety.

announced new regulations that will
change the way Canadians access
marihuana for medical purposes. The
new Marihuana for Medical
Purposes Regulations (MMPR) werepublished in the Canada Gazette,
Part II, on June 19, 2013.
While the courts have said that
there must be reasonable access to
a legal source of marihuana for
medical purposes, we believe that
this must be done in a controlled
fashion in order to protect public
safety, said Minister Moore.
These changes will strengthen the
safety of Canadian communities,
In order to facilitate the transition
from the current program to the new
regime, both will operate
concurrently until March 31, 2014.
Effective April 1, 2014, Health
Canada will no longer produce and
distribute marihuana for medical
purposes. The current Marihuana
Medical Access Regulations
(MMAR) will be repealed on March31, 2014, when the new regime is
fully implemented. Additional
information on key dates will be
provided to program participants and
other stakeholders throughout the
transition period.

to sign a medical document enabling
patients to purchase the appropriate
amount related to their conditions
directly from a Licensed Producer
approved by Health Canada.

jobs, support economic growth,
and contribute to the long-term

health, its economic success, and
its liveability.
Municipalities across the provincehave benefited from infrastructureinvestments made through theoriginal $33 billion Building CanadaPlan and the Economic Action Plan2009. Infrastructure commitments
from all contributors under theoriginal Building Canada Fund, theGreen Infrastructure Fund and theInfrastructure Stimulus Fund totaledover $4.5 billion. Since 2006, theHarper Government has madeunprecedented investments in over43,000 projects to build roads,
bridges, commuter rail and otherimportant public infrastructure.
The New Building Canada Plan willbuild on the Harper Government'scommitment to infrastructureinvestments and provide over $53
billion for provincial, territorial and
municipal infrastructure, includingmore than $47 billion in newfunding. The New Plan, whichfollowed consultations with
provinces, territories, the FCM andother stakeholders, will take effectfollowing the conclusion of theoriginal Building Canada program.

Minister Moore announcing summer jobs for museums and heritage organizations
FORT LANGLEY - During the firstever Canada History Week, theHonourable James Moore, Ministerof Canadian Heritage and OfficialLanguages, announced support forthe creation of job opportunitiesacross Canada to help young people
build careers in museums and
heritage organizations.Our Government is taking
measures to help provide young
Canadians with valuable work
experience in heritage fields, saidMinister Moore. By investing inheritage organizations across the
country, we are helping to enhance
Canadians knowledge of our rich
cultural heritage and history.
This investment is expected to create2,500 summer and short-term jobs,including 1,900 jobs in small andmedium-sized Canadian museums.The Governments assistance
provides partial salary subsidies toemployers for hiring Canadianstudents and recent graduates, aged15 to 30.
The Canadian Museums Association,the professional association forCanadas museums community, will
receive funding to deliver the YoungCanada Works (YCW) programs toheritage institutions and youth.
The impact of the YCW program onthe heritage community as a whole isundeniably positive, said Nancy
Noble, President of the CanadianMuseums Associations Board of
Directors. Since its inception, theprogram has built up a solidreputation among heritageinstitutions and with youth studyingin the museum field. It is our
privilege to be involved in thecreation of a passionate, well-trained,and well-rounded workforce of thefuture.
The Government of Canada isproviding funding of $12,782,200over two years through YoungCanada Works Heritage Programs.Through this program of theDepartment of Canadian Heritage,the Government offers financialsupport to close to 1,500 employers
by providing partial salary subsidies.
