Page 3: Summary of the results of discussions in the aviation panel · discussions in the aviation panel Russell Dudley The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) • Our recommendations

• EGNOS and Galileo serving all users needs for navigation‒ All VFR users will benefit from EGNOS/Galileo

‒ RNP APCH down to LPV to all IFR runway ends by 2024

‒ New market: RNP APCH down to LPV to non-instrument runways: more than 2000 airports!

‒ GBAS to CATII/III with Galileo

‒ Helicopter operations with EGNOS: Low Level routes, PinS

‒ LPV combined with Enhanced Vision Systems, Synthetic Vision Systems

‒ Advanced operations: curved/steep approaches, flexible slopes, displaced threshold with EGNOS

‒ SBAS for potential future parallel approaches

Priority applications for aviation

Page 4: Summary of the results of discussions in the aviation panel · discussions in the aviation panel Russell Dudley The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) • Our recommendations

• EGNOS is essential for ADS-B positioning‒ Lightweight portable solutions for GA needed

‒ ‘ADS-B in’ applications

‒ ADS-B in Class G enhancing situational awareness

‒ Supporting radar rationalisation

• Aircraft tracking and autonomous distress tracking‒ Accurate positioning to locate aircraft in distress in dynamic situation

‒ Early identification of distress situations

• Drones‒ U-Space

‒ Geofencing

‒ Detect and avoid

‒ Robust Navigation and surveillance

Navigation

RPAS/Drones

Surveillance

Search and Rescue

Endorse continued work on remote ELT activation with Galileo RLS

Galileo superior performance in multipath environment facilitates operations in urban areas, canyons, etc.

EGNOS and Galileo enables geofencingaccuracy and integrity

Keep the discussion on GNSS Performance requirements ongoing!

SBAS is the only technology which can satisfy 99.9% availability

Resilience is a must to enable ADS-B as primary means

Interoperability is a must ADS-B in and out essential in all airspace

Keep up the work on LPV implementation on the non-instrument runways!

GSA to support Aviation authorities in PBN implementation and usage

Ensure EGNOS coverage for EU-28 with LPV and LPV200 service

EGNOS compliance with ICAO Annex 10 Robustness is a must: protection vs spoofing/jamming

Page 6: Summary of the results of discussions in the aviation panel · discussions in the aviation panel Russell Dudley The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) • Our recommendations

• It was a tough but productive work --- > Keep it up!

• Good to have all applications and requirements in one single document!

• Very useful to have all value chain representatives around the table: ANSPs, CAAs, airspace users from all communities: regional, business, general aviation), avionics, device manufacturer and even drones!

• Clear performance parameters and schedule for Galileo: airspace users need time to get equipped

Page 7: Summary of the results of discussions in the aviation panel · discussions in the aviation panel Russell Dudley The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) • Our recommendations

• Wake vortex free separation approaches for mixed aircraft categories

• GBAS GAST-F with DFMC (CAT II/III approaches)

• Approaches to lower minima and taxiing guidance using SBAS and EVS/ SVS

• EGNOS enabled system performance under a multilink ADS-B environment

• MASPs for remote ELT activation for autonomous distress tracking

• Drones: Detect and avoid, geofencing, robust navigation based on EGNOS and Galileo, Authenticated communication link, concept for VLL-drones navigation requirements

Our identified R&D needs

Page 8: Summary of the results of discussions in the aviation panel · discussions in the aviation panel Russell Dudley The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) • Our recommendations

• Which are the technologies/systems that can fulfil the requirements of your sector today?‒ EGNOS, GPS, ILS, GBAS, DME/DME

• Out of these technologies, which is the primary PNT solution at the moment, what are the alternative technologies you are using as backup?‒ Primary Means: GPS / EGNOS

‒ Alternates: DME/DME, INS

• What is your perception for the evolution of your requirements and related primary and alternative PNT systems in the next 10/15 years?‒ A progress move to primary means GNSS based on Galileo / GPS augmented by

A-RAIM and EGNOS
