Study of
Sowing Equipment & Stubble
Management
September 2014
Sowing Equipment Study Objectives
• Four leading grower groups in Victoria contracted Insightrix Research Pty Ltd
(Insightrix) to conduct a study of grower member sowing equipment usage.
• The four grower groups are: Birchip Cropping Group (BCG), Irrigated Cropping
Council (ICC), Southern Farming Systems (SFS), Victorian No-Till Farming
Association (VNTFA).
• The study investigated the type of sowing equipment being used by grower
group members, the brand of equipment, the implement being used: tyne or
disc, and the number of hectares sown with each piece of equipment owned.
• The study also identified information requirements and sources when selecting
sowing equipment and sowing setup.
• Results are reported in aggregate and are not presented for the different grower
groups, as indicated in the final study proposal dated April 2014.
