The course is divided into two parts both of which must be passed in order to be awarded the PearsonDiploma in Education and Training.

This programme can lead to a career in teaching and beginning a career pathway in education.

The DET course is widely recognised by further education institutions and other public, private, voluntaryand community organisations. You can gain employment in various positions ranging from functional skillsteacher, online/e-tutor, and further education teacher/tutor to training officer and manager.

On successful completion of the DET course, you may choose to:

• Progress to further education studies (level 6) in a BA in Education/ Bachelor of Education(B.Ed) at numerousuniversities in the UK. The DET qualification is recognised as equivalent to the Certificate of Educationqualifications in the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications.

The DET qualification is recognised as one of the Initial Teacher Education(ITE) qualifications under theSociety for Education and Training (SET)

• Must have access to 100 hours of post-16 teaching/training practice(students are encouraged to securea placement prior to applying for the course).

• Non-English speaking applicants will be asked to provide evidence of their proficiency in English Language,equivalent to an overall IELTS score of 5.5 or higher with no section scoring less than 5.5.

• At least one GCE A level or a Level 3 qualification (or the equivalent) and 4 GCSEs, with a GCSEgrade C and above in English and Maths (or the equivalent).

• Must be experienced or qualified in the subject area they wish to teach at the appropriate level, forexample a Degree or a HND (Level 5) with relevant work experience.

• Applicants must be 19 years of age or over.

You must attend all lectures and pass all of the modules which are assessed entirely by coursework, making useof evidence drawn from teaching practice.

You will also be required to complete 100 hours of certified practical post-16 teaching experience during the course,ofwhich 8 hours must be observed by a qualified assessor.

Gaining the teaching placement experience is yours responsibility and a key requirement for the course.
