Hempstead Public SchoolsMessage from Regina Armstrong, Acting Superintendent of Schools:It is hard to believe shortly we will begin the 2018-2019 school year. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to our administrators, teachers, and teaching assistants for being a resilient team of educators, who sincerely care and are dedicated to our students. To our Custodial and Civil Service units, our school décor and safety would not be the same without your commitment to excellence. This year, we must continue to strive to promote healthy and safe school climates conducive to learning, as we create an atmosphere of rigor and relevance that support academic success and healthy outcomes for all students.

As our students return this fall, I challenge all staff to “be ready.” Our families deserve nothing less than our best when it comes to the education of their children. Our monies, talents, and resources will be used to provide our students with an equitable and fair education, so they are prepared to become highly productive citizens. Our motto is simple – Students First!

My commitment to our students will be centered on expanding opportunities for them, so they will be college and career ready. We will accomplish this by: expanding our Advanced Placement (AP) and Career Technical Education (CTE) offerings at the high school, increasing the number of students in Regent classes at the middle school, creation of Small Learning Communities/Academies in our secondary schools, aligning curriculum P – 12 vertically and horizontally and across content areas to the new standards, and by becoming candidates for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary and Middle Years Programs. These areas of foci are intended to help us improve our efforts to provide effective instruction and promote increased performance of all students in the District.

I invite the community to join us in this very important work. Parents and community members are critical partners in the education of our students. Students learn best when educators develop meaningful partnerships and relationships with students, parents, and the community. It may be a cliché, but it truly does “take a village to educate a child.” As the Acting Superintendent of the Schools, I am extremely grateful for a supportive community of residents, parents, politicians, alumni and business partners who take tremendous pride in our school district, and truly appreciate the vision and leadership of our new Board of Education. Positive, supportive relationships are what our students need to feel and be successful.

I encourage and value input from the HUFSD community as we continue along our path to success and encourage you to periodically, check our District’s website to learn about upcoming events and happenings around the district. Our goal is to continue to work in providing relevant and timely information to our students, staff, parents and community through the various links available at: www.hempsteadschools.org.

If you have a question or concern, please give me a call at (516) 434-4031 and/or email me at [email protected].

Committed to putting “Students First!”

Regina Armstrong Acting Superintendent of Schools

Comprometida a poner a “Los Estudiantes Primero"
