100 Days at Lalor Primary School This week our prep students celebrated their 100th day of schooling at Lalor Primary School. They should be very proud of their efforts so far this year and their progress has been remarkable. It’s always a pleasure for staff and parents to see our preps demonstrating excitement, enthusiasm and a real determination to achieve and succeed.
Parent Opinion Survey On Monday a random sample of our families received the 2015 Parent Opinion Survey to complete. The surveys are confidential and cover areas such as school improvement, extra curricula activities, general satisfaction, homework, engagement, transition, behaviour and reporting. It is very important that these surveys are returned to the school by tomorrow as we use this data to help us plan the future direction of our school.
Parent Forum Our parent forum on Monday was an opportunity for parents and community members to inform the writing of our school self evaluation. Although only a small group of parents/community members attended the discussion was positive and, along with information received from staff and students, helps to give us an overview of the feelings around the school. I have included a small snippet of some of the feedback we received.
What skills do we want our students to have acquired over their seven years of primary schooling? Literate and numerate Motivated learners Have positive social skills Broader view of the community and the world Confident communicators Support for students to go to the next level in sport Creativity

RESILIENCE PROJECT
Lalor Primary School is very pleased to announce that we have recently become part of a Resilience project
that involves surveying parents and students about resilience as well as the staff having professional
development to support students in their development of resilience strategies.
Andrew Fuller, Clinical Psychologist and Family Therapist from Resilient Youth Australia will be supporting
our school during this project and supplying ongoing articles for our future newsletters.
Ten ways to promote the natural genius in your child Andrew Fuller The contribution made by parents and grandparents to a child or teen’s success in school and in life is enormous. When teachers and families work together the results that kids achieve are amazing. Here are some of the main things we can all do to give children and teenagers a boost in school success. 1. Be positive about learning ourselves By taking on hobbies, new courses and discussing new inventions and ideas we show our children and grandchildren that learning is interesting and it is for everyone. This can be as easy as discussing new idea and shows, interesting facts and discoveries, reading new books- the key idea is for young people to know that learning is something adults do too.
