ELEMENTS OF ART Students will learn the 8 Elements of Art! Starting

in the auditorium, we will go over each element

with an engaging PowerPoint with student

participation. After a brief learning activity, MMA

docents will take the students to view art in the

galleries and apply what they learned!

HACKLEY GIFTS

Tour our “Pictures of the Best Kind”

exhibition with a MMA docent to learn

about the legacy of Charles Hackley and

his impact on the Muskegon Museum of

Art!

HACKLEY READERS Join us for this two-part language arts adventure!

The Hackley Readers tour, done in partnership

with the Hackley Public Library, allows your

students to experience creative story times at both

historic buildings!

Note: Program was previously known as New Reader

Round Up and is best when the MMA hosts the Illustrator

focused exhibition.

• Class A | Brief tour + story time at MMA

• Class B | Creative story time at HPL

• Depart of first venue + switch to second venue

This experience features an optional haiku writing activity.

from previous competitions

• Optional classroom activity: haiku writing

ART TALKS BACKIn April, the MMA announces the winner of our Art Talks Back poetry writing

competition! The competition melds together our visual art and the literary art of

local poets, providing us with an array of poems complementing our permanent

collection. Bring your students to experience these two art forms at the MMA!

ART FROM EVERYWHERE

SUGGESTED AGES | 5th Grade – College

We love sharing with students how art can come from everywhere and anyone

and look like almost anything! During the tour, students will enjoy exploring the

diversity of our collection in the galleries with an MMA docent.

Students will learn about the types of portraiture found throughout art history

and explore examples in our galleries! We’ll touch on themes of tradition,

personification, and the age of the selfie!

This experience features an optional self-portrait activity in the classroom.

with an MMA docent

HOW TO LOOKBased on the Lincoln Center’s model for Aesthetic Education, we will teach

your students how to effectively LOOK, ANALYZE, and INTERPRET works

of art in the galleries! This experience focuses on inquiry-based learning and is

designed to teach students how to be successful and confident museumgoers.

Interested in bringing full Aesthetic Education experiences to your classroom? Program includes

– Station A: story time + gallery

visit with a MMA docent

• Group Two

– Station B: finger painting

activity

• Groups Flip Stations!

• Departure

MOUSE PAINT Red mouse, blue mouse, and yellow mouse too! Bring your students to learn

about primary and secondary colors at the MMA. This experience includes

story time, a brief look in the galleries, and a hands-on finger painting activity!
