Acheson + Glover (AG) wasestablished as a family runbusiness over 50 years ago in1960, with expertise in quarryingand concrete products.
We’ve moved on a long way since then, but we still like to think ofourselves as a successful familybusiness, with the ethos of personalattention, quality and service.
With the support of our loyal anddedicated workforce, we havedeveloped a wide range of products, from blocks and readymix, rightthrough to specialised segmentalretaining walls and naturalaggregate paving.
We have been designing, manufacturing and supplying a rangeof structural precast concreteproducts for over 20 years.
Operating from modernmanufacturing facilities in NorthernIreland, we have a total annualcapacity of over 400,000m2 ofprestressed flooring and 10,000tonnes of precast stairs and landings. At the time of writing, this puts us inthe top three direct suppliers withinour industry in the UK.
All our products are designed andmanufactured to the latest Britishand European standards and arefully CE marked. Our qualitymanagement system is fullyaccredited under BS EN ISO 9001. The vast majority of aggregates aresupplied from extensive in-housereserves.
AG offer “Complete PrecastConcrete Solutions” which wedeliver across the whole of the UKand Ireland. We have an in-houseteam with a wealth of technicalexperience and expertise that willsupport the customer at each stageof their project, and will deliver ontime and within budget.

Prestressed plate flooringAll the advantages of a plate flooring system without
the propping! AG prestressed plate forms a
permanent shutter.
The AG prestressed plate flooring system is designed
as a composite flooring option. This is an ideal
structural solution for incorporating other precast
elements, such as precast balconies and beams, which
can easily be tied into the floor zone.
>> Can be used on steel frame, insitu concrete
structures and traditional construction (block work)
>> Progressive collapse design can be easily achieved
>> Suitable for composite beam designs with steel or
concrete
>> Can accommodate concentrated point loads
>> Does not require propping during installation in
most cases.
We are experts in the design, manufacture, delivery and installation ofa range of structural concrete products:
Prestressed hollowcore flooringHollowcore flooring provides a comprehensive
structural design, incorporating progressive
collapse detail where necessary, suitable for a wide
range of domestic and commercial applications.
With unsupported spans up to 18 metres, AG can
design and manufacture to meet virtually every
requirement. Flooring slabs are available in a range
of depths: 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm,
300mm, 400mm and 500mm.
Hollowcore slabs are designed to have effective
shear key joints between adjacent slabs such that
when grouted the individual slabs form a system
that behaves similarly to a monolithic slab.
Hollowcore flooring can be combined with an
insitu structural concrete topping to form a
composite slab. This allows the engineer to
design for maximum load distribution and
minimum structural depth.
Hollowcore slabs are manufactured under rigidly
controlled factory conditions to meet the very
specific requirements of the customer. Service
ducts, recesses and openings are designed into
your floor and accurately incorporated during
manufacture
All hollowcore floors have inherent acoustic and
thermal qualities.
Reinforced hollowcore flooringBranded as Ultrafloor®, and designed primarily for the
housing sector, Ultrafloor provides a cost effective,
quick turnaround solution for housebuilders and certain
commercial applications. Ultrafloor is manufactured in
stock lengths up to a maximum span of 5.3 metres,
600mm wide, and is available ex stock.
We can provide a complete package including site
dimensioning, design and installation.
Stairs + LandingsTo complement our flooring range, AG supply a wide
range of precast stair and landing components. All
Precast components are manufactured under factory
controlled conditions, using only the highest quality
materials and moulds and designed and manufactured
to the latest British and European standards.

COMPLETE PRECAST SOLUTIONS FROM CONCEPTION TO COMPLETION
FEATURES +ADVANTAGES OF PRECAST CONCRETE
All precast concrete products have the benefit of a factory controlled production environment, together with speed and ease of installation.
QualityWe have a proven record of quality of product and service.
This is underlined by our accreditation under BS EN ISO 9001
and certified CE marking of all our products. All flooring and
stair products are manufactured to an ‘Ordinary finish’ as
defined in BS EN 13670 (Type A, BS8110) unless otherwise
agreed, and are suitable for direct decoration.
Design Flexibility Enhanced span capabilities can be achieved by utilising
design criteria. Floors can be designed to incorporate a
variety of factory formed holes notches, splays, reduced ends,
solid ends, open cores, progressive collapse design and
composite design within steel frames. Stairs can be designed
and configured for a wide range of applications.
SustainabilityPrecast concrete has excellent thermal properties and can be
used with various types of heating and cooling systems,
which makes it a real sustainable choice of designers and
clients. This is an important factor for BREEAM rating.
All waste is recycled on site and none goes to landfill.
CEM2 cement and recycled water is used in the
production of concrete.
Fire Resistance All AG hollowcore floor units have an inherent
1 hour fire resistance. Higher resistances can be
achieved by increasing concrete cover and various
ceiling finishes.
Acoustic QualitiesPrecast units have a high resistance to both impact
and airborne sound, and comply with the latest
Building Regulations. We offer a range of high
density slabs in various depths to enhance these
qualities in applications such as care homes and
residential buildings.
Immediate Working PlatformFor follow-on trades, reducing any down times.
Safe + Fast Installation Compared to formwork and insitu concrete,
installation times are faster, making a positive
construction to the build programe.
FLOOR TYPE: MOST ECONOMICAL FOR: MOST USEFUL WHERE:
Hollowcore Spans 2m - 18m • Cost is important - most economical span / depth ratio.
Can be manufactured to suit almost any structure • Floor depth is important - achieves largest span with minimum depth.
- concrete, steel and block work. Can be fitted into steel beams to reduce overall floor depth.
Easily manufactured to suit unusual details and angles. • There are specific requirements - every floor is bespoke.
• Service openings are required - factory formed, rather than cast on site.
Prestressed Highly loaded areas or • Buildings have a lot of external structural elements.
Plate buildings over 4 stories. • There are high concentrated point loads (eg plant rooms).
• Type HA traffic loadings are required.
• Progressive collapse detail is needed.
• There are structural elements such as beams and balconies to be tied in.
• A continuous floor design is needed.

Manufactured to BS EN 1168 on heated steel beds in anenclosed, controlled factory environment, with a 28 daycube strength of concrete in excess of 50N/mm2, usingonly the highest quality raw materials you can beconfident of a consistent quality product.
Each floor is designed to our customer’s exactspecification. Service ducts, recesses and openings aredesigned into your floor and accurately incorporatedduring manufacture.
Saves TimeTime consuming site operations such as propping andshuttering wet concrete are virtually eliminated thus havinga positive effect on the construction project.
Immediate PlatformOnce the AG floor units have been placed in position andgrouted, they provide an immediate working platform for allfollow-on trades.
No Propping In most cases propping is not required with Hollowcoreflooring, saving time and money. The area below the floorremains free from congestion allowing follow-on trades toprogress unhindered.
Design FlexibilityPrestressed Hollowcore floors can be designed to suit avery wide range of buildings and meet most project criteria.
Quality FinishState of the art manufacturing techniques ensure a qualityfinish. Direct decoration using suitable materials is possiblein many projects.
Diaphragm ActionOnce the AG units have been grouted they can be assumedto provide a floor providing full diaphragm action.
Service OpeningsService openings with a diameter less than 75mm can becreated through units after installation by drilling centrallythrough the cores. You must consult with our design officebefore commencing this work.
Generally service openings up to 300mm wide in a singlestandard unit width are permitted subject to satisfyingdesign criteria. These should be factory formed.
Openings up to 1200mm can usually be accommodated, subject to design criteria, using structural steel hangerssupplied by AG at an additional cost.
All service openings formed by AG are to be made good bythe main contractor after installation of service pipes etc.

Table indicates allowable characteristic live loads for various upstand arrangements and plate thicknessusing a 35N/mm2 insitu concrete topping (allowance has been made for self weight of composite unit).
The Advantages:
>> Does not require propping during installation - in most cases.
>> Suitable for concentrated point loads.
>> Suitable for HA Traffic loadings.
>> Easiest way of achieving progressive collapse detail.
>> No modification required for buildings over 4 stories.
>> Suitable for the creation of composite beam designs with
steel or concrete.
>> Can achieve a continuous floor design.
>> Manufactured to BS EN 13747.
Standard Composite SectionAs the system does not need propped, installation is fastand hassle free. The upstand ribs can be used to supportthe mesh at the correct level. The entire structure can becompletely decked before any concrete needs to bepoured giving you greater flexibility within the buildprogramme.
On a steel frame the complete building can be decked outwithout any insitu concrete which can be poured to suitthe programming of edge details.
Please contact our design office on 028 8556 8441for full details.
PRESTRESSEDPLATE FLOORING
The AG prestressed plate flooring system isdesigned as a composite option. It is ideal wherestructural elements such as balconies or beamsneed tied into the structure. WIDEST RANGE OF CONCRETEBUILDING SOLUTIONS AVAILABLE
Ground BeamsDesigned to meet your requirements - concrete beams provide a
strong, durable structural element.
BalconiesA key feature on many modern apartment buildings, well
designed and carefully detailed balconies can add to the
character of the building.
Like the rest of the structural precast range, balconies are
designed to our clients’ requirements and can incorporate a
variety of service openings, draining facilities and design details,
incorporating thermal break systems for steel, timber or concrete
solutions. Our extensive experience ensures an excellent finish
with careful detailing.
Lift ShaftsManufactured off-site in bespoke moulds and installed quickly
and efficiently by our specialist installation teams.
Working closely with your lift supplier, we can ensure that all
components are accurately positioned, including channels, call
button recesses and control panel recess. Additionally we can
design and manufacture the capping slabs with all temporary
and permanent anchors cast in, ensuring a safe installation of all
M&E components.
Because shafts are manufactured as a series of boxes, the need
for temporary works or propping is eliminated. They can be
designed to replace blockwork or even as shear walls.
Terraced Seating UnitsAG concrete terraced seating units provide the complete
structural solution for fixed seating or standing areas. The
ideal choice for the use in sports venues, leisure centres,
swimming pools, concert arenas, and conference venues,
terrace units can be used anywhere there is a requirement
for banked seating.
Our terrace units can span up to 9 metres and are available
in a variety of profiles. Prefabricated in our factory, the
components are delivered to site ready for installation by our
contracts team. Fast installation of this key element and the
immediate creation of a safe working platform greatly assists
the follow-on trades and helps to keep the construction
programme on track.
The robust inert nature of concrete makes it ideal for items
such as seating terraces. The smooth, even, pale grey
surface can simply be sealed and left as the finish or it can
directly accept most other finishes such as paint, timber or
carpet. The superb fire performance of concrete makes it
ideal from a safety point of view.

BREEAM
In terms of the environmental impact, Precast Flooring
offers a solution that adds benefit to the overall health
and well being of a building, making reductions in energy
and improving on the material life cycle.
In a commercial application, Prestressed Hollowcore
generally achieves an A or A+ rating (ref: BRE Green
Guide 2008).
THERMALMASSTo achieve higher thermal mass, architects and
engineers can choose a flooring product which offers
both high mass and thermal conductivity properties.
The advantages of this thermal mass can be further
enhanced by offering the ability to control the
temperature of the slab. Working in conjunction with
mechanical engineers, AG can offer a system which
circulates conditioned air through the cores of the slab
to change the thermal properties of the mass and
consequently the building.
In order to minimise this impact, we take a proactive
rather than reactive stance on environmental issues. In
recognition of these efforts, we have won a number of
environmental awards.
BS EN ISO 14001 CertificationBS EN ISO 14001 is a comprehensive tool that provides
all industry with a way of controlling environmental
impacts. AG are certified for a multi-site management
system that documents environmental impacts including:
Energy Waste, Production Waste and Carbon Emissions.
Control Of The Working EnvironmentAny industrial process can lead to pollution of the
surrounding environment and atmosphere. In the
quarrying and concrete product manufacturing industry,
our processes involve blasting raw aggregate, crushing,
screening, washing and finally the various production
processes to create our extensive product ranges. Dust
is the main environmental hazard within our plants. In
recognition of this the Company has developed an
Environmental Policy, which outlines the Company’s
commitment to the environment.
>> Dedicated environmental operative on each of our
manufacturing sites, responsible for dust control,
monitoring silt discharge and ensuring company
meets requirements of IPC (Industrial Pollution
Control) licence requirements
>> Train staff to ensure that the workforce understands
the environmental impact of both the individual and
company activities, and environmental policy
commitments
>> Actively promote the communication of issues
concerning the environment to staff, suppliers and
customers.
Waste Management & DisposalOur objective is to eliminate, reduce, reuse and where
possible recycle all forms of company waste. By doing this
it is possible for us to improve our environment, maintain a
safe and healthy workplace for our employees, increase
operational efficiencies and achieve savings. Eliminating
the generation of waste at its source are prime
considerations in all plant operations. The company is
committed to identifying and implementing waste
reduction opportunities through encouragement and
involvement of its employees. We promote co-operation
and co-ordination between industry, local authorities and
the public towards the shared goal of reducing waste at its
source, re-using and recycling waste wherever possible.
Energy ManagementWe have targets for continual reduction in energy usage
(electricity, oil, gas, etc.) for given levels of production.
