SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 2013

NOTICE TO STUDENTS COMPANY: Concrete Shop, Inc. is a manufacturer of precast concrete, cast stone, and glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) for architectural, structural, and ornamental applications. Founded in 1975 in Vancouver, Washington, we have been supplying custom concrete building materials throughout the Pacific Northwest. Southwest Washington Contractors Association (SWCA) is an organization of commercial construction professionals. Established in 1947 and located in Vancouver, Washington, the SWCA has more than 63 years of experience as a resource for the construction industry. SWCA is comprised of general contractors, specialty contractors, engineers, architects and service companies supportive of the industry. ELIGIBILITY: We are seeking candidates who have been accepted into the certified academic program of construction management. Candidates must have completed the second year course work as a minimum to be considered. GENERAL INFORMATION: This is a paid internship position. Interns are expected to work between 20-40 hours a week during a 12 week internship period. Additionally interns are expected to work approximately 15 hours a week at Southwest Washington Contractors Association. Interns may receive academic credit if an agreement is made between CSI Human Resources Department and the intern’s college or university. All interns are subject to CSI’s employee rules. Interns will work directly with a senior manager who will oversee their development and learning experiences. See internship plan overview for a detailed description. It is our company’s goal to provide exposure to students to become familiar with Suppliers, Sub-Contractors and General Contractors so that they may have opportunities to network and develop valuable relationships in the industry that will help with future career opportunities. PROCEDURE: Each student should familiarize themselves with the contents of this internship programs packet. We are requesting that a faculty member of the College of Construction Management agree to sponsor a student. By sponsoring a student the faculty member acknowledges that the student is in good standings with the Department of Construction Management and agrees to be a point of contact for CSI for the duration of the internship. INTERNSHIP PLAN / OVERVIEW

PURPOSE: The purpose of this internship is to provide a practical work experience to reinforce the material learned in the classroom. The intent is for students to apply the concepts learned in an actual work experience and to gain on-the-job experiences from a unique supplier / subcontractor perspective. It is our hope that students will be exposed to a wide variety of tasks and issues during their internship, in both field and office environments. PROPOSED SCHEDULE: 3 month / 12 week Internship Week: 1 – Company Orientation, Safety & Job Review

• Introduction to company policies, rules and expectations. • Safety orientation & procurement of personal protective equipment • Interview company management team to learn roles & responsibilities. • Forklift certification training. • Orientation at SWCA.

Week: 2 thru 4 – Architectural Precast Concrete Production • Work along side production crew in the production of precast members. • Develop understanding of the following:

o Concrete properties o Production practices o Reinforcing requirements o Work place safety.

• 1-2 days a week Intern will work at SWCA in assisting Week: 5 thru 11 – Estimating & Project Management

• One on one interaction with company’s Estimator & Project Managers. • Review invitations to bid & update bid calendar. • Review of specifications & contract provisions. • Quantity take-offs and estimating for bids and change orders. • Follow-up on post-bid activities with contractors, installers and vendors. • Attend pre-bid jobsite meetings. • Assist in procurement and scheduling of materials and delivery of product. • Attend job site safety meetings & walkthroughs; assist in field verification &

examinations. • Tracking RFI’s and follow up. • Submittal & shop drawing review. • 15 hours a week will be dedicated to SWCA endeavors.

NETWORKING: Interns will be given the opportunity to join and participate in a professional development committee with Southwest Washington Contractors Association. Interns will be given the opportunity to attend with their senior manager to social networking functions such as Contractors Coffee, Golf Tournament, Continuing Education Courses, and Top Projects award banquet.
