• Chance (Statistics and Probability)

Time

This term our students will extend their knowledge of Patterns and Algebra by focusing on the following achievement standards:

Year 1

• Explain time durations.• Tell time to the half-hour.

Year 2

• Classify outcomes of simple familiar events.

Year 2

• Describe outcomes for everyday events.

Year 5• List outcomes of chance experiments with

equally likely outcomes and assign probabilities between 0 and 1.

Year 6• Compare observed and expected

frequencies.• Describe probabilities using simple

fractions, decimals and percentages.

KINDY NUMBER EXPLORATION

Although learning the Australian Curriculum is not a requirement, our cleaver kindy students have been focusing on number exploration during integrated lessons with the year 1 and year 2 students. Kindy are focusing on the following achievement standard:

Mathematics in Action

Page 3The small and remote outback school making a BIG difference!

“The only way

to learn

maths is to

do maths.

• Children are always learning.

• Kindergarten provides a place for children to come together to play and learn.

• Educators are skilled and experienced in building on the strengths and interests of children to support learning, wellbeing and development.

• Connection is essential to wellbeing.

• Kindergarten provides a place to reconnect together – reconnecting friendships and relationships, reconnecting routines.

• Educators support children’s resilience to grow, to learn about emotions and build a sense of wellbeing.

• Everyone (children, families, educators) working together.

• Kindergarten provides a place for everyone’s voice to be heard to support learning and development.

• Educators understand that transitions take time and are unique for each child and family.

• Educators will help children to feel safe and secure in the kindergarten environment.

Kindy Counts

Reconnection

To ensure our kindy students have a successful transition back to school we are focusing on the three elements of learning, wellbeing and belonging.

“ A successful connection to

kindergarten is all about

learning, wellbeing and

belonging.

How Good is This! – Student Work

Creative Writing

Studies show that reading helps develop writing skills, but writing also helps develop cognitive growth, organisational abilities, and the power to influence others through persuasion. In short, writing powers the brain.

Children who practice creative writing more often generally perform better in other subjects such as math, science, and English. Challenging themselves to come up with creative thoughts and problem solve, builds the confidence and discipline students need to succeed in all areas of life.

The Fairground

John and Mary ran excitedly into the library. “Mother, Father, the fairground has arrived! Might we be permitted to attend?” begged Mary.

“All the children in town are going!” added John, Mary’s brother.

“Silence! Commanded their strict father, his stern face showing his great disgust of them even thinking of such thing. “Firstly NEVER raise your voice and secondly NEVER even think of suck thing!

You will not be attending and that is final!” added their Mother, also disgusted in them.

“You shouldn’t be wasting time on such useless things when you could be reading books and learning about space and physics!” said their Father.

Mary and John were sent to their room to do their daily reading and suddenly John had an idea! They could sneak out via the window! Once out it was only a short walk to the nearby Fairground.

When they arrived, they saw their some of classmates eating cotton candy lining up for the Ferris wheel. Mary and John joined them, after that, they went on the bumper cars. Then it was finally time to go home.

When they got back and just sat on their beds, their parents came through the door. Mary and John, thinking of the normal story thought they had been caught but to their surprise, their parents only came up to say it was time for lunch.
