Stripping, Trenching SL Mapping Report - Milner Township
Introduction
A program of stripping, trenching and mapping was conducted by Lake Superior Resources Corporation from July 14th until August 6th in Milner township.
T enation fa Access
The area on which the work was performed is located in the north central part of the township. The site is located within the Larder Lake Mining Recorders District at a latitude of 47 39.33" and a longitude of 8049.90".
Access to the site is obtained by taking Hwy. 560 west from Gowganda for 7.2 km.and turning left onto a bush road (Old Mannridge Mine road). Travel .8 km. south and then take an access trail on your left for 428 metres where area 2 is located just north of the trail. Area 3 is located at the end of the area 2 trench. To reach area l continue on the trail another 140 metres.

Previous Exploration Work
The Bishop Mining Company operated the shaft at the south of area 1. This shaft was sunk 130 feet with drifting of 20 feet. The Ontario Geological Survey report 175, p.79 reports an assay of 24.78 ounces of silver per ton from these working and a grab sample indicated 0.09 percent cobalt.
Stripping and Trenching Program
This program took place during July and the beginning of August over a 23 day period of 12 hour days. The operator and equipment were supplied by Fred Swain. The equipment model was a Cat Backhoe 416B.
The stripping and trenching took place over an area that varied in depth from two to six feet of overburden. There were two areas that were trenched and one area that was stripped. Mechanical and manual stripping was continens over the 23 day period and as a result stripping and trenching exposed an area of 1280 sq. metres.
An access trail approximately 20 metres long was made into area 2 and the access trail from the Mannridge road had to be cleared of growth to reach the sites. This work accounted for one backhoe day and manual labour. Heavy rain and equipment repair slowed progress on a few occasions.
A test pit was made just west of the stripped area but because of the deep overburden in that area it was backfilled.
The equipment utilized during manual stripping included 2 pumps, 1000 ft. of fire hose, a fire nozzle, 2 chain saws, suction hose, generator, extension cord, winch, bush saw and numerous shovels and axes. Hand grubbing and washing were extensively carried out.
The site supervisor was Sherry Swain.
Mapping Program
Mapping was undertaken by surveying the access road relative to the claim line. The north - south claim line between claim # 1223921 and # 1224295 strikes just east of area 2 and travels through area 3 north 84 metres to the two posts. Area 2 is located on claim # 122.4295 and two-thirds of area 3 is also located on that claim. Area l is located on claim # 122*3^2).
A 15 metre measuring tape was laid out on the ground along the stripped area l using specific bearings to aid in the mapping. This data was plottted onto graph paper for later transferring onto a mylar sheet to produce a geology map. This work was undertaken in the end of August. The report was prepared in early September.
Results
Rock types - Nipissing diabase was the primary rock type underlying the stripped and trenched areas.
Veins - The veins are trending northeast and are nearly vertical in the stripped area. Two quartz calcite veins containing cobalt were exposed leading from an old pit in the north of the stripped area. The quartz calcite veins range from 5-13 cm. in area 1. Some rusty veins were also exposed in this area. Area 3 exposed a northeast trending quartz calcite vein with heavy chalcopyrite in the middle of the trench. Area 2 was trenched in order to expose any other east-west trending veins in the area but none were uncovered.
Conclusion
Further work should be carried out just south of the Bishop shaft in order to intersect a 168 metre conductor which had been delineated by an electromagnetic survey in 1966. A program of sampling and assaying should also be carried out on the exposed veins.
