Current NC DHHS Provider Guidance
Current provider guidance recommends that clinicians conduct
or arrange for diagnostic COVID-19 testing for:
• Anyone with symptoms suggestive of COVID-19
• Close contacts of known positive cases, regardless of symptoms
• Populations with higher risk of exposure or a higher risk of severe
disease if they become infected, if they believe they may have been
exposed to COVID-19, whether or not they have symptoms
• People who have attended protests, rallies, or other mass
gatherings could have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or
could have exposed others
• Testing should be considered for people who attended such events,
particularly if they were in crowds or other situations where they
couldn’t practice effective social distancing

Fluoride Varnish
• Not considered high risk or an aerosolizing
procedure and risk is more related to getting close
to a child and their secretions
• Recommend providers “should wear a surgical
mask, eye protection (goggles, protective eyewear
with solid side shields, or a full-face shield), a
gown or protective clothing, and gloves during
procedures likely to generate splashing or
spattering of blood or other body fluids”

“How to Help Kids Embrace Mask-Wearing” By Perry Klass, M.D. in The New York Times
• “Most children enjoy the chance to feel morally
superior. Assign them to be the family mask
monitors.”
• Help children who are recommended to wear them
get accustomed to masks
− Put a cloth face covering on a child’s favorite stuffed
animal
− Decorate masks so they’re more personalized
− Draw a mask on your child’s favorite book character
• Help children feel safe and proud when they wear
their masks
