@St. Martin’s

Dear friends,

These are exciting times for our Church.

This year we have welcomed multiple visi-

tors most every Sunday and have watched

over twenty new folks, adults and kids,

join our community. We have also been

blessed through this community’s faithful-

ness, creativity and passion to assemble a

Staff Team to provide ministry for all ages.

Adding Fr. Dave Mowers as our Curate,

Kyle Black as our Organist/Choirmaster

and MerLynne Byrne as our Interim Minis-

ter to Youth and Families has created a

palpable buzz at St. Martin’s by-the-Lake.

This next month provides an op-portunity for each of us to keep the ex-

citement at St. Martin’s going. As we ap-

proach this year’s Season of Stewardship,

there are two things we all need to con-

sider:

Count me in with my giving.

First, please know that in many ways our

current vitality is a marked contrast for

us. Like many smaller churches, the

Great Recession took its toll as we lived

through the repercussion of that down-

turn in the economy. We came through

that together, and your Church leadership

responded by committing to carefully live

within its means. Please be assured, that

even with growth and excitement we are

still committed to healthy and transparent

stewardship. This is also why we will

gently, graciously but honestly remind and

encourage everyone to be a joyful and

thankful giver to your Church. No matter

the amount of the pledge. Can we count

on you?

Count me in with my time.

Second, we are also aware that the culture

has shifted dramatically over the past dec-

ade or so both inside and outside the

Church. The demands of work and stress

of schedules have changed worship attend-

ance and the ability to commit time to serv-

ing in the Church. We know that busy folks

need their Church to be a place to rest and

re-charge and not just one more demand

on their full and busy lives. May we be that

place for you! At the same time, the chal-

lenge for a smaller Church community--in

the face of this cultural shift--is how we will

organize our selves for effective ministry. This is also why, fully aware of the time you

have available, we will gently, graciously but

honestly remind and encourage everyone to

joyfully and thankfully serve here in your

Church. No matter how much time you can

give. Can we count on you?

Finally, we are asking if we can count

on you. Our theme for the next month is:

CountMeIn!@ StMartin’s. Can we

count on you? Our prayer is that we will

give of our income and of our time willingly

and joyfully, as an act of worship as follow-

ers of Jesus Christ. As Holy Scripture re-

minds us: “You must each decide in your

heart how much to give. And don’t give re-

luctantly or in response to pressure. For

God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

Our Stewardship season kicks-off

with the Ingathering on Nov. 15th.

Each Sunday will see sermons tied

to our Count Me In! @ St. Martin’s

theme and a short witness from

our Vestry members at each ser-

vice. Special events during this sea-

son include our Splash Zone Arts

Children’s Production on All Saint’s

Day, Nov. 1st at the 10:30am ser-

vice, our St. Martin’s Day of service

on Nov. 14th, and the services of

St. Martin’s Day on Nov. 15th:

Day Presentation

Our SPLASH Zone kids will again

lead us in worship on All Saint’s

Day, Nov. 1st. They will be in-

volved in the 10:30am service in a

number of ways, including their All

Saint’s production in the place of

the sermon for the day. We all will

learn more about the saints, thanks

to our kids.

Navigate Youth:

Sleep out for the Homeless

On Saturday, November 7th our

youth will be spending the night in

a box city on our church grounds

in an event to raise awareness for

St. Martin’s People

The Petzold Family

Who are you?

Mark, Ashley, & Grace Petzold

Where do you live?

Plymouth

How long have you attended here?

Since November of last year (2014)

What helped you ‘Anchor’ here?

We had recently moved here from Florida

and were drawn to the wonderful sense of

community. Father Dave and the members of

the church were very welcoming. We’re ex-

cited that Grace is now also a new Acolyte!

What do you do outside of St. Martin’s?

We love to spend time outside on the lake

and golf course.

the needs of the homeless. How

can you help? Keep our youth in

your prayers, bring any large boxes

to the church office, and donate on

Sunday, November 8th as our

youth will be collecting money for

local shelters. We thank you for

your support.

St. Martin’s Day Weekend:

Day of Service!

On Saturday, November 14th, St.

Martin's will host a Day of Ser-

vice. We'll have family-friendly projects for all ages set up in the

St.. Martin’s room that will be do-

nated to those in our community

who need a helping hand, from

Sandwiches for the Homeless to

Shoebox gifts for Operation Christ-

mas Child. This is a wonderful way

to get our children thinking about

what it means to serve oth-

ers. We'll meet from 10-2 and

Lunch will be served. We hope to

see you on the 14th!

St. Martin’s Day Weekend:

Worship!

We celebrate our patron saint day

on Sunday Nov. 15th. Join us at

8:30am for Rite I Morning Prayer.

Between the two services we will

celebrate with a Festive St. Martin’s

Day Brunch at 9:30am. The week-

end concludes with a Festal Choral

Eucharist, led by our Festival Choir

under the direction of Kyle Black.

The Rev. Cindy Hillger will be our

preacher.

new seed on good soil for

future harvest.

In the coming

weeks, Music at St. Martin’s

will work on initiating a Fes-

tival Choir to continue of-

fering quality choral music

on major Feast Days and

Celebrations of the liturgical

year, at the same time con-

tinue work on establishing

an ensemble of paid soloists

to provide and build the

weekly choral support very

much needed for the contin-

ued growth of song in the

pews and the choir loft at St.

Martin’s by-the-Lake. We

are only able to take this

step thanks to the financial

generosity of a long-time

supporter of choral activities

at St. Martin’s.

All are welcome to

lend a voice to our Congre-

gational Choir that meets in

the choir loft at 9:45am on

the last Sunday of every

month, as well as make addi-

tional inquiry to how they

can contribute to the con-

tinued growth of music at St.

Martin’s. Together in Christ,

we move confidently for-

ward. —Kyle Black"

All Saints’ Day Necrology.

A Necrology is a church list

containing the names of those

connected with the church

that have died in the past year.

It is our custom to read the

Necrology at the beginning of

our All Saint’s services, on

Nov. 1st. If a loved one has

passed in the past year (Nov.

2, 2014 – present), please con-

tact the Church to have their

name added to the list.

Worship Our God

A word about our Choir

We are excited to welcome

Kyle Black as our Organist/

Choirmaster. Kyle has been

asked to share his vision for

the future of St. Martin’s by

the Lake’s Choir:

"From the formation of the

Lake Area Choir School under

the auspices of the distin-

guished organist/choirmaster

Monte Mason, to the seventy

year legacy of its weekly Parish

Choir, St. Martin’s has main-

tained a long and respected

tradition of liturgical choral

music. Music at St. Martin’s

has endless possibilities mov-

ing forward and we’re excited

to begin working with folks

new and old on setting up a

firm foundation for the future

of our program. Our regular

Parish Choir has experienced

new challenges this year with

decreased membership. To

those choir members who

have retired with Monte Ma-

son we are humbled by their

long-standing service – to

those who continue with a

servant’s heart, we give thanks

to God. Given our present

reality we are called to act,

step forward boldly, and sow
