I am assuming the following: You have already installed a SQL Server on Windows 2008 Server VM (Refer to my VM build document) You have already prepared the databases for vCenter and for vCenter Update Manager (Refer to my SQL Database installation document) You have already installed a vCenter Server VM to connect to(Refer to my vCenter Installation document) I am also assuming you have installed the above VM’s on an ESXi 5.x Server you have already setup with shared storage (or local storage)(Refer to my ESXi 5.x Installation Document) I am also assuming you have met the pre-requisites for the installation etc. You can access your vCenter Server using two clients: VI Client (the C# client) Web Client (HTML based client) In this document we will be installing the WEB Client. For the VI Client installation please refer to my Step by Step: VI Client installation document. To install the WEB Client you need to access the vCenter server url within your environment.

Step by Step: WEB Client installation

I have put together these screenshots detailing the step by step installation of WEB Client for

VMware vSphere 5.x. I am assuming the following:

• You have already installed a SQL Server on Windows 2008 Server VM (Refer to my VM build

document)

• You have already prepared the databases for vCenter and for vCenter Update Manager

(Refer to my SQL Database installation document)

• You have already installed a vCenter Server VM to connect to(Refer to my vCenter

Installation document)

• I am also assuming you have installed the above VM’s on an ESXi 5.x Server you have already

setup with shared storage (or local storage)(Refer to my ESXi 5.x Installation Document)

• I am also assuming you have met the pre-requisites for the installation etc.

You can access your vCenter Server using two clients:

• VI Client (the C# client)

• Web Client (HTML based client)

In this document we will be installing the WEB Client. For the VI Client installation please refer to my

Step by Step: VI Client installation document.

To install the WEB Client you need to access the vCenter server url within your environment.

Note that you can also access the Web Client from this url. If it is not already configured you will

receive an error similar to the one below:

We are going to install the WEB Client form the vSphere installation DVD

Take note of the ports assigned for access to the WEB Client.

Your default browser will be opened and re-directed to the WEB Client Administration site.

If you have not already installed Adobe Flash Player, you will be required to do so now.

Installing Adobe Flash Player

Once the Flash Player is installed you will need to go back to the WEB Client Administration page.

This can be accessed via the Start menu, VMware, VMware vSphere WEB Client Folder.

Alternatively you can also access the WEB Client administration website from her:

https://<vcenter server ip>:9443/admin-app

You can either use the IP address of the FQDN of the vCenter server. Please ensure DNS is fully

functional if you plan to use the FQDN.

WEB Client setup is now complete and registered to a vCenter server.

Select the server from the dropdown list. Complete the Administrator user logon credentials and

logon.

You can remove this screen by clicking in the tick box for future use.

You can now use the WEB Client to access the vCenter server environment.

Please note that the current WEB Client has its limitations. Future releases promises to be better

integrated and have better web browser support.
