The course covers the minimum training requirements outlined in the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). Basic training takes place over 5 days and comprises of 4 modules. These are: Personal Survival Techniques, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, Fire Prevention and Firefighting and Elementary First Aid. 1. STCW95 Elementary First Aid - basic, immediate, and emergency response to the most common emergencies on board, including CPR. 2. STCW95 Personal Survival course - survival suits, hypothermia, liferafts, basic actions in emergency. 3. STCW95 Elementary Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention course - types and classes of fires, prevention, hazard awareness, methods of extinguishment, structure of an incident response team, equipment, personal safety, team support, live fire exercises. 4. STCW95 Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities course - onboard emergencies, alarms and signals, initial actions, personal and protective safety equipment, effect and prevention of pollution, safe working, enclosed spaces, prevention of accidents, sexual harassment, individual rights, drug and alcohol issues, prevention of abuse. The course is delivered through a mixed mode of theory and practically based exercises. The course also comprises a supervised compulsory liferaft launch, inversion and entry as well as individual and group based swimming activities. First Aid utilises a variety of training aids. PSSR is based upon group discussion and experiential scenarios. Fire fighting utilises real smoke, breathing apparatus along with fire hoses and extinguishers in our purpose built fire fighting training facility. Candidate's competence is assessed through their active participation during the practical session.

The course covers the minimum training requirements outlined in the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).
