Age is just chronological counting, andmore so when the person concerned is afriend. The word ‘Friendship’ defies allage-ly boundaries. Of course, the pa-

Newsreels

Nupur KapoorMBA (Insurance) 2009-11

Reported: Recently AndhraPradesh’s Guntur districtreported the death of 35

women and few men who unwittinglybecame guinea pigs for a meager sumof Rs. 10,000 to what looked likeclinical trials for breast cancer drugs, culminating into a huge public outcry. The huge billion-plus population(patient pool) and cheaper costs seemsto have made the nation vulnerableand an easy target of the pharmamajors. It is startling to note that it’snot the poor illiterate ones who areignorant about this burgeoningbusiness but the educated lot seems tobe equally oblivious too. Here’s around and around on clinical trials.

What is?: It’s a known fact that when-ever any new medicine/therapy is to belaunched, it must first be tested in lab onanimal or human cell. If the results areencouraging, then it is tested on human

being in different phases in a processcalled clinical trial. Put simply it is atrial of some medicine or vaccine onhuman being to understand its efficacyand side effect.

Protocol:A protocol is a study plan onwhich all clinical trials are based. Eachclinical trial has its individual protocol, carefully designed to safeguard thehealth of the participants as well as an-swer specific research questions. A pro-tocol describes what types of peoplemay participate in the trial; the scheduleof tests, procedures, medications, anddosages; and the length of the study.

Insurance: Clinical trials bring withthem substantial risk as unavoidable ac-cidents can occur during the trial. Inspite of taking all precautions, there is areal danger of adverse reaction to thedrugs and the resulting morbidity, hencehighlighting the need for insurance.Clinical trial insurance (CTI) covers thisrisk and protects the insured against law-suits alleging death, bodily injury, prop-

erty damages, etc, as a result of an indi-vidual’s or a group’s participation in aclinical trial. Clinical Trial Liability In-surance (CTLI) basically includes - Legal liability arising out of lack of

care, negligence resulting in injury ordeath of the subject.

 Insufficient/improper disclosure and

conflict of interest may also becomesubject matter of suit.

The policy may also cover- Property damage (along with bodily

injury) Personal injury Advertising injury -Caused to a re-

search subject by the research sub-

ject’s participation in a trial com-mencing within the Policy Period

Legal expenses also covered. Territorial limit is prescribed in the

policy.

Things to know: The policy can be single trial policy

or it may be multi-trial policy cover-ing several trials of the policyholder

The policy is on “Claim made” basis.Cover can be extended for post trialliabilities upto 60 months.

For the purpose of rating, look intothe track record of the sponsoringcompany and others involved in con-ducting the trial

The company must establish andmaintain a policy of adherence to therequired clinical trials protocol andmust not stray from safety norms.

Fulfillment of informed consent rulesmust be ensured. Parties to theclinical trial must sign clinical trialagreement for adherence to the protocol and to take care of otherconcerns. G T

You might not be able tobuy that exotic breed ofpet that you have beeneyeing for long, if the re-cent news on sale of pets

is to be believed/ into effect.San Francisco has announced 'HumanePet Acquisition Proposal,' a ban on thesale of any animals as pets in the city. The proposed ban includes every type ofpet and aims to encourage the adoption

of animals from shelters or other rescueorganizations instead of buying themfrom pet shops and breeders.Animal activists have a reason to rejoiceas they believe this would put an end tothe commodification of pet and hencekeep a tab on animal trafficking. Thisbrings us to the moot question- Doesbuying and selling of pets amount toanimal trafficking and slave trade? Here’s what Amitian’s, have to say aboutsuch a move in India in the light of theabove statement:

“Banning the buy-ing and selling ofpets is never a so-lution. For starters,it doesn’t guaran-tee the dis-aban-donment of street

animals (might even increase it?).Further, a ban on pet sales (similar tothat on drugs) would just push the in-dustry underground, leading toMORE massive animal abuse, of any-thing with fur or feather. And in casethe ban occurs, the animals wouldjust be exported to a faraway landwhere again overpopulation wouldlead to euthanasia of the innocentcreatures! This would especially bethe case in a country like India, where pet shop owners would resortto such "jugaad", not wanting to losetheir businesses.”

Medhavi Arora, XII D, AISN

“Human beingssimply don’t seemto understand theworth of life! Wekill our own kind,so animals justseem to be another

insignificant form of life that exists! These words may seem very blunt, but that is what I see around me.Trafficking of any form of life be ithumans or animals for vested mone-tary interests should certainly not beallowed. Pet animals in many houseshave to even bear the brunt of theowner’s frustration! The trade in exotic animals is also notuncommon and we need to put a fullstop to it. NOW! Therefore, Istrongly support any legislation thatbans the trade in LIFE, that bans thetrafficking of animals.”

Bhuvan Ravindran, XI B, AISNG T

Bringing home a new pet and more so anexotic pet, requires burning big holes in thepocket; the recent law suggests otherwise

Clinical trials from miceto men and the array ofconsequent medicinalinventions are known tobe a boon to mankind. It’s high time to take alook at the bane too.

The word ‘forensic’ comes from aLatin word forensis which means‘before the forum’ and so defines

the profession of ‘Forensic science’. It’snot just about studying samples and in-vestigating the criminals; the professioncomes with rainbow dimensions includ-ing investigating, social, enterprisingand realistic characteristics too. TheGlobal Times with Amity Institute ofAdvanced Forensic Science Research &Training (AIAFSR) presents anoverview of the sought after optionswhen students proceed from campus tooffice. Happy Scientific Sleuthing!!

Medical ExaminerAre you torn between a career in medi-cine or law? Why don’t you combineboth and become a medical examiner. Asa medical examiner you’ll work withphysicians and law experts to rule adeath as accidental, natural, suicide orhomicide. The profession gives you an immense

satisfaction of simultaneously being amedicine and law expert which is differ-ent from other professions in Forensics. The scope is basically limited to post

mortems which may be frustrating attimes. It is the highest paying profession

among the available options in forensics.

Forensic odontologistThey generally are dentists who practiceas consultants rather than as full-timeforensic scientists. They use their ex-pertise to help identify unknown remainsand trace bite marks of a specific indi-vidual.

If you don’t have flair for solvingmysteries you can also be a dental hy-gienist and working with a forensicodontologist. The profession serves an overlap be-

tween dental and legal professions andhence hampers the demand for forensicodontologist. Though the average salary varies

from employer to employer but gener-ally they are well paid and there are noodd working hours.

Crime Laboratory AnalystSince forensic science is used to helplaw enforcement officials solve crimes, crime lab analysts often work as part ofan investigative team. Duties includecollecting crime scene evidence, testingand reporting on that evidence, testify-ing in a court of law on your findings. You will generally have to work in-

doors and there are relatively clean sam-ples and stable work hours.Work as a crime lab analyst may be-

come repetitive, so figure out if routineis something you can deal with or not.Evolution of modern investigative

techniques has made the work easier andorganized for crime laboratory analysts. The pay at entry level is certainly lessbut with certain years of experience onecan set up their own laboratory.

Forensic EngineerWhen a product fails, forensic engineer-ing comes into play. Forensic engineersprove or disprove that a product’s failureled to accidents, injuries, and other is-sues that can lead to lawsuits. You willdeal with traffic accidents, fire investi-gations, and other wrongful injury cases. This sector is popular for job scope

and comparatively better working hours. Scope of forensic engineering is very

limited in India which may be concernfor the ones who can’t shift abroad. The average salary is almost equal to

what engineers from other streams get. However, forensic engineers can earnextra income by taking certain casesapart from their job.

Crime Scene ExaminerThey are supposed to work wheneverand wherever crime occurs, indoors oroutdoors, day or night and have to beadept enough to deal with dead bodiesand other messy situations. There are no fixed hours and hence

can be good option for those who don’tprefer working under time boundations.

The intellectual challenge is stillthere and the scientific basis of the fieldis developing. The pay is not great but few folks vol-

untarily leave crime scene section forother duties.G T

“One needs to work absolutely error proof as asingle mistake can spoil many lives. Whateversector a Forensic science student chooses, requires expertise apart from knowledge andproper training. Unlike other professions there isvery less scope of learning on field.”

Dr. P.K. Chattopadhyay, Director, AIAFSR

The students of forensic science often get confused with the algebra of the suitable ca-reer options for them. Here is a sneak peak at some of the equations of available options

Take a quick look at the calendarof your computer and run a com-parative analysis between the cal-endar of years 2005 and 2011respectively. Not only will you ob-serve both starting with the samedate and day, but all the days anddates till December running thesame. That’s not all… another rev-elation is that in the last 90 yearsthe calendar was repeated 11 timesstarting from 1920, 1927, 1938,1949, 1955, 1966, 1977, 1983,1994, 2005 and now in 2011. Thesame calendar will be seen againin 2022. If you still think its all acoincidence, here is a logical ex-planation for the same. Calendars repeat in a regularcycle, at least within a century. Everyyear the day for any given date advancesone day as a rule of thumb. That’s be-cause there are normally 365 days in theyear and 364 divided by 7 (364/7=52),making one normal year comprising of52 weeks and 1 day. So, for instanceif your birthday is on a Monday in oneyear, it will be on a Tuesday the next

year, unless there is a February 29th inbetween, then it will be on a Wednesday, advancing 2 days instead of 1. This sim-ply means that in leap years the calendaradvances by 2 days while in non leapyears it advances only by 1 day.

Know when Calendars repeat:Here is a step by step pattern to deter-

mine “when” calendars repeat with thesame day/date combinations: Define any year as one of four things:a “leap year”, the “1st year after a leapyear”, the “2nd year after a leap year”,or the “3rd year after a leap year”. Add 28 to a “leap year” to get thenext year that it will repeat. Similarlyadd 6 to the “1st year after a leap year”,

add 11 to “2nd year after a leapyear”, also add 11 to “3rd yearafter a leap year” to get the nextyear they repeat.Ex: 2008 was a leap year. Thismeans 2010 is the 2nd yr after aleap year. Add 11 to the 2010 i.e2010 + 11 = 2021(the year inwhich the same calendar will re-peat). Similarly 2011 repeats in2022 (i.e 2011+11), 2012 repeatsin 2040 (i.e 2012+28) and so on.

How often calendars repeat: Any leap year calendar willrepeat in exactly the same wayevery 28 years. Any “1st year after a leapyear” will repeat in a 6-11-11cycle, ie, it will repeat in 6 years, then come up again in 11 years,

come up again in 11 more years. Both “2nd year after a leap year” and“3rd year after a leap year” will repeatin an 11-11-6 cycle.Notice the patternsinvolve 6, 11, and 28. The cycles of 6-11-11 and 11-11-6 add to 28. This combination results in a sequenceof repeated calendars in a 28-year cycle. So, you got it or still counting? G T

Continued from page 1Describe your transition from a middleorder batsman to a commentator? Do youmiss being in the middle of the action? No not at all actually. It was tough to adaptinitially. As I said, it’s a different career anda different lifestyle. It meant a less strenuousschedule and more time at home. I believeit’s important to do well in the second or cli-max half of your career. I worked harder, performed better and enjoyed the laurels as Iadapted to my new lifestyle.

Future of Cricket

Your take on the new T20 avatar?Well I think it’s great for the game. The gameneeds to evolve and I think it’s great with theIPL and everything. The game has changedwith powerplays and limited bouncers. Newplayers and good opportunity but we shouldnot overdo it which I think we currently are.

Do you agree that ‘sledging’ is a commonpractice in cricket or sports in general?Sledging is worse in club matches than incountry matches. There are over 28 camerasin an international cricket match. You can’tpossibly say anything to anyone. Australiansare often blamed for introducing and pro-moting sledging but more Indians getcharged for it than us.

What is your advice to the youngsters whowish to pursue cricket as their career?Make cricket your lifestyle. Don’t do any-thing that stands in the way of you and yourdream. Remember that you are a professionalathlete and you need to work hard. Also havea mentor and place your trust in him. You got

to simply Live it, breathe it.

Trivia

How does it feel when someone is battingon 99* and a fast ball comes to him? Thissurely must have happened to you also?100 is a milestone which is made by someone.I try and not think about the score I’m on andjust try and focus on the ball. I am not think-ing about the one run but about how manyruns can I score. Yes, but there is a little bit ofnervousness when I am on 99.

What do you do in your free time?Sports is in my DNA now. I play golf thesedays and also go for fishing often. I like tospend time with my family and travel allaround the world. I love India and have beenhere exactly 100 times. (It is interesting to hear him describe his lovefor the country and how he enjoys travellingaround the world.)

What inspires you to do charity? My godmother was suffering from cancer. Sheunderwent two operations and survived. Thatspurred me to donate towards the people suf-fering from cancer. I have community lunchesand do walks to raise funds.

How did you feel when India beat Australiain the World Cup?Nothing. In fact, in Australia, the most playedsport is Netball, followed by Australian soc-cer. Cricket comes third. We just shrug it offwhen we lose. We won three world cups. Ithad to end some time. (We all get consumed as he explains howAllan Border set very high standards for allthe players and how it is being a kid thesedays with all the distractions. The excited Mus-keteers finally move to their favourite part andtake autographs and pictures).

Authentic Chinese cuisine is asure shot rarity in this subconti-nent which makes its own vari-

ety of it, namely Indo-chinese cuisine.(Eg. Extra soy sauce in Manchurianchicken) But seasoned gourmets whohave knowledge of this realm, wouldn’thave any problem confirming thatoriginal Chinese cuisine is certainlyavailable in Mandarin Express. So,you and me... let’s take a trip to theculinary delights of China awayfrom China.

AURALocated in the midst of the hetero-geneous and buzzing food court ofCentrestage Mall, Noida (CSM- Centrefor Suicidal Mannerisms!), MandarinExpress portrays a traditional yet con-temporary mix of Chinese decorations(arey chill.. bus.. golden and red kamix-ture!). Soft music in the backgroundmakes the effect more relaxing. This ap-propriate location which is sensibly se-cluded and yet suitably attached (to theother parts of the mall), is good enoughto make a cozy couple feel comfortablewithout apprehensions.

TINGLING TASTESThis restaurant is especially known forits two signature dishes apart from a re-ally mouth watering arsenal of Chinesedishes at your disposal.

CRISPEE CONJEE LAMBInch cut pieces of delicious soft lambfried with colourful bellpeppers andsweet and tangy honey sauce and soysauce background. A treat to a gourmet’staste palate.. yummy… juicy.. with aright blend of spice and sweetness. Justdig in and you will end up licking your

fingers. You will find the fork simplyeasing through the pieces which meltand disintegrate giving you mouth wa-tering bliss. RATING – 15/10

CHILLY POTATOESA plateful of fried potatoes dipped inhoney chilly sauce and smeared with hotgreen chillies and pan fried green veg-gies. Fried potatoes, everybody’sfavourite but in this form, is simply notrefusable and totally unputdownable (iebefore the plate gets clean wiped). Thepotatoes are cut just right so that onepiece can adequately fit in the cavern ofyour mouth. Just go… what are youwaiting for? RATING – 8.5/10

MANDARIN DUCKS (err..the staff)A restaurant is never complete withouthospitable staff members. The staff hereare prim and proper in an all black uni-form ready to give their best. They arefully committed to provide us with an-swers even to our stringent and persua-

sive questions with an ever smiling face, the true backbone of this authentic Chinese repertoire.

SIZZLING BYTES“It is an enriching experience workinghere. The recipes are sheer bliss to thetaste-buds of our customers. We largelycater to the young crowd keeping inmind their fetish for authentic Chinesefood.” Rajiv (Shift Manager)“Working here ensures constant learn-ing. My colleagues are very co-orpera-tive, organised and professional. Thishas added to my rich and satisfying ex-perience of working here.”

Scene 1- Two’s company, three’scrowd: The two of you have beenbosom buddies, when a third person en-ters the scene. You want to make thenew one comfortable, spend time withhim/her and go out of the way to easethings up. But your old friend cries foul, sulks and goes into cold war zone. The goof-up:Your old buddy is proba-bly anxious about the presence of thenew member who seems to have be-come your new centre of attention, leav-ing him/her in the cold. Tip: When two friends have been to-gether for a long while, both tend totake each other for granted. While, ittakes a long time to build such relation-ships, a minor mistake can screw things

up. Having a new friend is exciting, butcare should be taken not to overindulgein the new friendship at the cost of the

old one. Talk things out openly withyour oldest pal. Chances are, it is just amisconception. Take extra care to in-

clude both your friends in the conversa-tion or activity. Plan group activities onweekends that all of you enjoy. Con-tinue doing everything that you used todo before the third member’s entry.

Scene 2- Chinese whispers: You con-fide your innermost feelings to yourbest friend, and the next thing you knowis the entire class talking about it. Whatfollows is obvious, a torrent of name-calling and abuses, as you feel betrayed. The goof-up: Your friend did not real-ize the repercussions of letting the catout of the bag. For all practical pur-poses, his/her intention was only to gar-ner support for you in the crisis that youare going through. However, the effortsbacktracked.Tip: Explain to your friend that there

are certain things which are not meantfor public knowledge. Had you beencomfortable about others knowingabout it, you yourself would have toldthem. Your friend needs to be matureand apologise for her/his behaviour. Atthe same time, accept that your friend-ship is not so shallow, that it can breakup over such an issue. G T

Dear Editor,It is abundantly clear that our educationsystem is going down the wrong road, after DU raised its cut offs to 100% thisyear (Dreamswaitlisted, Monday,July 18,2011). Thedreams of thousandsof students, now hangin a balance. Itshouldn’t be a surpriseif students tomorrow, becomebookworms, running aimlessly in a ratrace. It is time, students along withteachers realize the importance of an allround personality; that personality thatwill lead our country tomorrow.

Friendship knows noboundaries. It is all about

fostering new relations, nur-turing them and standing byeach other in the hour ofneed. India has always beenan ardent follower of thispolicy. It has always strived to es-

tablish friendly ties with all its neighbours. It hasnot only initiated steps to further its relationswith its neighbours but also extended a hand offriendship to all its global partners. It has notshied away from offering an olive branch toPakistan despite the 26/11 tragedy. The invitation to Pakistani Prime Minister towitness the historic match between India andPakistan is clearly indicative of its intent to re-store peace. The way India is helpingAfghanistan in rebuilding its economy showshow committed it is in taking its strategic part-nership forward to a next level. We, at Amity, also believe in forging new ties. The innumerable visits organized by Amity tooffshore countries, cultural exchange pro-grammes and educational tie ups with foreignvarsities are indicative of our belief in the prin-ciple of ‘Vasudev Kuttambakam’.We believe innurturing global citizens. Amity InternationalModel United Nations (AIMUN) organized in2010 on a large scale, shows how much stresswe lay on encouraging friendship amongst chil-dren from across the borders and understand is-sues afflicting them. FRIENDS ring a sweet bellin every soul. And when it

is Friendship Day round thecorner, all that we all look for-ward is to read more about thisrelationship. The sweet and short word –FRIENDS holds within it peo-ple of all age groups, real and

virtual, across boundaries, animate or inanimatethat we love to experience and share. The beautyof this relationship is so pure that we tend tosearch for it in every bonding...be it betweenspouses, father and son, teacher and student oramongst colleagues. The innate reason stemsfrom the basic desire to make this relationshipcomplete, evolving and enriching. Poets, philosophers and even FRIENDS have at-tempted to define this term and unique bond, andwe almost surrender to every feeling in thosewords effortlessly. One such effort to define thisrelationship that I particularly like is by KahlilGibran…“And let your best be for your friend. If hemust know the ebb of your tide, let him knowthe flood also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness. And in the sweetness of friendshiplet there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.”This Friendship Day, take a step forward to dis-cover the new friend in you and experience awhole new world. To Me,My Friend Victory for some,

irreparable loss for others World Cup celebrations in Gurgaon proved disastrous for some poor slum dwellers

Kaveri Modayil, X, AIS PV

Don’t we all have that onebest friend to which we cancry our heart out? Don’t we

all have that one chuddy-buddy towhom we can confide everything?Don’t we all feel that sometimes, ourBest Friends Forever (BFFs) knowus more than we know ourselves? My experiences with my BFF can bebest described beyond the word‘Amazing’. She’s smart and sensi-ble, and knows what to say and whento say the right thing. She gets toknow first if something is wrongwith me, how hard I might try tohide it. At times, she understands myfeelings more precisely than mymother and guides me what to do.She has the courage to actually tellme what’s right and wrong for meand also point out any alteration inmy behaviour. She keeps megrounded when I tend to fly off han-dle and get overly ‘dramatic’. Thankyou BFF for being there to share my

turbulent past. And here’s a little advice for allthose of you who doubt their BFF:Just Stop doing that. She might nottalk to you for a day or two; shemight chat with some other girl, whom you’ve never really seen herout with. I know it sparks and trig-gers feeling of jealousy and perhapspossessiveness; but always remem-ber that she is human as well. Somake her feel special, even though itmight require sending e- mails, get-ting a huge birthday card or evensouvenirs from latest trip. Anythingwhich can make her feel special orlike a beloved sister.Lastly, don’t ever forget to listen toher. Whatever she says is pretty im-portant and about 99.9% of the timetrue. Those 0.1% of the times whenshe goes wrong, does so not makeher a stranger. My dear BFF: I prom-ise to uphold everything you tell me. So friends do not shy away from let-ting your BFFs know how importantthey are in your life. .G T

Urvashi Singh, V B, AIS Gur-46

As India was busy rejoicing theWorld Cup victory over SriLanka in April 2011, some-

where in a quaint corner in the sleepingtownship of Gurgaon, a family wasmourning the loss of their small hutwhich they once called home. The house belonged to none other than“Rakhi aunty”, my maid who strives re-ally hard to make two ends meet. Rakhiaunty is like a motherly figure to mewho helps me get dressed for school, prepares food for me and helps mymother with all her household chores. Asleep after a tiring day, she rose in themiddle of night only to discover that herhut had gone up in flames. Her hut,

which used to shelter her from extremeweather, was reduced to ashes after aburning splinter from the fire crackersburst by some revelers fell on her hut.The house which she had set up work-ing tirelessly from morning to eveningwas destroyed in a matter of few min-utes. Teary eyed she recalled the dayswhen she had toiled day and night tosave money to build it. I was deeplymoved when she got nostalgic recollect-ing the time when she used to rush hometo repair a leaking roof or remove herwares when rain used to flood her house.Although, we cannot do anything to re-duce her loss, we can promise to be a lit-tle more responsible and ensure thatunknowingly we do not cause harm topeople fighting odds in life.G T

Vishrutyi Sahni : She is my 4am friend becauseFirstly, she's always up at 4 am.Secondly, she is crazy, and has the craziest solutions to all my4am problems, which somehow end up being perfect.Thirdly, she knows me inside out, so calling anybody else, seems impractical and wasteful.Lastly, 4 am or 6 am, she will go out of her way to help me when Iam in crisis and she knows I'll do the same for her!

Aishwarya Srivastava : Firstly, she will only end up calling me by4 am because it will take her that long for her to realize she needs totalk to someone about it.Secondly, I will end up only calling her by 4 am because it will take methat long to realize that I have a problem.Thirdly, she is the only one who will listen to my jibber-jabber, patientlyeven at 4 am, when she's half asleep, but still come out with an extremelylogical explanation, reason and solution for everything.Lastly, nobody in the world knows me like she does, so I don't ever thinktwice before I give her a call at 4am or 5am.

WORK IN PROGRESS9 to 6 can be a fun time slot when your best bud is in theprofessional vicinity. Meet friends@work - Namita Rastogi, Coordinator, AISNoida & Shaili Kapoor, Teacher, AIS Noida

Namita Rastogi : Friendship never has and never will come inthe way of work. We both know our duties and have performedthem well. We joined Amity together in 1991and have been apart of the same organization for 20 years. We are sisters ratherthan co-workers or friends. We share everything, even if it isextremely personal. I share things with her that I would noteven share with my sister. She accepts you the way you are.

Shaili Kapoor: What we share is more than friendship. Wehave never fought till date, not even once. We are one andthink alike. There were situations, when we both applied forthe same job and that is something that she does not knowtill date. And I know she would have done exactly the samething. Our relationship is very mature and evolved. If weare not together, others around us feel bad. People are soused to seeing us together. Shweta Ahluwalia : My relationship with Simran isbeyond friendship. She is more than a friend, she is asoulmate. She understands if something is wrong withoutme having to say it. I cant recall when she was not myfriend. Every moment that I have spent with her is morethan golden. After marriage, everything was topsy turvysince everything around me changed. It was her that keptme going. At times, I have to be a little strict with her.Since I am the one who is slightly more experienced, I canobjectively tell her what is wrong or right. I have beenthere and made a few mistakes so I can keep her awayfrom making the same ones

Once upon a time, there lived anold lion in a dense forest. Hehad become very weak and was

not able to catch any prey. One daywhile roaming in the forest he came neara cave. The lion thought, “This is a niceplace to stay. Moreover, maybe thisplace is owned by some animal. Let mehide in the dark cave. When that animalcomes, I will kill it and eat it up.”The lion went inside the cave and hid inone dark corner of the cave. The cavebelonged to a clever jackal. In theevening when he returned to his cave, hesaw the marks of the lion’s paws. Themarks signified that a lion had gone in-side the cave but there were no marksshowing that he came out. The jackalreached the conclusion that a lion mustbe hiding in the cave. The jackal thought of a plan. He stoodnear the mouth of the cave and shouted,“Dear cave, why are so silent today?

Daily you welcome me so heartily. Isanything wrong? Please talk to me.” No answer came from inside. The jackalkept on talking with the cave. When thelion heard the jackal’s words, hethought, “May be this is an answeringcave. Why is this cave not answering thejackal? I must answer, otherwise thejackal will never enter the cave.”

So, the lion roared, “Sorry for being late.Welcome, dear friend. Come in, there isno danger here.” As soon as he said so,the jackal was confirmed about the lion’spresence in the cave. He fled away fromthe spot. The lion lost his prey becauseof his foolishness.Moral: Intelligence is better thenstrength. G T

The world ofmy dreams

Riya Singh V-A, AIS Saket

The world of my dreams,it neither had any chocolates, nor ice creams.

It had homes green bricked. And of course,it did not have any person wicked.

In my world there was no person whowas non vegetarian. And it had all kinds of tigers,Sumatran or Siberian. It was the world I love,

It had all kinds of birdspeacock or dove.

It was the world where every childwas educated,And corruption was the only thingwhich people hated. It was the world where politicianswere banned,And no police case was passed handto hand.

Of course the world was not true, but why don’t we try to do our partto spread colours in the worldsaffron, green with blue.See the world you live inand imagine the world which in myeyes came,Don’t you think changing the worldis a true Indian’s aim?

Aman Rai, III C, AIS Noida

Today India is a great part of theworld. It has many industries, textiles, finecarvings, buildings, temples, etc.Tourists from all around the worldcome to India to travel to beautifulmonuments like Taj Mahal, Red Fort,Qutub Minar, etc.Tourists are our guests and we shouldnot make fun of our country. We should make our country proudin the sight of guests. Some careless people of our nationbring our country shame. They throw all garbage out on theroads. Some people spit on the roads andthey do toilet and all this without a bit of shame Now choice is yours, to makeyour nation great or a matter of shame in the sight of our guests! G T

DabanggTitle track: “Hurr hurr dabang”

No matter what prob-lems come there way,the confidence of Ami-tians helps them sailthrough. Fearless war-riors- ‘The dabang’ at-

titude is embedded deep within us. ‘Jodar gaya samjho mar gaya’(nobody fol-lows action man Akshay Kumar’smantra more than us!) I guess we caneasily give his beauties in the show a runfor their money. Can’t we?

Executive DecisionsTitle Track: “Born to be a leader”

‘Monitors’ in schooltransform into ‘ClassRepresentatives’ in col-lege……just a more re-fined and matureversion of a leader.

Every tiff in class or any official respon-sibility is referred to the CR (aajkalshort forms ka zamaana hai!). Just per-form a show of slightly undisciplinedacts and the ‘predictable’ question askedis ‘Who is CR of the class?’ Sometimes, the whole CR business may be a littleexhausting, but with leadership comesresponsibility. Right, CRs?

Fashion Title Track ‘s’:“Ooh! is my kaajalok?” “I need footwear to go with mydesigner dress” “Dude can I borrowyour new shirt?”

We often use theselines amongst our ‘welldressed gang.’ Blameour age for wanting tolook oh-so-prim-and-proper (read hot) 24*7.

Our world revolves around latest trendsand the new collection in our pet shops

(or should I say designer showrooms?)Oh! We are equally cool with cheap yettrendy stuff from flea markets. Be it thecollection of nice formals for the classesor stylish dresses for the fests, Amitians’fashion quotient is always high.

Ink HeartTitle Track : “Padhaku…tune tohchaap diya”

Every class has fewyoung living typewrit-ers (some of the ge-niuses and toppers areborn from this breed ofyoung guns). Their

mates sometimes envy them, sometimeshate them and sometimes just plain ig-nore them. As soon as the lecturer openstheir mouth to speak, their pens startmoving (Dear pen...our sympathies).Guess, they truly believe that ‘Goldenwords’ are never repeated. But one un-ignorable fact is that they are the shiningacademic stars and of course a saviourfor the ‘not-so-interested-in-studies’.

Dill Chahta HaiTitle track: “Agar kisi cheez ko dil sechaho toh poori kayanath usey tumsemilane mein lag jaati hai”

These lines echo thesentiments of Ami-tians, be it students orteachers. We dream(daydreaming in-cluded) and believe in

them too. Yes, we do aim for that hotchic/guy and of course high marks too.And in most cases, our conviction getsus what we want.

Om Shanti OmTitle Track: “Panditon ki Shraddha”

Spirituality is the inthing when you are atAmity. Be it the dailyhawans or the behav-ioural science classes,Amity’s spiritual mind-

set is the echoing undertone. But nobody is complaining…as wenever knew intervention of the divinecan be so fulfilling. The spiritual tangentis a welcome change from the orthodoxconcept of reading school printed textsof ‘Gyaan’ known as moral science.

Jo jeeta wohi sikander Title Track : “99% marks laoge tohghadi warna chadi” and “Excellenceke peecho bhaago success apne aapjhak maar kar peeche aayegi”

Both the statements re-flect competition but indifferent lights. We atAmity strive to achievewhat is echoed by thesecond statement. Stu-

dents enter the campus as a raw, un-tapped talent and it is here at Amity, where our talent is recognized, nurturedand moulded in different spheres for acontent future. At Amity, we all our win-ners in our way, in our own aspects.Amity has given us sunshine, rain and ofcourse a chance to grow up once again

with more passion and values.

LakshyaTitle Track: “Ist day of on-campusplacements! ”

This is a common state-ment repeated by manyof us during placementtime in college. Stu-dents preparing nightlong for their written

exams and GDPI (itna toh college examske liye bhi nahi padha hoga!) The more‘dedicated and serious’ ones preparing tillthe wee hours of the morning to achievetheir ‘lakshya’.. Students’ dressed in theirbest formal attires is a usual sighting atthis time. Canteens, hangout places andcorridors abuzz with students askingquestions like ‘How was it?’ and ‘Whatis the package?’ and learning the nuancesof facing an interview from each other butno doubts that the final test of a student’slife is passed with flying colours everyyear.

With it’s diverse cul-tural atmosphere, Ami-tians earn lifelongfriends out here. It istruly said that oneforms ‘Friends Forever’

bonds in college. Hanging out with

friends, watching movies, gossipingabout anything and everything rangingfrom movie stars to the new ‘girl’ or‘guy’ in college (oye hoye!), playingpranks on each other and then laughingour heads off, arguing on the silliest ofthings and much more which makes upfor eternal memories with friends in col-lege. Don’t you agree with me that wehave got a bunch of ‘pakke waale’friends at Amity? Of course, you do!G T
