Welcome back to a new year. Hopefully we will be together again in the near future. In light of the current obstacles we have all been facing in the last few months, let’s pause and share with each other, listen, learn, and figure out where to go from here! Taking time to support your own health and well-being will help ensure you have the energy (and confidence) to do more of the things you love, with and for the people you love. The Board continues to meet virtually. We are striving to do a large group Zoom Meeting on September 15th. Hopefully many of our members will join us. We have missed seeing you. For now our Luncheons are cancelled. Perhaps by January or March we will be allowed to gather again. Information will be forthcoming. CalRTA needs to grow to be a strong voice for educators. Please encourage other teachers you know to join or renew their CalRTA Memberships. We received 107 new members from the Elk Grove Unified School District. We are very grateful to Elk Grove for supporting CalRTA. State Capital Division 5 received the Lenny Escarda Memorial Award for Membership.

Welcoming Our New Members, From Elk Grove USD
Scholarship News Pennie Taylor
Retired teachers persist and carry-on, even in the midst of worldwide health and economic crises. We are all "learning as we go;" about science, data, the virus, and how to con-
nect with students, families, and each other. In late May 2020, we were able to award 5 Scholarships to incredible students studying to become future teachers. These students were announced in our June newsletter. If you would like to read their heartfelt, online "thank you letters," please email or phone me. We are still waiting to hear from the panel at CSU Sacramento on the selection of our 2 Sac State, Dolores Toto Scholarship winners. We are unable to have our fun, in-person raffles to raise scholarship funds at this
time. But if you would like to make a donation of any size, please mail checks made out to "CalRTA Div. 5" to our treasurers, Sharon and Clark Swanson, 2121
Aiken Way, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762-9568. We truly appreciate your thoughtful-ness and generosity. The Scholarship Committee and Education of Future Teachers will carry-on!!

I did it!! You can do it!!
A QR code is a special graphic that can be scanned by most smartphones. QR codes only can be scanned on
printed material, not on computers.
On your smart phone you need to download a QR reader from the app store. There are several. If you have an iphone, get one that says for iphone. Download app.
Now you’re ready to scan! Open QR reader. Put phone over code and it automatically sans. Once scanned, tape blue link and your phone opens to the location and displays it on your screen.
Let’s try on the next topic!
Answers are here! Here’s where any CalRTA member can seek and get answers to questions ranging from registration for events to division website updating, and from discounts on See’s Candies to how to handle spam email. From Chuck Denonn, Area III Director’s report
What is really important is at this time our elected officials hear from us. We need your help to do TWO things in this fight. First, if you have not signed the petition for repeal, please go to: https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/elimination-of-the-unfair The petition has over 63,000 signatures.
Second, each Tuesday continuing in September, our GRC (Government Relations Committee) will send out Take Action Tuesday, a Legislative Alert. We ask that you and your Division members email those messages to the list of legislators attached to the email. All you have to do is sign your name. It takes less than 10 minutes to make your voice heard.
