Gwin has a School population of 580 studentsThe ESL population consists of 106 students 76 students speak Spanish72 of the 76 are from MexicoOur school is raising efforts to better support

the educational and social needs of the hispanic population at our school and in our community-Family Day, International Day, Math Night

Los dos objetivos

To gain proficiency in the Spanish language in order to build stronger relationships with the parents of my hispanic students.

To experience Mexican culture first hand in order to promote pride in cultural heritage.

Objectives Obtained

Upon return, I was able to immediately connect with the families.

Daily, I am able to use my hands-on cultural experience with my students.

I am far from fluent, in fact, I speak broken Spanish, but I believe my efforts in learning Spanish and the experience that STAR gave me speaks louder than words.

I came back from Mexico with a renewed and refined purpose and an even greater passion for working with the families of our ESL students.
