ST WILFRIDS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 19th June 2020 No 33 Theme of the Week ahead - The Great Commission Matthew 28:16-20 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.Reflection and Prayer When we are young children, if something exciting happens or we learn something new which we find to be wonderful we usually want to run and tell people were close to. We dont keep knowledge to ourselves and we dont stop to question why something inspires us. As we get older theres the temptation to stop showing this excitement and to try and be more serious. Throughout Jesustime of teaching he told his disciples that to get into the kingdom of Heaven they should be like children. The disciples succeed in being like children again after Jesus speaks to them for the last time. He tells them to go out to the world, share the Gospel and Baptise other people. When theyre filled with the Holy Spirit, they do just that. They run out into the world and will tell anyone that will listen about the amazing things they have seen. We should try to be more like little children and continue to see the amazing things in the world and share them with others. Sixth Form News

We are pleased to announce the inaugural remote Sixth Form Taster Week on the 6th- 10th July. We are conscious that we are unable to offer the typical taster day by bringing Year 11 students into school to sample sixth form life. Instead, we are planning a remote, online-based week of sessions, using the Microsoft Teams platform.

During the week, students will be invited to remote sessions with teachers of A Level subjects and to session on other aspects of sixth form life. We are excited to offer sessions on:

Subject Taster – each A Level will deliver a short taster of their subject, including a questions and answer sessions in most cases

Summer Project Launch – some subjects are using this platform to launch a summer project for students to help them to prepare for September and the start of their A Levels

An Introduction to Sixth Form Life

Pastoral Support and Enrichment Opportunities at St Wilfrid’s, including a live Q and A

The Apprenticeship Route – a session on the opportunities on offer from apprenticeship providers

Progression to Higher Education – the Go Higher UniConnect team will lead a session on the university opportunities and how to get them

We are delighted that so many of our Year 11s are planning to return to us in September. We have enjoyed speaking to you on the telephone in recent weeks. We hope you are able to join us and are looking forward to welcoming you to these online events. Please look out for further details in the coming weeks.
