Principal’s NewsSt. Simon the Apostle Catholic School
“Open Our Hearts, Lord”This month we have begun to focus on Manners. Manners encompass more than just our “please’s” and “thank you’s”. It takes into consideration other people’s feelings. We will begin giving the students a challenge each week in which they can practice the virtue of the month in concrete ways. Please ask your children what these challenges are so they can also practice them at home and share their experiences with you from their day.
This week eighth grade and first grade led us in a school-wide living rosary. They did a wonderful job leading our school community in this prayer from our Blessed Mother. It is an awesome way for all present to honor Mary during this month of October.
Last week our Student Ambassadors attended a workshop with ambassadors from other Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese. They represented St. Simon School with great enthusiasm and dignity. This was a half-day workshop on what it means and how to be an ambassador for our school.

CRE NEWSOn Monday, we will be taking our 7th & 8th graders to view the remains of St. Maria Goretti, the youngest saint canonized by the Roman Catholic Church. “Revered as a model of mercy, St. Maria Goretti, an 11-year old Italian girl stabbed to death while resisting a sexual assault in 1902, is believed to have forgiven her killer and appeared to him later in prison as an apparition, inspiring his conversion.” We will also tour Our Lady of Snows, one of the largest outdoor shrines in North America. The Shrine provides an atmosphere where people of all faiths have the opportunity to deepen their relationship with God and one another. This is a special field trip for our 7th & 8th grade students.
STUCO is preparing for our annual St.Simon Carnival celebrating the Feast of St. Simon on Wednesday, October 28. A flyer is attached to this newsletter with details of the Carnival.
Pumpkin Contest - This week all students will receive blank paper pumpkins to decorate. One paper pumpkin will be chosen from each classroom. The winners will be given a real pumpkin to decorate. The entire school will vote on the pumpkins with a winner from each grade level. The winners will be announced on Thursday, October 29.
We are in the process of putting together our Book of Remembrance. You child will bring home a sheet for the Book of Remembrance. You will be able to list loved ones that you wish to remember. It is a beautiful way for us to remember that our souls live on. Always remember to keep loved ones in your prayers. We celebrate the feast of All Souls on November 2. I will be giving you more information about this special feast day.
