We celebrate the fullness of Jesus. We celebrate His presence in true form: Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity all contained in what was a piece of bread and a cup of wine, transformed by the power of prayer. We end our Eucharistic celebration this weekend with Benediction and a short procession. As you receive the blessing with the consecrated Host in the monstrance remember there is a reason the priest does not say “May Almighty God bless you in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit… You are being blessed by Jesus himself… fully alive fully present in the consecrated Host. It is my prayer that sometime during the week you will stop by the church. You are invited to make a short visit thanking God for His presence in the tabernacle and in our hearts as we are nourished at each and every Mass. Whenever we celebrate the Eucharistic Feast the altar is prepared for the gifts to be brought forward and we place a linen cloth called a corporal under the chalices and patens that hold the hosts. During a trip to Italy those on the pilgrimage with me visited a small town named Orvieto. We celebrated Mass in a chapel that contained a corporal that captured the blood of Jesus that dripped from a host the priest had just consecrated. The priest had expressed doubts about the real presence of Jesus during the consecration. The town of Orvieto has a major celebration in November. Pilgrims show from all over the world. As we celebrated mass in front of the blood stained corporal I was unable to continue the prayers of consecration momentarily as I contemplated the love Jesus has for us His people. His love is so deep He nourishes us with Himself. This was a WOW! moment. Whenever we gather as community we are many members but one body drawn together by a common bond of a love for Jesus. Today we celebrate the feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus. The song from Marty Haugen #834 in our hymnals comes to mind: “We are many parts, we are all one body.” It is hard to remember we are one body when there are so many signs of divisions among people. The divisions are found between spouses, in families, among relatives, between neighbors, in a parish community and in civic communities. A way to begin to heal division is for someone to ask for forgiveness. Jesus gives us the example on how to respond to someone who acknowledges they have faults and asks for forgiveness. Jesus reminds us that the two great commandments are: Love God with your whole heart, mind, and soul… and to love your neighbor as yourself. During this feast acknowledging how we are part of the Body of Jesus, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge that I am a man who sins. I ask for forgiveness if I have hurt you in any way. It was not intentional. I struggle with patience, once a decision is made I like to move forward. I forget that not everyone is ready to move at the same pace. In my prayers I do ask God to grant me greater awareness of the needs of others. Jesus loves you and so do I! Fr Chuck

    CHILDREN’S LITURGICAL CHOIR CAMP

Join us for our Children’s Liturgical Choir Camp this summer July 14th-July 17th from 10am-12pm. Choristers will learn throughout the week how to use their voices to sing and pray. At the end of the week we will sing for the 11am Mass on July 19th. The camp is free and open to grades 2-6 (entering Fall 2015). Contact Aana Freihammer, [email protected] or 218-444-4262 to get registered for this fun week!

    JOIN THE CHOIR!

It is not too late to join our new choir for St. Philip’s. We sang our first Sunday Mass last week. The choir sang really well, and we had a lot of fun. We sing once a month for the 9am Mass, and rehearse 45 minutes prior. This is a very informal group that will sing mostly unison and two part music. Brand new singers and experienced singers are all welcome. The first portion of rehearsal will focus on vocal technique for those who have always wanted to learn how to sing. This is a great opportunity for those with busy schedules, or those often work evenings and cannot join choirs that rehearse in the evenings. Contact Aana Freihammer if you are interested in joining, and it’s okay if you have summer plans! This choir is “come as you are, and when you can!” Our next Mass is June 28th.

“I wondered if my heart was big enough to love an adopted child as I would my biological child. There were also so many other variables to consider … We felt we had no control, but God reminded us again that He is always in control and that we could trust in Him.”

Society of St. Vincent de Paul Launches Recruitment Campaign… Because of the increasing number of people in need in the Diocese of Crookston the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) is launching “Invitation to Serve,” a campaign to recruit new members in Bemidji.

The largest social assistance organization in the world, SVdP is a Catholic lay organization of volunteers who come together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those in need and living in poverty. In the United States, the organization has some 172,000 members and is active in about 4,600 communities.

The goal of Invitation to Serve is to “invite caring people to give hope to those without hope by supplying food, clothing, help with rent, transportation or utility costs, and even love.”

Are you looking for ways to experience God? SVdP invites you to share in their ministry of serving people living in poverty. A representative from SVdP will speak at the weekend Masses on June 13 and 14. If you are interested in becoming active in this ministry, please plan on attending an informational meeting :

  • This summer, 25 high school youth from St. Philip’s parish will be attending the Steubenville Catholic Youth Conference in St. Paul, MN. As part of the conference, the youth are holding a Shoe Drive to help support this years Share The Glory out reach project at the conference. No shoe goes to waste. Even shoes with considerable wear and tear can be broken down and the raw materials used to repair another shoe, or to create an entirely new pair.

Funds2Orgs micro-enterprise partners in developing countries around the world, who work to repurpose the pairs to eliminate waste. A micro-enterprise is a small business with minimal employees and minimal capital. Funds2Orgs works with micro-enterprises in developing countries to bring sustainability and income to these areas.

At the conference, our youth will help to rubber band and bag the shoes, then load them up for takeaway! Thank you for your support and donation!
