A SUNDAY FOR REJOICING Today’s Gospel story of the prodigal son is a favorite of many. We can identify with all the major figures and their crisscross of emotions. The father’s initial grief over his young son’s avarice is turned to relief at his return. The son’s grief over his loss of for-tune, family, and friends is turned to deliri-ous joy at the sight of his father. We understand the eldest son’s bewilder-ment over his father’s generosity. For the older son, virtue seems not to be its own re-ward. For all his honorable toil and loyalty, there seems to be no celebration. The fa-ther, however, is prodigal in his forgiveness and mercy. He expects the same generosity from his older son. He wants all to rejoice when the lost one is found. This is a Sunday for rejoicing. It’s time to pause, consider, and encourage one an-other. We are the prodigal children heading home. We are the elder siblings waiting with the eager Father, who scans the horizon. In Christ Jesus we are reconciled to the Father and one another. In his death and resurrec-tion we have passed over. We are a new creation. In this we rejoice.

Lenten Days of Reflection Every Catholic man should at least consid-er priesthood as an option. Hopefully someone at some point in your life has asked you in these or similar words, “Is Je-sus calling you to be a priest?” It’s not an easy question to answer. It takes prayer and study to discover your TRUE vocation. Lenten Day of Reflection is for all high school young men and above who love Je-sus Christ and His Church. The next Lenten Day of Reflection is Satur-day, March 12, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., St. Jo-seph, 609 East Gramman Street, Beeville

The Altar and Rosary So-ciety has partnered up with St. Anthony Social Services in Robstown and they will be speaking to us this weekend about a food drive that we will have here to benefit their Food Pantry. This Food Pantry in Robstown feeds the poor and the homeless in our area so any help that you can give them will be appreciated. The ladies will be passing out slips of paper with names of items that are needed for this food drive. You can bring your items and place them in the boxes that will be provided in the foyer. Thank you for your time and your contributions to our food drive.

A SPECIAL THANKS to all the Knights of Co-lumbus and the youth that came out and worked so hard trimming trees and cleaning up the yard. The clean up started on Thurs-day afternoon at 4 pm and didn’t end until Saturday about noon. We need to thank Is-rael Cavazos, Billy Major and especially Luis Sepulveda for his donation of the 60 foot Man Lift equipment and for grilling the hot dogs. Also included in this group of volun-teers — the Boy Scouts/Leader and HEB Partners. We are very grateful to Israel Cavazos for organizing this big work day for our parish. Some of the ladies worked in-side the church cleaning while Billy Major replaced light bulbs and worked on wiring. This is a perfect example of Time and Talent being shared for the benefit of our parish. God will bless each and everyone of you!
