Prayer Shawl Ministry Star of the Month: Pat George

Let me introduce Pat George who was born in Milwaukee and has an older brother. Pat attended Garden Homes Grammar School for eight years, then attended Rufus King High School for four years concentrating on secretarial courses.

She worked early in her youth as a baby-sitter, clerk at a bakery & deli, and also a dry cleaners. After graduation she started work at an insurance company, followed by various other companies, then she became a medical transcriptionist, which she loved.

Pat married in 1959 at St. Nicholas Church where she had received all of her sacra-ments. She is a mother of three children, a grandmother of five and a great-grandmother of a baby girl.

Pat took knitting lessons and began knitting slippers...many of them! She read about our Prayer Shawl Ministry in the church bulletin and became a member ten years ago. Her favorite things to knit are the St. Nicholas Children Christmas hats. Come and meet Pat at one of our meetings. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets eve-ry 2nd Monday of each month from 1:00-3:00 pm in Grellinger Hall. If you have any questions, contact Liz White at (262) 312-0815.

Thank you Bulletin Ad Sponsors! Help Still Needed!

Janet Axtell from LPi, our bulletin publisher, has been securing advertisers for our bulletin. We would like to thank all of the ad-vertisers who have generously committed to the bulletin for this year! We still have space available and humbly ask that you con-sider advertising your business or remembering a loved one in our weekly bulletin. Our parish bulletin is one of our main communication tools to our parish members. It provides inspirational words from Father, Mass intentions, news, and events for the week ahead. We are thankful that this crucial communication piece is provided to our parish at no cost thanks to the generous advertising support of our parishioners and community-minded businesses. Please let us know if you can help. Sponsors of our bulletin recognize the tremendous value of connecting with our Church family, who in turn respond by sup-porting our sponsors! If you would like to advertise in the weekly bulletin, please contact Janet Axtell at (619) 787-3528 or via e-mail to [email protected] Thank you!

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

The View From the Back of the Line

Have you known that person? The one who leaves every person they encoun-ter feeling a little more blessed for having met them? They’re the friend you can count on when nothing is going well. They’re the one who’s always “doing” for others. They’re never gossiping or sniping or complaining.

We wonder how they do it, how they have it in them. We’re a little envious, even if we don’t let ourselves acknowledge it.

That, folks, is what the view is like from the front of the line, gazing at those suckers in the way back and wondering why they’re smiling so much.

We’ve all been at the front of a line and felt no shame about it. We show up early, we put in the time and the legwork, and we “earn” whatever it is we came for — sports tickets, the latest Apple product, whatever. That’s how it works here on Earth, where the fastest win the race, the fittest survive and the first shall be first, always.

It’s exactly why stewardship is such a tall order. Stewardship calls us to play by the rules of another kingdom — one where the richest have the least amount in their bank accounts and the happiest don’t seem to have anything to show for it, at least materially.

If you have a person in your life who always seems happy “doing” for oth-ers, it’s because by a boatload of God’s grace, they play by the rules of the other place.

Watch and take notes — and don’t be afraid to join them at the back of the line. – Tracy Earl Welliver ©LPi
