The Giving God
The Parable of the Talents in today’s Gospel, reminds us that God gives talents in order that they might be used by those who receive them for the greater glory of God. The focus of this parable is not on what happens after we die, but on how we live our lives every day in the face of the often difficult and painful realities of life.
The parable raises the fundamental question of, from which consciousness are we living? Like the third slave, when we live from a consciousness of scarcity, we live lives of fear and anxiety and a view of ourselves as vulnerable and
needy. ‘I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the
ground.’(Matthew 25:25)
Alternately, the challenge is to live the consciousness
of abundance that knows that at every moment of our lives, we are recipients of God’s presence, power and grace. The challenge is to see clearly this deeper reality, below life’s, sometimes, surface of darkness and difficulty.
Our task is not to create our life but to open to what we have been given and then give it away. Our lives are a gift given in order to be returned. Jesus invites us into God’s life-giving, universal energy field of receiving, giving and receiving.

Journey in Christ’ by Christopher Page.

Once again we have our CHRIST-
MAS TREE erected in the Church
foyer. There are many tags hanging
from the branches and we would ask
parishioners to take one and return it
within the next few weeks with a
toy or cash donation – whichever is
on the tag. There is no need to wrap
the gifts as they go into a toy bag.
We would stress that all toys or
money received, will go toward
making Christmas a little better for
those who will be struggling to cope
this year. It seems to get more each
year!
This community has always re-
sponded magnificently to our ap-
peals and we pray that this year will
be no exception Thank you all for
your wonderful support. Our joy
and satisfaction comes when we de-
liver our hampers and toys. The
smiles of relief and gratitude are our
reward. God Bless You.
SVDP CHRISTMAS CARDS AND
CALENDARS.
This year we will be selling our Christ-
mas Card packets of 8 cards for $5.00 and packets of 5 cards for $3.00.
The Columban Mission Calendars will also be on sale at $9.00 each. Please
visit us in the Church Foyer
THANK YOU
Father Joseph would like to thank the
following parishioners for their generous
donations :
Marlene Daly for Jesus and the children.
Christine & Roger Shattock for the large
Nativity Scene.

ST PETER JULIAN EYMARD PARISH
STRIVING TO BE
A WELCOMING CATHOLIC COMMUNITY
As longtime Parishioners & Newsletter readers know, the Parish RCIA – “Rite of Christian Initiation
for Adults” – Programme has been a vital part of Parish life & liturgy for well over 2 decades and has
companioned, prepared and welcomed many, many new Parishioners and families through that time.
And, despite the often negative press of recent years, people still seek to join the Programme & the
Church.
All this is made possible by the Parish RCIA Team, a small group of parishioners who gather in the
Parish House weekly over six months or so – usually after the Readings & Homily of Sunday Mass.
Our task is to be community companions to any” candidates”, those who wish to discover more about
Jesus, the Church and their own inner selves & call, and who may eventually decide to join the Parish a
full members of the Church. We do this over an hour or so by reflection on the Scriptures and on the
teachings and traditions of the Church, coming to know God and Jesus in Good News, in Church &
mission, in the events of every day; and, above all, in prayer and community. We start with prayer and
a cuppa each time and we celebrate finally with liturgy and cake!
But – our” small group of parishioners” is smaller than ever; of our present foursome, one joined last
year and three have been with the Team since the early 2000s –” and we aren’t getting any younger”;
the last three to reluctantly leave the group had served for between 10 & 15 years and were well into
their 80s! Ideally, we would like a group of about 6 to 8, both for present need and to be able to hand
on to the future.
As well, we would like to have a couple within the group who could work with young children (to
about age 10) so that we could offer RCIA as a family programme or package; we were able to do this
up to two years ago but our numbers do not allow this at the moment; clearly teaching or catechist or
family experience would be important but self and enthusiasm are the greatest gift.
Our first qualification is faith and a loving, critical membership of the community we call Church;
training, support and guidance are available within the RCIA Team, from the Parish and from the
Office for Evangelization of the Archdiocese. Clearly hope is also in the picture!
“If today you hear God’s voice – open your hearts” - you will find the journey worthwhile and
rewarding in itself; that’s why Team members give such long and glad service.
If you are feel any stirrings or have any questions or comments, kindly ring the RCIA Coordinator,
Michael McLindon on 0401331131 (or leave a message) or the Parish House on 9723 4275; such a call
can begin to answer or sort out any hesitations or queries – without any pressure! Also, feel free to chat
to Father Joseph or any of the RCIA Team.
With thanks – especially to those parishioners who faithfully make RCIA a part of their ongoing prayer
& encouragement.
Jan Smith, Lynne Blackshaw, Gerard Wheeler & Michael McLindon, RCIA Team 2017-18.
