At God's right hand on high—

3 For You alone are holy,

You only are the Lord.

Forever and forever,

Be worshiped and adored;

You with the Holy Spirit

Alone are Lord Most High,

Holy Gospel Matthew 13:44–52 The Kingdom of Heaven is Jesus finding us as His treasure, selling all He has to purchase us as His great pearl, and casting the net

that gathers us to Himself.

C Glory to You, O Lord.

After the reading:

C Praise to You, O Christ.

Nicene Creed

C I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth

and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the only-begotten Son of God,

begotten of His Father before all worlds,

God of God, Light of Light,

very God of very God,

begotten, not made,

being of one substance with the Father,

by whom all things were made;

who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven

and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary

and was made man;

and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried.

And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures

and ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of the Father.

And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,

whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord and giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,

who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church,

I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,

and I look for the resurrection of the dead

and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

7 From me this is not hidden,

Yet I am not afraid;

I leave my cares, as bidden,

To whom my vows were paid.

Though life from me be taken

And ev’rything I own,

I trust in You unshaken

And cleave to You alone.

8 No danger, thirst, or hunger,

No pain or poverty,

No earthly tyrant’s anger

Shall ever vanquish me.

Though earth should break asunder,

My fortress You shall be;

No fire or sword or thunder

Shall sever You from me.

9 No angel and no gladness,

No throne, no pomp, no show,

No love, no hate, no sadness,

No pain, no depth of woe,

No scheming, no contrivance,

No subtle thing or great

Shall draw me from Your guidance

Nor from You separate.

10 My heart with joy is springing;

I am no longer sad.

My soul is filled with singing;

Your sunshine makes me glad.

The sun that cheers my spirit

Is Jesus Christ, my King;

The heav’n I shall inherit

Makes me rejoice and sing

Canticle The Lord Has Set the Captive Free Text by James Rogner

Music by Benjamin Culli The refrain is sung first by the choir and then repeated by all.

Lord Jesus Christ, once crucified, Arose in triumph from the grave That we, who once in Adam died, Might by His sacrifice be saved.

Now more than conquerors are we: No demon, peril, depth, or sword Can overcome Christ’s victory Or separate us from our Lord. Refrain

Grant us, O Lord, the grace to live Each day according to Your will, Blessed by the labor that You give, Content our calling to fulfill.

Lord, at the final trumpet sound, When those who died in Christ are raised, Let us among the saints be found To join the heav’nly host in praise. Refrain

Hymn 818 In Thee Is Gladness

1 In Thee is gladness

Amid all sadness,

Jesus, sunshine of my heart.

By Thee are given

The gifts of heaven,

Thou the true Redeemer art.

Our souls Thou wakest,

Our bonds Thou breakest;

Who trusts Thee surely

Has built securely;

He stands forever: Alleluia!

Our hearts are pining

To see Thy shining,

Dying or living

To Thee are cleaving;

Naught can us sever: Alleluia!

2 Since He is ours,

We fear no powers,

Not of earth nor sin nor death.

He sees and blesses

In worst distresses;

He can change them with a breath.

Wherefore the story

Tell of His glory

With hearts and voices;

All heav’n rejoices

In Him forever: Alleluia!

We shout for gladness,

Triumph o’er sadness,

Love Him and praise Him

And still shall raise Him

Glad hymns forever: Alleluia!

Stand

Nunc Dimittis– LSB p. 211 O Lord, now let Your servant

Depart in heav'nly peace,

For I have seen the glory

Of Your redeeming grace:

A light to lead the Gentiles

Unto Your holy hill,

The glory of Your people,

Your chosen Israel.

All glory to the Father,

All glory to the Son,

All glory to the Spirit,

Forever Three in One;

For as in the beginning,

Is now, shall ever be,

God's triune name resounding

Through all eternity.

Post-Communion Collect, Benedicamus, and Benediction – LSB p. 212

P Let us bless the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

P The Lord bless you and keep you.

The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you.

The Lord look upon you with favor and T give you peace.

C Amen.

Hymn to Depart 713 From God Can Nothing Move Me, stanzas 6 & 7

6 Yet even though I suffer

The world’s unpleasantness,

And though the days grow rougher

And bring me great distress,

That day of bliss divine,

Which knows no end or measure,

And Christ, who is my pleasure,

Forever shall be mine.

7 For thus the Father willed it,

Who fashioned us from clay;

And His own Son fulfilled it

And brought eternal day.

The Spirit now has come,

To us true faith has given;

He leads us home to heaven.

O praise the Three in One!

Small Catechism

The Conclusion to the Lord’s Prayer

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever

and ever. Amen.

What does this mean?

This means that I should be certain that these

petitions are pleasing to our Father in heaven, and

are heard by Him; for He Himself has commanded

us to pray in this way and has promised to hear us.

Amen, amen, means, "yes, yes, it shall be so."

Large Catechism

God has briefly set before us all the afflictions that may ever

beset us in order that we may never have an excuse for failing

to pray. But the efficacy of prayer consists in our learning

also to say “Amen” to it—that is, not to doubt that our prayer

is surely heard and will be granted. This word is nothing else

than an unquestioning affirmation of faith on the part of one

who does not pray as a matter of chance but knows that God

does not lie since he has promised to grant his requests.

Where such faith is wanting, there can be no true prayer.

Behold, such is the importance that God attaches to our

being certain that we do not pray in vain and that we must not

in any way despise our prayers.

throughout the whole world; for the persecuted and

oppressed; for the sick and dying.

Saturday: For faithfulness to the end; for the renewal of

those who are withering in the faith or have fallen away;

for receptive hearts and minds to God’s Word on the

Lord’s Day.

Lord’s Prayer

Final Collect

Almighty God, since You have granted us the favor to call on

You with one accord and have promised that where two or

three are gathered together in Your name You are in the

midst of them, fulfill now the prayers of Your servants,

granting us in this world knowledge of Your truth and in the

world to come life everlasting; through Jesus Christ, our

Lord.

Hymn

May doubt not but with trust believe

That what we ask we shall receive.

Thus in Your name and at Your Word

We say, “Amen, O hear us, Lord!” (LSB 766:9)

July 26 – Pentecost VIII (Proper 12A) – Measuring a field’s dimensions cannot diminish the value of a treasure buried there (Matthew 13:44). So however pretty, popular, or productive, however controversial the politics and however personal the choices, do the rest of us amount to any more than embryos or incapacitated hospital patients when compared to the Almighty Maker of heavens and earth? The Lord God actually has a preference for small (Deuteronomy 7:7). The less we

have, the more He gets to give. And since He will have us, He wants every member of our race.
