PRAYER OF THE DAY

M: O Holy Spirit, the strength of all who trust in you, mercifully hear our prayers. Be gracious to us in our weakness and give us strength to live lives worthy of our calling as your temples; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Father, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen.TODAY’S BIBLE STORY – John 12:1-11

M: The Gospel according to John Chapter 12.

C: Glory be to you, O Lord.

Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”

9 Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, 11 for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.

M: This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C: Praise be to you, O Christ.

CONFESSION OF FAITH: The Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed and the Catechism’s Meaning

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. What does this mean? I believe that I cannot by my own thinking or choosing believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to him.But the Holy Spirit has called me by the gospel, enlightened me with his gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way he calls, gathers, enlightens and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian Church he daily and fully forgives all sins to me and all believers. On the Last Day he will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and believers in

PREPARATION FOR THE LORD’S SUPPER

M: We humbly approach God and confess our sins, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.

C: Lord of life, I confess that I am by nature dead in sin.For faithless worrying and selfish pride, For sins of habit and sins of choice,For the evil I have done and the good I have failed to do, You should cast me away from your presence forever. O Lord, I am sorry for my sins. Forgive me, for Jesus’ sake.

M: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. In his great mercy, God made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in our sins. Hear the word of Christ through his called servant: I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

M: The Lord be with you.

C: And also with you.

M: Lift up your hearts.

C: We lift them up to the Lord.

M: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

C: It is good and right so to do.

M: O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who poured out his promised Holy Spirit to testify to the truth and to remind his followers of everything he had said to them, and by faith gives us the privilege to talk to him in prayer:

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

M: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” The peace of the Lord be with you always. Amen.

Meet Our New Teachers

Kathryn Freudenwald ….. I grew up in Caledonia, Wisconsin. I attended Trinity Lutheran School in Caledonia, and then Shoreland Lutheran High School in Somers, Wisconsin. Teaching was something that my twin sister, Karen, and I had always wanted to do since we were in 1st grade. We both went to Martin Luther College in Minnesota, and graduated from Martin Luther College in 1986. Karen and I are both Kindergarten teachers who love to share Jesus with our students.

I began my teaching ministry in 1986 when I was assigned to teach Grades 1-2 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran School in Janesville, Wisconsin. I taught in Janesville for twelve years, and then I accepted a Call to teach Preschool and Kindergarten in Milwaukee. I have been teaching in Milwaukee for the last 22 years. I was teaching 3rd grade at Salem Lutheran School in Milwaukee when I received the Call to teach Kindergarten at St. Paul’s in Cudahy just before Easter. I am very excited to continue my teaching ministry here at St. Paul’s. I love spending time with family and friends. In my spare time I really enjoy taking care of all kinds of plants and flowers. I am looking forward to meeting everyone in my new St. Paul’s church family.

William Roepke Jr. ….. I am an old-school Cardinal who graduated from our school in 1991. My K-8th grade years at the “Old” St. Paul’s School remain some of the most important in making me who I am today. I am extremely excited and honored to be able to return to the “New” St. Paul’s School, and begin a new chapter here as a teacher and minister for Christ.

I consider myself a life-long learner, an explorer, and very blessed. After graduating from Cudahy High School in 1996 (yes...a Cudahy Packer, too), I attended UWM until 2001. In 1998, I lived, worked, and studied in London, England. I was very fortunate as a child to have been taken on many trips to countries all over the world. It was only natural for me to want to continue traveling, learning, and experiencing the classroom of the world. God set events in motion in 2002 that would change my life forever, and in 2003 I set out on a 15-year adventure that would include teaching English as a second language, English Grammar, Composition, and Literature, as well as sharing our Savior’s gift of salvation in Japan and Guam and other countries in the region.

Along the way I met my wife, Saori. She is a wonderful blessing given to me by God. It has been amazing to be there at her baptism, attend instruction classes with her at the WELS mission Church, Aganai Lutheran, in Tokyo, witness her confirmation, and see her grow in her faith. After 10-years in Japan, I moved to Guam to earn my masters in teaching and become better at teaching World Literature, AP and IB English, and Language Arts. I would still be out there somewhere teaching and learning if God hadn’t taken the opportunity to alter my life again. On June 8, 2016, Saori and I were blessed with our little “princess,” Leia Rey. Having become a dad, I was reminded of how truly important your entire family network is. I will say that like most families in our congregation, I am very blessed to have one of the best. In 2017, Saori, Leia, and I made the decision to come back to be close to my mother, father, and extended family here in Wisconsin. Little did I know then that these were the first steps towards an even bigger family reunion at St. Paul’s Cudahy.

God surely does answer all things in his time; 2020 is proving an awesome reveal for all of us. God has granted me the blessing of coming full circle by bringing me home to our church; he has also blessed Saori and I with another baby girl due in October. I can’t tell you all how excited, motivated, and enthused I am to be living this opportunity to work with children here at my home church as they get ready to set out on their own journey. In our modern world, we can all see that being equipped with the sword of the Spirit and the shield of faith as well as possessing the peace that surpasses all understanding is needed more than ever.

To those of you who know me from years past, thank you for welcoming me home with such support, encouragement, and guidance. To those of you I have yet to meet, know that I will serve and bring my God-given talents, skills, and experiences to the children of St. Paul’s.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US IN WORSHIP TODAY!We pray that all who are here today are blessed by the Word of God that you will hear in our lessons, hymns and message. These are challenging times. We are striving to worship our God in a meaningful and yet safe way. Thank you for your patience and kindness as we do that. To assist you as you worship ….

Masks Are Required! Governor Evers has mandated the use of cloth face masks while indoors at a public facility through the end of September. Therefore, masks are required for in-person worship in accordance with the state-wide policy. If we see someone not wearing a mask in church, assume they have a condition or circumstance that makes wearing a mask difficult or dangerous. While some have concerns about this mandate, it is an opportunity for us to express Christian love to our community and those at risk.

During the Communion portion of the service, please remain in your pew and participate at the pastor’s direction.

Offering envelopes can be placed in the offering baskets in the back row of pews as you exit. You will be ushered out at the direction of the ushers moving from the back pews to front pews. Service folders will not be reused. You may take it home or toss it in a receptacle as you are leave. To visit following the service, please use the open-air areas - sidewalks and grass - around the church. Pastor will greet people outside of the church, but won’t be shaking hands.
