The evidence of an empty tomb (resurrec on) is another miracle that occurred around Jesus, just like transfigura on and ascension. The soldiers merciless-ly dealt with the body of Jesus to the extent of killing it, but they could do no worse than that. When Jesus, the innocent vic m that was killed, came back to life, it le the perpetrators in a state of confusion and tension. It was obvious that the soldiers were incapa-ble of killing a person who had risen from the dead! The authori es had to tell lies, in order to cover up the truth of the evidence of Jesus’ resurrec on and appari ons at different loca ons. The soldiers that were assigned to watch the tomb were aggressive-ly fierce, in order to prevent the disciples of Jesus from stealing the body away. The early hours of East-er Sunday witnessed something spectacular, the tomb was kept open while the body of Jesus Christ was not there, but could only be traced among the living. From that moment, Jesus could do extra ordi-nary things: appari ons, going through walls and reading minds. Jesus, concentrated on empowering his disciples, so as to advance the course of the gospel to the ends of the world. The Jewish culture of that me had placed limits on the status of women, however, more respect should be directed to them; worthy of note are the pivotal roles carried out by women in the ministry of Jesus. The gospel accounts point to Mary Magdalene as the one that brought the resurrec on of Jesus Christ to the forefront. According to that Jewish culture, it took two or three men to bear witness, which explains why Peter and John ran in order to

see the facts for themselves as reported by Mary Magdalene. Every living person is expected to par ci-pate in discipleship, through serving humanity, and encouraging others to reach all parts of the world. The trial, condemna on, suffering and death of Jesus highlighted a weakness in humanity’s sense of judgment. As the prince of peace, the true hero of jus ce was labeled as riotous, as a rebel and criminal who was horribly killed with thieves. The ministry of

Jesus focused on healing the sick, feeding the hungry, encouraging the downtrodden, and comfor ng the lonely, depressed and needy. Against all odds, Jesus a empted to serve the communi es he visit-ed by bringing hope to where things seemed hopeless, and by pu ng spiritual light where dark-ness bedeviled God’s image and likeness. The celebra on of Easter redeems what humanity lost in Genesis— a cordial friendship with God our Creator, in whose image and likeness we are config-ured. Without Christ’s singular act of redemp on, our resemblance to God might have become incom-

pa ble; but the salva on of Jesus reconciled us to God for all ages. We are, therefore, an Easter people; Alleluia is our song and we completely share in the glory of Jesus Christ through his cross. Throughout the centuries, God keeps sending priests, prophets and leaders to witness His work to all genera ons. In the spirit of Easter, we should consider others who are maltreated by injus ce, greediness, wickedness, and the desire to dominate the world.

NOVENA TO THE DIVINE MERCY CONTINUES

Good Friday (4/10/2020) through Easter Saturday (4/18/2020)

The Divine Mercy Novena provides a bridge from the sorrow of Good Friday, through the triumph of Easter, to the glory of Divine Mercy Sunday, the Sunday within the octave of Easter.

Pray the 9 Novena days @ 3:00 p.m. (the Hour of Divine Mercy revealed by St. Faustina), if you are able, or

a time of your own choosing. The daily Novena devotion consists of a special intention prayer and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. BRIEF BUT POWERFUL

If you do not have a divine mercy booklet, it is easy to get the prayers online. The divine mercy chaplet

pamphlet will also be available for you to pick up in the church, daily from 8 to noon.

Ask yourself if you need God's mercy, and the indulgence outlined on pages 9 and 10. We with to thank the Divine Mercy group for their years of dedication in meeting for the Novena in the chapel, however, at this

time we ask that everyone pray in unity but in your own home.

THE MYSTERY OF EMPTINESS Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed! This Paschal greeting is customary in Eastern Catholic and Ortho-

dox churches on Easter Sunday. Then there is Saint Augustine’s acclamation of joy: We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song! However you express it, Easter is the time for rejoicing because Jesus Christ, our friend and brother, is risen from the dead. And yet today’s scriptures are less joyful than one would expect for the most important feast in the Christian calendar. Perhaps we are being asked to look deeper into the mystery of the Resurrection, just as Peter went into the tomb to look deeper into the mystery of its emptiness.

Mary Magdalene, who loved the Lord so much that she risked everything, possibly even her life, to go to the tomb before daybreak, finds the stone rolled away and assumes that someone has taken Jesus’ body. Frightened and sad, she runs to tell Peter and John. They all run back to the tomb, but what do they expect to see? Peter enters the tomb and sees. John enters, sees, and believes. But what does he believe? Scripture states, “For they did not yet understand the scripture that he had to rise from the dead” (John 20:9). They went home, not really knowing what had happened. But John “believed” something. SOMETHING HAPPENED

What do we believe? Somewhere between that Easter morning and Peter’s confident teaching about Jesus in the reading from the Acts of the Apostles, something (the Risen Christ) happened. Peter has evolved from his bewilderment into a witness to the Resurrection.

What are we to find in the empty tomb? Maybe the Colossians reading has an answer. By entering the empty tomb of our lives to seek the Lord, we see, we believe, we die, to be raised with Christ. “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3). And we will rise in glory with him.

Among the joys of friendship is learning new things about the friend – hidden treasures are revealed over time spent with the friend. Time spent in adoration gives Jesus the opportunity to communicate meanings previously hidden in familiar Scriptures. It’s like Jesus hid them for our future amazement. The Miracle at the Wedding Feast at Cana is a familiar story – the 2nd Luminous Mystery. But only on reflection/meditation does one appreciate what lies hidden in the details – like the amount of water changed into wine. By changing such an enormous quantity into wine, Jesus revealed that the ministry He was begin-ning at Cana would be superabundant. His saving acts would far exceed what was necessary to balance the scales after Adam’s sin. Our condition, as redeemed sons and daughters of the Father, is immeasurably greater than that of Adam and Eve. The Church possesses treasures in the reflections and commentaries of hundreds of saints, all waiting to be discovered. Time spent in adoration is when/where it happens.

Notes on Life of Christ by Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

“As the fall of man was a free act, so too the redemption had to be free. What is called the Annunciation was actually God asking the free consent of a creature to help Him to be incorporated into humanity.” “Suppose a musician in an orchestra freely strikes a sour note. The conductor is competent, the music is correctly scored and easy to play, but the musician still exercises his freedom by introducing discord which immediately passes into space. The director can do one of two things: he can either order the selection replayed or he can ignore the discord. Fundamentally, it makes no difference which he does, for that false note is traveling out into space at the rate of more than a thousand feet per second; and as long as time endures, there will be discord in the universe. Is there any way to restore harmony to the world? It can be done only by someone coming in from eternity and stopping the note in its wild flight. But will it still be a false note? The harmony can be restored on one condition only - if that note is made the first note in a new melody, then it will become harmonious. This is precisely what happened when Christ was born. There had been a false note of moral discord introduced by the first man, which infected all humanity. God could have ignored it, but it would have been a violation of justice for Him to do so, which is, of course, unthinkable. What He did, therefore, was to ask a woman, representing humanity, freely to give Him a human nature with which He would start a new humani-ty . . . As in the first garden, Eve brought destruction, so in the garden of her womb, Mary would now bring Redemption.”

Saturday, May 2, is the First Saturday of the month. Our Fatima Blessed Mother petitioned to the children the devotion and graces by observing the First Saturday of the month. The requirements are: attend Mass, receive Holy Communion, go to Confession, pray the Rosary for the Reparation of the sins of the world, and ALSO meditate on ALL of the mys-teries of the Holy the Rosary. However, since public Masses are cancelled during this time, the recommendation is to watch the Mass on any accessible means and go to Confession as soon as there is an opportunity. AND, of course, fulfill the other requirements as well. Part of our commitment to Our Lady of Fatima is to pray a daily Rosary for the reparation of the sins of the world. This is, for many, their first Rosary of the day, since everyone in the world (including our family and friends) are being prayed for when this Rosary is recited. In addition: The Little Sisters of the Poor have asked us to pray an additional Rosary to end this pandemic. In 1917, Our Lady promised the Children during one of her Apparitions that if a Million People would pray the Rosary Daily, WW I will end. Thus, right now we are in an "invisible war" as the President stated. Please join and sign with 'The Little Sister of the Poor' to pray for the end of this epidemic. In 1954, Sr. Lucia was interviewed by Msgr Fuentes. Sr. Lucia said that God will send a chastisement unless we pray the Rosary daily and ask the Blessed Mother for Her intervention. I have included the link. God Bless and please promote the devotion. Please say one rosary everyday ask-ing for the end of the pandemic. It is not absolutely necessary to sign up, we just thought it would help motivate everyone. Just go to the website and fill in your name/location: www.littlesistersofthepoor.org

THANK YOU TO MEN OF CHRIST!

Many thanks to St. Paul’s Men of Christ Group, who do-nated this beautiful print of “Storm on the Sea of Galilee,” which has been hung in our Church on the right side of the vestibule. The Rembrandt painting depicts the attitudes that we all have when things don’t go our way: fear, des-pair, anxiety & even sickness. Jesus, of course shows us how we ought to react, with trust, peace, faith & hope. Our Patron, St. Paul tells us in Philippians 4:6 “Don’t be anxious for anything; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” A timely quote during our present circumstances! At the time of this printing, St. Paul Church continues to remain open between 8:00 am and 12 noon each day. We strongly encourage our faithful to visit our main church daily 8 am to noon, for adoration and prayers. We ask parishioners who visit to maintain social distancing with a limit of 10 people in the space.
