First, let me say a great big THANK YOU to everyone who helped out at this year’s Arts Camp! Our theme this year was “Let Your Light Shine,” and we had a great week learning about God’s light and how that light shines through each of us. The kids did crafts, played games, and learned dance routines and skits. On Friday they put on a program for their families where they

showed off their dance moves, performed their skits, and sang the songs they learned at camp. Thank you to the following people who helped to make this week possible: Monte Hummel, Lauren Ianni, Jenna Ianni, Sueanne Daley, Beth Abinanti, Ray Schramm, Jim Jordan, Pr. Mark Price, Ray Abinanti, Kathy Knight, Cameron Rogero, Vikki Wohl, Rose Terra, Bowen Terra, Donna Erlen-busch, Sheryl Fabrizio, Bonnie Kie-drowski, Jasmine Kiesz, Cookie Han-lon, Audrey Churchill, Monica Partida, Karen Copstead, Emily, Mari, Katie, Sarah, Samantha, Chris Olson, and Jan Flannery. St. Paul’s camp ministries are possible because of your gifts and time! If you haven’t done so already, check out the pic-tures from Arts Camp either on the bulletin board by Morton Hall, or on St. Paul’s facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/stpaullodi The ACG Club will meet this month on April 19. We have been having a lot of fun together, and would love if you could join us! We meet at 6:00 in Morton Hall, have dinner together, and then do some fun activities. Youth group concludes at 7:30. Friends are always welcome, so feel free to bring guests. Women’s Bible Study will resume on April 11, af-ter a break over camp and Holy Week. We meet on Thursdays at 5:00 in the Fireside Room, and are done at 6:00. You can come any time, even in the

middle of a study. We are currently studying Jesus’ mother, Mary. You don’t have to have been there for the previous sessions, each one is fairly self-contained. It might seem like a long way off, but Vacation Bi-ble School is right around the corner! VBS is June 10-14 this year, and our theme is God’s Backyard Bible Camp. This year we are teaming up with St. John Episcopal Church for VBS and are excited for their students and their volunteers to join us in this important ministry. VBS is for students from Pre-school-8th grade, and runs every day from 9am-3pm. This is our biggest camp, and therefore requires the largest numbers of volunteers. Please let me or the church office know if you would like to volunteer

for all or part of the week. We will need guides to take the children to their rotations, leaders to teach each rotation, people to help with snacks and lunches, music and worship helpers, and much more. We definitely have a spot for you!

HOLISTIC HEALTH These are words most of us have heard or used from time to time. How many of us really

understand what this means? For the purpose of this article, we will define it as the combination of physi-cal, emotional and spiritual health. We all know and understand what is meant by physical health since this is discussed regularly. We probably are well aware of mental/emotional health since we probably know of someone who has lived with this perhaps being miss-ing in their life. Today I want to discuss with you the concept of spiritual health. We seem not to hear much about this, since it has only recently begun to be stud-ied with any degree of seriousness. There are many reasons for this, but space precludes talking about it here. This will be an article on spiritual health, not spirituality. This difference can be discussed at an-other time. Basically, spiritual health involves a reli-gious belief system. People who see themselves as having good spiritual health, have stated they feel that they have a life pur-pose and ultimate meaning. This may include a one-ness with nature and beauty and a sense of connected-ness with others; deep concern for and commitment to something greater than self; a sense of wholeness in life and love, joy, peace, hope, and fulfillment. In terms of external interactions, spiritually well indi-viduals express themselves with trust, honesty with others, compassion and service. They also tend to regularly commune with or have some kind of rela-tionship with a higher power that exceeds observable physical reality. This is only the tip of the iceberg in discussing spiri-tual health. I want to discuss again next month some of the other components such as: How do people who have no concern for spiritual health see their life, what do they believe and how do they interact with others around them. Also well discuss why spiritual health is

so important for all of us. In closing, a short synopsis of a devotion written many years ago by Alvin Rogness, a noted Lutheran church scholar and writer. Two old friends were talking. They had known each other for many years. One was the author and the other a man who had devoted his life to his restaurant, which had done very well. Dr. Rogness had complimented the man on how well his restaurant was doing. The man paused, tears formed in his eyes, and he said, "But, Al, I haven't taken time for my soul." His sad remark was echoing the words of our Lord in Mark 8:36 when Christ told the wealthy young man, “What is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul (life)." Enjoy the beautiful springtime that is coming. It is a gift from our God who loves us. Blessings, Marilyn, Your Parish Nurse

Hello from your Preschool. We have just completed our preschool “Lent Event” and now look for-ward to celebrating and learning about Easter. Our “Lent Event” was a great suc-cess plus a very beneficial experi-ence for those attending. We had wonderful speaker presentations on: Autism-the Spectrum/Cherise Francovich-

LUSD Psychologist, Kindergarten Readiness/Sue Hummel-LUSD Teacher, Healthy Preschoolers/Marilyn Maki-Parish Nurse, Read-ing Readiness/Kathy Knight-Reading Specialist, and Nutrition/Vicki Mullenbach-Lodi Health. Thank you all so much for your ex-cellent participation! This month the children will be having their SPRING pictures taken by our favorite photographer, “Lil ‘Angels.” They arrive with 3 outfits for the children to “pose” in. It’s so much fun! Many families bring sib-lings too. This is also a fundraising activity for our school. Our themes for this month will be: Spring, Insects, Butterflies, and our Bodies. Our Bible Verses will be: “Sing for Joy to God” and “Let the Children Come to Me.” We conclude the alphabet this month with let-ters” Yy and Zz. The children will then review letters, have printing practice-including numbers, continue rhyming words, and simple math exercises. This month we will participate in the Muscular Dys-trophy “Hop a Thon.” Last year when we met Miss Annabelle, her brother Ben was a student here. She was just beginning to stand and use a walker. Now, with the help of MDA’s support and therapy…she is walking on her own. All money raised will go to MDA-TEAM ANNABELLE in this immediate area. She will be here with her family on April 3-4 to meet with the children participating. MDA is also sending some of their volunteers to help our event. We will be awarding our children prizes and an “ice cream so-cial” for hopping. If you are interested in making a

donation, please see or call me. In May we graduate 29 children into kindergarten. More information regarding this event next month! Our school enrollment is going very well. We are blessed. I’d like to mention the great work of our PM Teach-ers…Miss Chloe and Miss Monica. They are fantastic with the children…always bright/loving/bubbly/and inventive. See hallway for examples of their work.

Afternoon work includes: letter printing, several sorting jobs, theme art projects, snack, outside playtime, circle activities plus story and songs. On our wish list: child’s small, round table with 2 chairs, updated play kitchen, plants for outside boxes, bark and sand for outside playground area, markers and stick-

ers. A special thank-you to Bonnie Mauch for contributing items to us…yummy chocolate candy +. Thank you for your continued interest and support. Sincerely, Rita Spohn, Director

Social Ministry

The Social Concerns committee has several projects they have been working on. The mission in Rwanda continues to be supported by St. Paul and they are looking forward to a visit by Robin Strickler on July 14. She is the principal of the school there. Her hus-band has been at St. Paul’s and the connection goes a long way back. The school continues to grow and of-fer education to many students who would have not been able to acquire otherwise.

They also keep open communication with our sister congregation in El Salvador and provide limited fi-nancial support.

The Social Concern committee was able to help the Lodi House for women and children by doing some painting at their facility when they needed it.

The committee also provides the congregation with opportunities to help support third world coffee grow-ers by selling their coffee and candy during forum each week. It is always located at the back of Morton Hall near the door.

A connection with the Salvation Army is made by members attending a monthly meeting and coordinat-ing with the various projects during the year.

The next important thing on their agenda will be get-ting applications for scholarships offered to graduat-ing senior girls who have a goal and need some finan-cial aide.

They meet the first Monday of each month in Morton Hall at 5:00 for an hour. New members are encour-aged to become part of this vital mission to connect with the community and the world and each other.
