ANOTHER WAY TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR A CHILD'S

SMILE PROGRAM

The community's interest in our A Child's Smile program is increasing as evidenced by the Paying It Forward effort of the James G. Herro Agency referral program. For every referral it receives and has an opportunity to prepare and present at least a home and auto quote to, it will donate $10 to the spotlight charity of the quarter. It included our A Child's Smile program last year, and it resulted in a $150 contribution. The agency has included A Child's Smile again this year. Its choice of local charities is listed below. The person you refer doesn't have to purchase a policy for your referral to count. If you are interest in supporting our A Child's Smile program by

participating from July through September 2018, the contact information is: James G. Herro Agency, Hartland, WI 262-719-8384 [email protected]. 2018 Charities: 1st Quarter: This Time Tomorrow Foundation - provides direct financial support to individuals and families fighting all forms of cancer.

2nd Quarter: Heartland Farm Sanctuary - helps abandoned and surrendered farm animals and connecting them to vulnerable youth.

3rd Quarter: "A Child's Smile" sponsored by St. Olaf Church, Rubicon, WI - puts smiles on faces of children from local families facing hard times at Christmas.

4th Quarter: The Milwaukee Rescue Mission - hunger know no season.

WOMEN OF GRACE NEWS At our Women of Grace meeting held in July, it was suggested that I share the purpose and mission statements of the Women of the ELCA. It is always included in the annual report, but I agree that it may be something helpful for our members to be aware of the purpose of our organization of women and to be able to see how we might affect our church, community, and the world at large. So, below is first the mission statement and then the purpose statement as created by the national organization of the Women of the ELCA. We, as Women of Grace, at St. Olaf, follow these statements as well.

Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) Mission Statement:

“To Mobilize Women to Act Boldly on their Faith in Jesus Christ”

WELCA PURPOSE STATEMENT: “As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, society and the world.”

Women who are members of or attend St. Olaf are considered members of the Women of Grace and may participate in any way that they choose. Participation is always appreciated and encouraged with the hope that our spiritual lives will also be enriched by this community of women acting together.

We will NOT be having a meeting in August. There are too many other wonderful things happening. We WILL have a meeting in September. It will be held on September 13th at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at church. One of the topics at that time will be to finalize the preparation dates for the lutefisk dinner, bake sale, and Scandi Butik.

Please look elsewhere in this newsletter for information about Bingo at Shorehaven. It will be held on Friday, August 17th.

Also, please read the next article that talks about a day trip being planned for September 12th. The trip is open to all, not just to the women of the church.

Thank you to everyone who participates in the projects that the Women of Grace organize. Your

continued support is vital to our congregation and may just enrich your own life as well. Respectfully submitted, Cindy J. Schlieve, President

DAY TRIP OPPORTUNITY The Women of Grace are planning a day trip to Madison on September 12, 2018. Anyone interested may attend – men, women, young people. There will be some walking involved, so please keep that in mind as you think about the trip.

Our tentative itinerary includes:

Leave church at 7:00 a.m.

Park at the State Street Capitol Parking ramp (~8:30)

Tour the State Capitol

Visit the Wisconsin Historical Museum

Lunch at the Lutheran Campus Ministry or at Brennan’s Cellars

Visit the Midvale Community Lutheran Church

Possibly, a little drive to Stoughton to visit Livsreise (a Norwegian Heritage Center)

Arrive back at St. Olaf by 6:00 p.m.

The cost for the trip is minimal – the meal, some gas money, and a small fee for one of the tours, plus any spending money desired for souvenirs.

A sign-up sheet will be posted in mid-August. I think it will be fun day and hope many will consider joining in on this day trip. Contact Cindy Schlieve with questions about this event.
