MATTHEW’S SCHOOL FOCUS FOR WEEK 1 “Everyone Belongs” NEWSLETTER 10 October 2013 PEACE IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST Welcome to Term Four everyone. And what a term it is going to be at St. Matthew’s! Our playgroup is commencing on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Parish hall at 9am. A Facebook page has been set up and soon will be welcoming members of the playgroup to facilitate communication. Stage 3 has commenced their Bring-Your-Own-Device programme. We have Kindergarten 2014 Orientation sessions and much more to come. October is of course the month of the year particularly devoted to the praying of the Rosary. I invite and urge our families to follow the lead of our classes and spend some time together to pray the Rosary. The Rosary is one of the traditional gifts of the Church which enables and supports a prayer-life of devotion and reflection. On Tuesday the staffs of all four Hawkesbury Catholic Schools gathered to pray and be nourished by the words of Fr. John Watkins – an old-boy of the district schools. How fitting that Fr. John should deliver his first Staff Development Day to his previous teachers who so significantly contributed to his own formation. Fr. John took us to new understandings of our theme of “Peace in the Light of Christ”. Thank you Fr. John and it was great to have you back! My best wishes to us all for the term ahead, Stephen Dowd Principal

There are around 7.4 million garages in Australia. What if every single one of them had a Garage Sale on the same day? That's the idea behind the Garage Sale Trail! Hawkesbury City Council is participating in the Garage Sale Trail, as a fantastic way of promoting recycling and sustainability. It’s a great way to bring together local residents and community groups while having a bit of fun. It is still not too late to get involved in an event that is all about the local community, while raising funds to support the great work St Matthew's Catholic Primary School does. If the 2012 Garage Sale Trail is anything to go by, there will be pop-up record stores, art shows, bike sales as well as your classic clothes and bric-a-brac sales. To see what happened last year or to find out more, head to garagesaletrail.com.au. The Garage Sale Trail can be used as an opportunity to bring your local community together, and host a combined Garage Sale on your School’s premises. For example, what if every member brought along three unwanted items to create a “mega Garage Sale”, with all proceeds raised going to St Matthew's Catholic Primary School? If you would like to hold a Garage Sale on Saturday 26 October, register your sale at garagesaletrail.com.au. For more information about how to organise a combined Garage Sale, contact Suzanne Stuart on 4560 4557 / [email protected]
