Page 3: ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH...2021/06/27  · word meaning ROCK--“It is on this ROCK that I will build my Church.” After the ASCENSION, Peter became “chief of the Apostles”,

Comments from Deacon Dale Brown Why did Jesus go all the way to Jairus's house and take his little daughter by the hand in order to bring her back to life? Why not just do it from a distance? The woman with the hemorrhage sensed that if she could only touch Jesus' cloak she would be healed. She had the same amount of faith before she touched the cloak as afterwards. So why didn't God cure her without her having to touch him? It is because God wants to be close to us; he wants to live in friendship

with us. And since we are human beings, not angels, that closeness, that friendship requires not only spiritual contact, but physical contact as well. This is especially the case because of our fallen human nature. As today's First Reading reminds us, we were not created to live in a world full of suffering and death. God created the world in an original harmony. And it was only when our first parents let themselves be deceived by the devil, stopped trusting in God, and disobeyed God's command that that harmony was shattered. Evil, death, and suffering flooded the world. And those things fill us with fear, dread, and anxiety. Since God is our perfect Father, he doesn't want us to face these challenges alone; he comes

right down beside us. "Do not be afraid; just have

faith," Jesus tells the synagogue official. This is the meaning of the Church's sacramental vision of faith: God doesn't have to operate through material elements like water, oil, bread, and wine, but he chooses to do so, because it better fits and resonates with our spiritual/material human nature. The sacraments, church buildings, vestments, liturgy, blessings, art, music...These are all places where we, as human beings composed of matter and spirit, are able to encounter God. They are instruments through which he enters the very flesh and blood of our daily lives - just as Jesus entered into the very flesh and blood of the Virgin's womb. Our God doesn't keep his distance; he walks by our side.

Prayer Requests

June 27, 2021 - 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Celebrate Life!Celebrate Life!Celebrate Life!Celebrate Life! Please pray for the women in our parish who are with child.

Prayers are a wonderful way to support a mother & her family.

Dear Father,

we ask you to protect the little babies who are being knit together in their mothers’ wombs. Comfort their mothers & fathers

during the time they are growing & develop-ing. Lord Jesus, give these smallest of per-sons the strength to come into this world, to

fully participate in your creation. Send your Holy Spirit to infuse their souls with love for you. After long, healthy, &

loving lives, bring them safely home to your heavenly kingdom.

Amen.
