Child Protection and Creating Safe Environments
Online Safety Tips for Parents & Kids:
The Diocese of Erie, along with all dioceses of the United States, has policies and procedures in place to address the national problem of child abuse and to aid in creating safe environments. The diocese is committed to on-going screen-ing and training of paid or volunteer persons who have regu-lar contact with our children and youth under the age of 18. It is committed to the yearly in-servicing and training of our children, youth and parents regarding touching-safety and safe environment. To see what the Diocese of Erie is doing to keep children and youth safe, check out http://www.eriercd.org/protectyouth.htm For more information, contact Mrs. Karen Streett, at the diocesan offices at 814-824-1195.

tion this year as it is on Monday, however there

Be sure to talk to your kids about cyber bullying. Four
out of ten kids have been bullied online and five out of
ten have said mean things about others online. Cyber
bullying continues to grow and the ultimate tragic result
can be suicide. Most kids who suffer or experience
cyberbullying do not tell their parents as they are afraid
they will lose their online privileges. To see what the
Diocese of Erie is doing to help create safe environ-
ments, check out :

A Family Perspective In today’s gospel a servant
WAITED for the master to return. Waiting is a normal
part of family life. We wait for a child’s birth, then for
small legs to catch up. Later we wait for teenagers to
return home safely. Finally we wait alone anticipating a
call or visit from an adult child. Waiting is sacred time,
for even in the waiting we are connected.

25th, 50th or 60th or more wedding anniversaries are

Mission appeal next weekend: Next weekend, August 13-14, we will have a guest
speaker at all of the masses offering the annual
mission appeal for the church’s many-faceted mis-
sionary activities throughout the world. Founda-
tion for Children in Need (FCN) is a Catholic lay
organization based in Arlington Heights, Illi-
nois. Marla Pellegrino, a sponsor and a mission
appeal speaker of FCN, is very happy to visit us
and share about their mission work in the interior
villages in the Southern part of India. FCN spon-
sors 2500 children and 30 elderly. They have
been responsible for building several schools,
boarding homes, a community health center and a
home for the elderly. They provide free medical
check-ups and medicine to thousands of needy
adults and children. We welcome Marla and en-
courage you to support FCN’s mission work gener-
ously. There will be a second collection taken up
next weekend. To know more about FCN’s mis-
sion work you are invited to visit their website:
