Dear Friends,
Today we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost, and the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, on all the members of the early Church, and on each of us when we receive the sacraments of Baptism and Con-firmation. HAPPY FEAST DAY TO US ALL!
The gifts and graces of the Spirit give us hope, prom-ise, and peace that comes from Jesus. We have our “Advocate who always pleads our cause.” And the Spirit prompts us to accomplish things we never imag-ined we could say or do.
So let us pray on this Pentecost that we may grow in love, and continue to proclaim the goodness of the Risen Lord and His message of Love.
Father Fred
LORD, SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT In today’s responsorial psalm the Church sings out: “Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.” All three readings describe how God has an-swered that prayer already. In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles and in the Gospel passage from John, we read of aston-ishing events that called cowering disciples to step out of hiding and proclaim news that would condemn them and change the world forever! In the second reading, Paul’s words reach out into the future to us: “we were all given to drink of one Spirit” (1 Corinthi-ans 12:13). It is our task to truly pray today’s psalm response. Let us together beg the Holy Spirit to renew the earth by renewing the Church, sending many more men and women to serve in its various ministries. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Holy Spirit, fan into flame the gifts I received in my Baptism and Confirmation.
I want to receive the fire of Your love as Your disciples did at Pentecost.
Come with wonder and awe, with wisdom, understanding, and counsel,
with courage and faith in You. Holy Spirit, may my actions witness
to Your presence in my life. Help me to see the ways my strengths
can serve others in their weakness. In all my interactions, I want to radiate
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness,
and self-control. Breathe new life into the world
through me. Amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, Come! As you descended upon Mary that the Word might become flesh, work in us through grace as you worked in her through nature and grace. Come! Consume in us whatever prevents us from being consumed in you. St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi
A Round of Golf Three men went out to play a round of golf: Moses, Jesus, and an old man. Moses tee’d off first, and the ball landed in the water. He parted the water and hit the ball in for a birdie. Jesus went next, and the ball landed in the water. He walked on the water and hit the ball in for a birdie. Lastly the old man tee’d off, but before the ball could hit the water, a fish jumped out and caught the ball in its mouth. Then an eagle swooped down and caught the fish. Lightning struck near the eagle, frightening it, causing it to drop the fish. When the fish hit the ground, it dropped the ball in for a perfect hole in one. Jesus and Moses turned to the old man, and Jesus said, “Dad, if you don't quit playing like that, we're not going to bring you anymore.”

You Don’t Have What It Takes — but You Will
Those of us in ministry love this saying: God doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called. We all know that sort of queasy feeling we get in the pit of our stomachs when it becomes clear what we’re supposed to do, in any situation. It’s that feeling of: Oh, no. Not me. Not now. I can’t. We’ve all got our list of reasons why not, don’t we? We do it for everything, from big life problems to small everyday choices. I’m not going to invite my neighbor to church because I don’t want to come across as pushy. I’m not going to make amends with my cousin because she’ll just walk all over me again. I’m not going to say a Rosary tonight because I’m tired and it’ll just stress me out. However, even if we all put our lists of “reasons why we can’t” together, I don’t think any of us have reasons quite as valid as the apostles. Their job was to convert the nations — and here they are, a bunch of fishermen who haven’t been out of Judea, who speak only their own languages. Were they supposed to preach the Gospel via a particularly compelling game of charades? But even that big, giant, stop-you-dead-in-your tracks Reason Why We Can’t was nothing, because God had a plan. He didn’t call a bunch of equipped men. He called them, and He equipped them. Cue the tongues of fire! God doesn’t call us to do His will because we have what it takes. He calls us because He’s ready to give us what it takes. Being a good steward is to answer the call of Christ knowing he will provide. — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS. ©LPi
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
