Friends, Father Alek and I are happy to be of service to you in “Grouping 210”. We have experienced warm welcomes at each of the churches where we have celebrated the Eucha-
rist in the past weeks. We are truly grateful for that and look forward to meeting each of you. It is my plan, to make possible the “relationships” that we need to develop and grow in the coming years, to assign a priest to a church for the weekend. This will allow you to see and speak with us and offer us the chance to spend quality time with you. I was never too fond of the idea of dis-missing the congregation and then running out the back door to race to the next Mass. The reception and support we are already experiencing with the many staff members across the parish boundaries are also of immense help. I am presently meeting with pastoral councils and staff members according to their specialties. Your patience with us during this time is ap-preciated. The endeavor that faces both the priests and you is big. We will work together to make the future bright, as we respect the significance of the past in each of the parishes. For St. Margaret of Scotland
Folks, it seems appropriate to address the process that went into creating the INTERIM Mass schedule, particu-larly for the weekend. When I first met with the former pastors, I was assured that there was no need for three Saturday evening Masses in the grouping. Because all three parishes offered a 4:00 Mass. I realized that there should remain earlier times available for convenience (that precipitated the present 4:00 & 4:30 offerings). Also at that time, and changing only two weeks ago, the priest chaplain assigned to this grouping was also assigned to Marian Manor. I was informed that he could not have a Saturday evening Mass because of his responsibility to provide one for those residing there. That left two priests for two Masses. The size of the church building, parking availability as well as the Mass counts from the previous year made Seton and SS. Simon & Jude the two preferred sites. We are watching the numbers each week and will, with the assistance of Pastoral Council, review the practi-cality of the INTERIM schedule and make changes as needed. Thanks for your understanding.
A Note about Offertory Envelopes Several people have expressed their con-cern about how to get offertory envelopes to St. Margaret of Scotland if they are not attending Mass here on a given weekend. You may place your offertory envelope in any Catholic church’s collection basket in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, and it will be mailed to SMOS. Alternatively, you may mail your offering to our church, drop your envelope through the mail slot in the Office doors at your convenience, or consider online giv-ing. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Parish Office at 412-921-0745.
REMINDER: Daylight Savings Time ends next Sunday, November 4, so turn your clocks back an hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.
BAPTISM CLASS Our next gathering will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. Please call Nancy Spinneweber, Coordinator of Religious Education at 412-921-1613 to register for the class.

CCD Classes are held on Tuesdays, beginning at 6:15 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m. If you have any questions regarding CCD or would like to be a vol-unteer in the program, please contact Nancy Spinneweber, Coordinator of Religious Education at 412-921-1613 or send an email to [email protected].
Children’s Liturgy will take place on the FIRST Sunday of each month during the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Children ages 3 and up are invited and will be escorted over to the Par-ish Office for an age-appropriate version of the First and Second Readings and the Gospel. We hope this will be an opportunity to bring the “Word of God” to our little ones in a very special way. Volunteers are always wel-come! If interested in helping with Children’s Liturgy, please contact Nancy Spinneweber, Coordinator of Reli-gious Education at 412-921-1613 or send an email to [email protected].
OPERATION SHOE BOX The St. Vincent de Paul Society is again sponsoring “Operation Shoe Box” for the residents at area homeless shelters. Collection boxes are located at the rear of the church and at the entrances to receive your donations through Nov. 21st. Thank you for your continued support.
Jesus Is Calling You – In today’s Gospel, Jesus calls for the blind man, Bartimaeus, that he might come to him and be healed. Saint Mark relates to us very vividly that Barti-maeus, “threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus,” and that his sight was restored because of his faith and trust in God. Of course, we see many instance in the Gospels of Jesus calling out to others. Often times he calls people to follow him, like those who would be his Apos-tles. At other times, like his encounter with Zacchaeus, he calls out so that he might stay with Zacchaeus and be of support in his life. In the Church, we most likely think of calling as one’s vocation, listening for what purpose God has created us to know, love and serve him. Priests speak of their vocation, or calling, to holy orders and married couples talk of being called to love each other with a sac-rificial, unbreakable and unconditional love. And within the call of our vocation, the Lord time and again calls out to us to invite us to share our gifts and abilities in a varie-ty of ways for the good of others and of the Church. As our On Mission for The Church Alive! journey continues forward we are all invited to listen for the Lord calling us by name and seeking new and vibrant ways to respond in faith and generosity. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.
